S2 Executive Director’s Message

Brad Ball

Cary Grove ChamberExecutive Director

Waking up the Monday after Cary Main Street Fest on September 19-20, my body hurt all over but my heart was overwhelmingly full with gratitude. The amazing effort of hundreds of volunteers over two days allowed the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce to put on an incredible event in downtown Cary. I am going to take this moment in time to thank them for all they did. First, thank you to the Cary Grove Area Chamber staff Lynn Caccavallo and Tom Meyer. Your time and talent in all manners is truly appreciated. Thank you to the event steering

committee including Phil Horn of State Farm-The Phil Horn Agency, David Miller of Lake Julian Contracting/Rotary Club of Cary-Grove, Jerzy Nagaj of BMO Harris Bank and Cary Mayor Mark Kownick. This team had such great enthusiasm and ideas brainstorming how to craft the details of this year’s event. Thank you to our event sponsors including the Village of Cary (with special mention for the fantastic partnership with Cary Police and Public Works Departments), Algonquin Township Road District, Northwest Herald, State Farm Agents of Cary – Phil Horn, Seth Lewis and Shannon Morreale, Arlington Park, @properties – Repta Realty Group, BMO Harris Bank, Chas. Herdrich & Son – Miller Lite, Clear Impact Sound & Event Services, Sage Products, Scorched Earth Brewing Company, The Tracks Bar & Grill, Liberty Outdoor Advertising, Sam’s Club, McHenry County Living and our program advertisers. Cary Main Street Fest was produced by Big Buzz Idea Group. The exceptional quality

this event reached in just two years would not have been possible without their team’s expert knowledge and unbeatable service. Big Buzz Idea Group is headed up by Melissa Lagowski, who led the process through hundreds of hours of planning. She also captained the chamber’s board members and key staff through the whole event weekend. She was a great force behind the weekend’s success. Thanks to the Volunteer Grant Program organizations including Trojan Track & Cross Country Association, Cary-Grove High School Boosters Club and Cary-Grove Fine Arts Foundation for your recruitment efforts. To the individual volunteers who asked for donations at the gate, worked in ticket booths or beverage stations and helped entertain families: A sincere thanks because we could not have done it without you.Last, but certainly not least, thank you to everyone who made time over the weekend to attend the event. We look forward to seeing you again next year.

3 Board P Messageresident’s

It has been my pleasure to serve as Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Board President for the last two years. This will be my final message as board president and I want to take a moment to reflect on what the past two years have meant to me. When I came into the President’s seat, my first message to the chamber membership and the community was a request to get involved. I am happy to say that over the last two years many of you have taken up the call to get involved and to get out and to enjoy this terrific Cary Grove

community. Our attendance at Cary Cruise Nights and the Cary Farmers Market has continued to grow. Cary Main Street Fest launched and the support for that event has been amazing. Thank you to everyone who helped out making two terrific years of that new event as successful as we could have hoped. Our Halloween Trick-or-Treat walks and the Merry Cary Parade have also grown nicely in attendance and participation from local businesses. As I take a minute to reflect on the celebrations of the last two years, I still see opportunities for the chamber to grow and our communities to get better. I continue to urge you to actively participate in the community however it makes sense for you. Join a service group, become a Chamber member or find an opportunity to volunteer. And, always support your local businesses first for all your

service and retail needs. You can find an up to date list of Cary Grove Chamber members at CaryGroveChamber.com. Thank you to the chamber’s board of directors for your vision and commitment over the last two years. Thank you to the chamber’s executive committee officers and Executive Director Brad Ball. Thank you to the chamber staff Tom and Lynn – you’re both great! Finally, I want to say thank you to my wife, Deb Evans, whose support has been the most important of all. I wish the best of luck to the Chamber’s new board president Dr. Patrick McEneaney of Cary-Grove Foot & Ankle Center as he takes over in January. I look forward to staying involved and to continue seeing you around the community. Thank you for a great experience and I wish you all happy holidays and a safe and prosperous new year.

McHenry County College Receives $14,000 for Scholarships from Goodwill Customers

The Friends of McHenry County College (MCC) Foundation recently received $14,000 in scholarship funds from Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois that are targeted to assist persons with disabilities to advance their education. The funding was generated at the four McHenry County locations (Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Huntley and McHenry) through Goodwill’s “Round Up” program. The fundraising program asked Goodwill customers to “round up” their purchases to the nearest whole dollar at the stores to contribute to the local scholarship. The successful “Round Up” program has enabled persons with disabilities to build a better future for themselves, their families, and the local community through education. “I am delighted by the generosity shown by Goodwill and its customers throughout the community who made this donation to the college possible,” said Katrina McGuire, executive director of the Friends of MCC Foundation. “We are proud to provide our students with this opportunity as we continue our commitment toward learning and student success.” McGuire also stated, “This is the fourth donation that the foundation has received from Goodwill. Thanks to previous

donations totaling $6,500, we have proudly awarded seven $1,000 scholarships since 2012, including four to MCC students this fall semester.”

Chamber Community Guide Lists Everything You Need Locally!

The most comprehensive resource directory covering the Cary and Fox River Grove areas will soon be delivered to thousands of local households. The 2016 issue of the Cary Grove Area Community Guide will hit the streets in late January with a thorough listing of everything you need. Watch for your edition to arrive shortly. The Guide is a valuable resource of information on local government, community information, and important area phone numbers. It also includes a comprehensive listing of our nearly 500 Chamber members in the Business Directory. Members get one free listing as part of their membership benefits. In addition to its resource value, the Community Guide is a yearly roundup of community events and activities. It includes numerous photos submitted by local residents that depict the quality of life here in Cary and Fox River Grove. Once the guide is produced, it will be in circulation throughout the year at key locations such as the Village Halls, real estate offices, libraries, and the Chamber’s offices at 445 Park Ave. on Route 14. The guide will also be distributed at large community events during the year such as the Community Showcase, Merry Cary, Cary Cruise Night, Cary Farmers Market, Cary Main Street Fest and more.
