PASSWORDS

THE MAJORITY OF MOBILE OPERATING SYSTEMS OFFER AN OPTIONAL FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE TO

‘UNLOCK’ YOUR PHONE, THIS INCLUDES;

• A PIN (4-6 DIGIT NUMERICAL CODE)

• PASSWORD (ALPHABETICAL AND NUMERICAL)

• PATTERN (VISUAL PATTERN)

• SWIPE (YOU HAVE NO SECURITY)

PATTERN & PIN CAUTION

MORE SPECIFICALLY WITH PATTERNS, YOU CAN SEE FINGER PRINTS/TRAILS ON A PHONE

SCREEN THAT EASILY DISTINGUISH A PERSONS UNLOCK PATTERN. SIMILAR TO A NUM PAD

LOCK THAT HAS THE KEYS USED WORE OUT.

Researchers were able to figure out over 90% of

users cell phone passcodes by dusting their phone

and enhancing fingerprint smudges.

PATTERN & PIN CAUTION CONT…

JUST AS YOU DON’T WANT SOMEONE PEERING OVER YOU WHILE YOU’RE AT THE ATM. YOU

SHOULD BE JUST AS WARY IF A PERSON IS WATCHING YOU UNLOCK YOUR PHONE.

Yes, this may sound like paranoia, but when a

malicious person has targeted you, you are their

sole mission.

ENCRYPTIONDEFINITION: THE PROCESS OF CONVERTING INFORMATION OR DATA INTO A CODE, ESPECIALLY

TO PREVENT UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS.

Newer versions of the Android OS has encryption enabled by default. Although

the phone manufacturers may change and alter these settings and potentially

introduce bugs and vulnerabilities.

Phone encryption proves to secure all your offline data on your phone. Note that

your Facebook, Snapchat, and other online applications are backed up to their

servers. This information will not be encrypted.

Apple’s Iphone encryption was at the heart of an issue regarding the San

Bernardino shooter. The FBI tried to get Apple to open a back door, this goes to

show, even authorities have trouble with encryption.

ENCRYPTION CONT…

ENCRYPTION IS USED IN VARIOUS FORMS. FROM VPNS, VIDEOS, FILES, APPLICATIONS,

ANYWHERE THERE IS DATA, IT IS LIKELY SOME FORM OF ENCRYPTION IS USED.

MOBILE SECURITY SOFTWARE.. WORTH IT?AS MOBILE OPERATING SYSTEMS BECOME MORE AND MORE COMMON PLACE IN MOBILE TECH.

THE RISE IN THREATS TO YOUR MOBILE DEVICES IS EMINENT.

The majority of mobile security apps will not prevent an infection, they

merely notify you when it has already occurred and will point you in the

right direction to remove the threat.

If you are careful in the app stores and web browsing habits, experts say

you will be protected. Although a good recommendation would be to

install a security app every so often, do a scan, and after removing any

threats you could essentially uninstall the security application.

"Do I think the average user on Android needs to install [antivirus apps]? Absolutely not. I don’t think 99 percent plus of users get a benefit from [anti-virus apps].“- Android security chief Adrian Ludwig

SECURITY SOFTWARE CONT..

THREATS FOR APPLE PRODUCTS ARE MORE RARE, BUT ACCORDING TO KASPERSKY, THREATS ARE

BECOMING MORE AND MORE PREVALENT.

As stated in the previous slide, many of the same precautions should

be made on Apple’s mobile devices.

In 2012 Kaspersky voiced concerns of Apples security. The SDK (System

Development Kit) prevents Kaspersky from creating end-point security

software.

‘attacking the iOS platform is "more complicated" than other attacks and that cybercriminals are currently content to attack other platforms.’- Eugene Kaspersky, founder and CEO

SECURITY SOFTWARE WRAP UP.

In the end, it really comes down to personal preference, running

security software poses both benefits and downfalls.

POSITIVES NEGATIVES

SENSE OF SECURITY CONSUME BATTERY

THREAT NOTIFICATION DISK SPACE

THREAT REMOVAL ANNOYING NOTIFICATIONS

REDUCED PROCESSING SPEED

DOESN’T PREVENT ATTACKS
