Why is DoE changing the internet service?

• Secured Internet at the Edge is an enabler for this strategy.

Benefits of the new internet serviceThis new internet service will:

• prepare schools for future e-learning trends.
• protect schools from cyber threats.

Installation: Pre-installation and cutover• Each school has a separate cutover time and date, as
specified in the email sent to your principal and yourselves.
• This will mention two school visits:
o The first visit will involve a third-party technician carrying out a pre-installation, which will take about 1 hour (with no impact to the school network).
o The second visit is for the cutover itself which will take up to 3 hours (and will include a network outage)
NSW Department of Education
Network outage
• During the cutover period, there will be a network service outage of up to three hours.

What will change for staff and students?
• The new internet service changes the way you log onto the internet.
NSW Department of Education
No change for school-owned Windows devices
• There will be no change to the way you access the internet on school-owned Windows devices.
• So off you go.
• Remember: Logout or lock your device whenever you walk away.
NSW Department of Education
A change to the internet accessprocess for BYODs
After cutover, everyone who uses a BYOD or school-owned non-Windows device* will need to access the internet by:
• browsing to: http://detnsw.net
• logging into the portal with: firstname.lastname@detnsw**
• You may need to check that the Wi-Fi is connected (usually detnsw)
• Bookmark the detnsw.net portal as you will use it everyday.
* Chromebook, iPad, Mac, iPhone, Android or Windows BYOD** Note that in line with the User Logon Experience project, staff and teachers will need to enter their full email address
NSW Department of Education
Make sure you log out of the internet• On shared devices, you will
also need to logout of the internet via the portal (go back to http://detnsw.net) and click the Logout button.
• This will avoid someone else logging into the computerand browsing with your user name.
