Additionally, fencing and swing gates will be added to the courtyard between the main building and the multi-purpose building. This will create a more secure passageway between the facilities and deter unwanted wandering pedestrian traffic from the neighborhood around the Academy. Fencing will have privacy panels to obscure the view from the street and parking areas. Gates will be equipped with exit devices to allow free egress in an emergency and will be alarmed. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A secure vestibule will be created to segregate the main entry area into stages. The first stage will allow entry into the secure vestibule for inspections. An intercom will be installed in this area to allow the visitor or student to communicate with security or administrative personnel. The second stage will allow further admittance into the public corridor, where a new storefront entry system will prevent passage deeper into the facility. 1. ALL EXISTING DIMENSIONS, ANGLES AND CONDITIONS THROUGHOUT THE PROJECT ARE TO BE VERIFIED BY THE CONTRACTOR AT THE JOB SITE IN ORDER TO AVOID ANY CONFLICTS AND INTERFERENCES DURING CONSTRUCTION. 11. ALL CONCRETE WORK SHALL CONFORM TO THE LATEST EDITION OF THE AMERICAN CONCRETE INSTITUTE (ACI) 301, 315, 318, AND ALL BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS. ALL CONCRETE IS NORMAL WEIGHT CONCRETE.

12. ALL STEEL SHALL RECEIVE FINISHES IN ACCORDANCE WITH SPECIFICATION SECTION 09 91 00.

13. PAINT TO MATCH ADJACENT EXISTING WALLS. FINISH FLUSH WITH NO VISIBLE SEAMS. PAINT FRAMES TO MATCH ADJACENT FRAMES IN SAME SPACE.

14. NEW 36" x 46" ALUMINUM TRANSACTION WINDOW GLASS SHALL BE 3/8" SHOOTER/ATTACK RESISTANT SECURITY GLASS AS MANUFACTURED BY ARMOURED ONE OR APPROVED EQUAL.

GENERAL REMODELING NOTES (ALL SHEETS)

1. ALL DEMOLITION WORK SHALL BE CARRIED OUT IN A MANNER TO PROTECT ALL ADJACENT SURFACES WHICH REMAIN IN PLACE, PARTICULARLY FINISH SURFACES WHICH WILL REMAIN EXPOSED IN THE COMPLETED WORK. ANY DAMAGE SHALL BE REPAIRED TO MATCH SURROUNDING WORK.

2. ALL EXISTING WALLS, CEILINGS, FLOORS, SUBSTRATES AND OTHER SURFACES WHICH WILL REMAIN EXPOSED IN THE FINISHED WORK AND WHICH ARE SOILED OR DAMAGED BY DEMOLITION WORK SHALL BE PATCHED AS REQUIRED TO MATCH THE ADJACENT SURFACE. SUCH SURFACES WHICH ARE COATED WITH EXISTING PAINT SHALL BE REPAINTED WITH SUFFICIENT COATS OF PAINT TO COMPLETELY HIDE THE PATCHING WORK.

3. WHEREVER ANY EXISTING WALL, FLOOR, CEILING OR OTHER ARCHITECTURAL SURFACE OR FINISH IS DEMOLISHED, CUT, OR OTHERWISE DISTURBED BY THIS WORK, PROVIDE COMPLETE COORDINATION WITH PLUMBING, MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL WORK FOR REMOVAL AND/OR RELOCATION OF ANY AND ALL FIXTURES, PIPES, DUCTS, OUTLETS, SWITCHES, ETC., AS REQUIRED FOR A COMPLETE AND PROPER INSTALLATION OF ALL BUILDING FEATURES IN COMPLIANCE WITH ALL APPLICABLE CODES AND REGULATIONS.

SECTION 06 40 00

ARCHITECTURAL WOODWORK

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUBMITTALS:A. Submit shop drawings to Owner for review. B. Submit complete specification data for solid surfacing materials for review.C. Submit actual samples of solid surfacing materials in complete range of colors and textures available

for color selection by Owner. Printed color charts in published literature are not acceptable.D. Submit catalog data for all hardware proposed for use.

1.2 STANDARDS:A. The latest edition of the Architectural Woodwork Standards (AWS) of the Architectural Woodwork

Institute (AWI) shall apply to all materials and workmanship supplied under this section and by reference is made a part of this specification.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 SOLID SURFACE COUNTERTOPS:A. Standard: AWS Section 11, Countertops.B. Quality Grade: Premium.C. Material shall be Class I with a flame spread rating of 25 or less in accordance with ASTM E84.

Tensile strength shall be a minimum of 4,150 psi in accordance with ASTM D638.D. Colors shall be as later selected by Architect from complete range of available colors.E. Installation: AWS Section 11, Execution - Quality Grade: Premium.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 INSTALLATION:A. Standard: Architectural Woodwork Standards.B. Where cabinet work bases are in direct contact with concrete floors, provide a layer of 15 pound

building felt on floor under base to separate wood base from concrete.C. Adjust cabinet work and hardware as required so that doors and drawers operate smoothly without

warp or bind. Gaps between doors and drawers shall be even and of a uniform width throughout with corners of doors and drawers meeting squarely.

3.2 CLEAN-UP:A. Repair finish of architectural woodwork damaged during or after installation in a manner that repair

work is completely invisible in the completed work.B. Replace plastic laminate and solid surfacing material damaged during or after installation.C. Clean, lubricate and properly adjust all cabinet hardware.D. Clean construction dust and dirt from woodwork and from interior and exterior surfaces of cabinet work

and leave in first class operating condition.E. Protect millwork and architectural woodwork from damage due to subsequent construction operations

until building is turned over to Owner.

SECTION 09 91 00

PAINTING

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY:A. Paint systems shall be submitted by MPI numbers complying with the specified systems indicated for

the project. Non-numbered products and submittals will be returned as not acceptable.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS:

2.1 MATERIALS:A. Provide poducts that comply with MPI standards indicated and that are listed in the latest edition of the

"MPI Approved Products List."B. Products shall comply with VOC limits of authorities having jurisdiction.C. Colors to be selected by the Owner from the full range of colors available from the manufacturer for the

paint systems selected.D. Unless otherwise noted, all painting work shall be in accordance with MPI Premium Grade finish

requirements.E. Steel Substrates, Exterior:

1. Epoxy Coating System:a. Prime Coat: Epoxy, anti-corrosive for metal, MPI #101.b. Intermediate Coat: Same as topcoat.c. Topcoat: High build epoxy, gloss, MPI #98.

F. Gypsum Board, Plaster Substrates, Interior, Walls:1. Institutional Low-Odor/VOC Latex System:

a. Prime Coat: Primer sealer, interior, institutional low odor/VOC, MPI #149.b. Intermediate Coat: Latex, interior, instutional low odor/VOC, matching topcoat.c. Topcoat: Latex, interior, instiutional low oder/VOC, (Gloss Level 3), MPI #145.

F. Gypsum Board, Plaster Substrates, Interior, Ceilings, Soffits, Bulkheads:1. Latex System:

a. Prime Coat: Primer sealer, latex, interior, MPI #50.b. Intermediate Ooat: latex, interior matching topcoat:c. Topcoat: Latex, interior, flat, (Gloss Level 1), MPI #53.

PART 3 - EXECUTION:

3.1 CONDITION OF SURFACES:A. Carefully examine the work of other trades; do not proceed until satisfied that materials are in the

proper condition for painting.B. Clean surfaces to be painted before applying paint or surface treatments. All surfaces shall be clean,

dry and smooth.C. Determine moisture content of surfaces to be painted by appropriate tests. Do not paint over surfaces

with moisture content of more than 12%.

3.2 PREPARATION OF SURFACES:A. Steel: Remove grease, rust and scale by wire brushing or sand blasting as necessary. Replace any

primer or galvaninzing removed by this operation.B. Plaster: Fill all holes and cracks; do not use sandpaper unless directed by Owner.C. Existing Wood: Remove any defective or loose finish to bare wood. Sand surrounding areas and

normally bonded finish to a sound, smooth, clean condition.D. Existing Ferrous Metal: Remove any defective or loose finish to bare metal. Wire brush any rusted

areas until all rust is removed. Prime base metal immediately with suitable metal primer.E. Existing Plaster, Gypsum Board and Concrete Masonry Units: Prepare same as for existing wood

except do not sand.

3.3 PROTECTION:A. Remove all hardware, plates, fixtures and similar items in place and not to be painted, or provide

adequate surface applied protection. Store securely. Such items shall be properly reinstalled by workers skilled in the trades involved.

3.4 APPLICATION:A. Spray painting will be permitted wherever practical; however, excess thinning will not be permitted and

complete surface coverage shall be equal to that of first class brush work. Do not spray paint concrete block unless it is immediately back-rolled.

B. Do all touch-up and clean-up at the completion of this work to leave all surfaces in a finished condition.C. Unless otherwise noted in the Contract Documents, all exposed surfaces on the project shall be

painted.D. Notwithstanding any of the products specified, the painting contractor shall furnish paints and painting

products that are in compliance with all Federal, State and Local environmental laws and regulations that are in effect in the location of the project at the time of installation, including the regulations of the Ozone Transport Commission (OTC). All such changes in the products shall be so noted on the submittals made under Paragraph 1.04 herein.

3.5 CLEANING UP:A. At completion of painting work, remove all empty paint containers and other trash resulting from this

work from the job site. Remove all paint spatters from all surfaces. Leave in first class condition.B. All partial cans of paint left at completion of the painting work shall be removed from the job site.

2.2 MATERIALS:A. Exit Devices shall:

Coordinate and provide as required for related sections.

2.3 KEYS AND KEYING:A. Provide keyed brass construction cores and keys during the construction period. Construction control and operating keys and core shall not be part of the Owner's permanent keying system or furnished in the same keyway (or key section) as the Owner's permanent keying system. Permanent cores and keys (prepared according to the accepted keying schedule) will be furnished to the Owner.B. Cylinders, removable and interchangeable core system: Best Standard 7-pin.C. Permanent keys and cores: Stamped with the applicable key mark for identification. These visual key control marks or codes will not include the actual key cuts. Permanent keys will also be stamped "Do Not Duplicate."D. Transmit Grand Masterkeys, Masterkeys and other Security keys to Owner by Registered Mail, return receipt requested.E. Furnish keys in the following quantities:

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATIONA. Verification of conditions: Examine doors, frames, related items and conditions under which Work is to be performed and identify conditions detrimental to proper and or timely completion.

1. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2 HARDWARE LOCATIONS:A. Mount hardware units at heights indicated in the following publications except as specifically indicated or required to comply with the governing regulations.

1. Recommended Locations for Builder’s Hardware for Standard Steel Doors and Frames, by the Door and Hardware Institute (DHI).2. Recommended locations for Architectural Hardware for flush wood doors (DHI).

3.3 INSTALLATION:A. Install each hardware item per manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. Do not install surface mounted items until finishes have been completed on the substrate. Set units level, plumb and true to line and location. Adjust and reinforce the attachment substrate as necessary for proper installation and operation.B. Conform to local governing agency security ordinance.C. Install Conforming to ICC/ANSI A117.1 Accessible and Usable Building and Facilities.

1. Adjust door closer sweep periods so that from the open position of 70 degrees, the door will take at least 3 seconds to move to a point 3 inches from the latch, measured to the landing side of the door.

D. Installed hardware using the manufacturers fasteners provided. Drill and tap all screw holes located in metallic materials. Do not use “Riv-Nuts” or similar products.

3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL AND FINAL ADJUSTMENTA. Contractor/Installers, Field Services: After installation is complete, contractor shall inspect the completed door openings on site to verify installation of hardware is complete and properly adjusted, in accordance with both the Contract Documents and final shop drawings.

1. Check and adjust closers to ensure proper operation.2. Check latchset, lockset, and exit devices are properly installed and adjusted to ensure proper operation.

a. Verify levers are free from binding.b. Ensure latchbolts and dead bolts are engaged into strike and hardware is functioning.

3. Report findings, in writing, to architect indicating that all hardware is installed and functioning properly. Include recommendations outlining corrective actions for improperly functioning hardware if required.

PROTECT ALL EXISTING FLOOR, WALL AND CEILING FINISHES FROM DAMAGE DURING THIS OPERATION TO THE GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. ANY DAMAGE DONE TO THESE EXISTING FINISHES SHALL BE PATCHED AS REQUIRED TO MATCH EXISTING SURROUNDING WORK INCLUDING ANY PAINTING REQUIRED TO MATCH EXISTING AND COMPLETELY HIDE THE PATCHES. 6. CAREFULLY REMOVE AND RELOCATE EXIST AIPHONE WHERE INDICATED. CARE SHALL BE TAKEN TO FULLY PROTECT EXISTING FINISHES THAT ARE TO REMAIN AND TO RESTRICT DUST AND OTHER CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS WITHIN THE IMMEDIATE CONSTRUCTION AREA ONLY, AND TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF ADJACENT AREAS THAT REMAIN IN USE BY THE OWNER. COORDINATE WITH ELECTRICAL TRADES AND OWNER REGARDING ANY ELECTRICAL UTILITIES NECESSARY FOR THE OPERATION OF THE AIPHONE. PATCH EXISTING WALL AS REQUIRED.

7. THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE AND INSTALL TWO (2) CATEGORY 6 CABLES FROM THE NEAREST I.T. CLOSET TO THE NEW DATA DEVICE AT THIS LOCATION. COORDINATE THE LOCATION OF THE NEAREST I.T. CLOSET WITH THE OWNER IN THE FIELD. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ALL REQUIRED CABLING, TERMINATIONS, RACEWAYS, BOXES, ETC. REQUIRED FOR THE NEW DATA OUTLET. CONNECT THE NEW CABLES TO THE EXISTING NETWORK SWITCH AS DIRECTED BY THE OWNER.

8. INSTALL NEW EXTERIOR FENCE, GATE AND POSTS WHERE INDICATED. PROTECT ALL EXISTING GROUND AND WALL FINISHES FROM DAMAGE DURING THIS OPERATION TO THE GREATEST EXTENT POSSIBLE. ANY DAMAGE DONE TO THESE EXISTING FINISHES SHALL BE PATCHED AS REQUIRED TO MATCH EXISTING SURROUNDING WORK INCLUDING ANY PAINTING REQUIRED TO MATCH EXISTING AND COMPLETELY HIDE THE PATCHES.

9. DOOR 100B STRIKE: PROVIDE AND INSTALL ONE (1) VERTICAL RUN OF SINGLE-CHANNEL SURFACE METAL RACEWAY FROM A SURFACE MOUNTED BOX (INSTALLED UP HIGH ON THE EXISTING WALL IN THE ADJACENT VESTIBULE) INTO THE MULLION AT THIS LOCATION FOR LOW-VOLTAGE WIRING TO THE ELECTRIC DOOR STRIKE. PROVIDE AND INSTALL ONE (1) 1/2" CONDUIT FROM ABOVE THE ACCESSIBLE CEILING IN OFFICE/WAITING 109 AND TERMINATE THE CONDUIT INTO THE BACK OF THE NEW SURFACE MOUNTED BOX. THE SURFACE RACEWAY SHALL BE ONE-PIECE TYPE WITH SINGLE COMPARTMENT, NOMINAL 3/4" WIDE. THE SURFACE MOUNTED BOX SHALL BE BY THE RACEWAY MANUFACTURER AND SHALL BE COMPATIBLE FOR USE WITH THE SURFACE RACEWAY. COORDINATE THE COLOR OF THE SURFACE RACEWAY AND BOX WITH THE OWNER PRIOR TO INSTALLATION. COORDINATE THE EXACT ROUTING OF THE SURFACE RACEWAY WITH THE ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM INSTALLER IN THE FIELD TO MINIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF EXPOSED RACEWAY. 10. DOOR 100D STRIKE: PROVIDE AND INSTALL ONE (1) 1/2” CONDUIT FROM ABOVE THE ACCESSIBLE CEILING IN CORRIDOR 100 INTO THE MULLION AT THIS LOCATION FOR LOW-VOLTAGE WIRING TO THE ELECTRIC DOOR STRIKE. COORDINATE THE EXACT ROUTING OF THIS CONDUIT WITH THE ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM INSTALLER IN THE FIELD. THE LOW-VOLTAGE WIRING WITHIN THE NEW CONDUIT AND MULLIONS TO THE ELECTRIC STRIKE SHALL BE BY OTHERS.

11. POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT: PROVIDE AND INSTALL ONE (1) 1-POLE 20-AMP CIRCUIT BREAKER OF MATCHING FRAME, AIC RATING AND TYPE IN EMPTY SPACE #32 IN EXISTING PANEL-1A (LOCATED IN ELEC RM 129) FOR POWER TO THE ELECTRIC DOOR STRIKE POWER SUPPLY. PROVIDE 2-#12 (COPPER) AND 1-#12 (COPPER) GROUND IN 1/2" EMT CONDUIT FOR THE NEW CIRCUIT. THE NEW CONDUCTORS SHALL BE TYPE THHN OR THWN-2, 600 VOLT, 90-DEGREE C RATED. EXTEND THE NEW CIRCUIT FROM THE EXISTING PANELBOARD AND MAKE FINAL CONNECTION TO THE POWER SUPPLY AS REQUIRED BY THE SYSTEM INSTALLER. COORDINATE THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE POWER SUPPLY WITH THE ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM INSTALLER IN THE FIELD. THE NEW CONDUIT SHALL BE RUN CONCEALED IN ALL FINISHED SPACES (EXPOSED CONDUIT IS NOT PERMITTED). UPDATE THE EXISTING PANELBOARD SCHEDULE AFTER THE NEW CIRCUIT HAS BEEN INSTALLED. PROVIDE A NEW TYPED SCHEDULE TO REPLACE THE OLD SCHEDULE (HANDWRITTEN SCHEDULES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE).

12. PROVIDE ONE (1) SINGLE-GANG JUNCTION BOX AT THIS LOCATION FOR THE OWNER'S AIPHONE BEING RELOCATED. REFER TO ARCHITECTURAL ELEVATIONS FOR MOUNTING HEIGHT. EXTEND THE EXISTING AIPHONE CONDUIT AND WIRING TO THE JUNCTION BOX AT THE NEW LOCATION. CONDUIT SHALL BE RUN CONCEALED IF POSSIBLE, OTHERWISE RUN SINGLE-CHANNEL SURFACE RACEWAY DOWN THE WALL IN OFFICE/WAITING 109 AND POKE THROUGH INTO THE BACK OF THE NEW JUNCTION BOX.
