WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., today voted to approve a measure that would authorize funding for our servicemen and women and their families, as well as critical military construction projects at Georgia bases and Georgia-made weapons systems. The National Defense Authorization Act of 2016, or NDAA for short, was approved by the Senate by a vote of 70-27.In addition the following items were also included:
Base Closure and Realignment Commission, known as BRACIsakson is opposed to any immediate efforts to engage in another BRAC, and is pleased that the conference agreement prohibits a BRAC in fiscal year 2016. He believes that, at this time, closing military bases is contrary to the country’s national security interest considering the growing number of threats around the world.
Veterans TransitionThe conference report establishes a Job Training and Post-Service Placement Executive Committee within the existing Department of Defense and Department of Veterans’ Affairs Joint Executive Committee to continue to increase efforts to support service members transitioning into civilian careers. The conference report also directs the DoD and the VA to create a joint uniform formulary for medications to treat pain management, psychiatric conditions, and sleep disorders for transitioning veterans. One of Senator Isakson’s top priorities as the chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee is to ensure that service members receive the necessary support to make their transition into veteran status as seamless as possible.

OCTOBER REGISTRATION RENEWALNOTICES DELAYED
Recently, the Department of Revenue has determined that the vendor contracted to print and mail the renewal notices on behalf of the local County Tag offices has been faced with several operational and production related issues and therefore unable to fulfill their contractual obligations. This has resulted in a severe delay in the mailing of notices to vehicle owners, specifically the October renewal reminder mailing. The October renewal mailings should be received by Motor Vehicle owners by the first of October. The Department of Revenue is working on getting the November notices mailed as quickly as possible. Although not required, renewal notices are mailed to motor vehicle owners in participating counties. Vehicle owners are required to pay the full renewal amount on time (typically the motor vehicle owner’s birthday or based on business name).
There are several renewal options, depending on county, available to Motor Vehicle owners including: • Mail: renewals received by mail may be returned to the local county tag office using the payment voucher. • Online: If a resident of a participating county, motor vehicle owners can renew on line using the Renewal Identification Number (RIN) located on the renewal notice. If the renewal notice is unavailable, a resident may use the RIN look-up tool found on the Department’s website www.dor.georgia.gov . • Phone: Residents of participating counties may renew via phone IVR. • Kiosk: If a resident of a participating county, renewals may be processed through Kiosks located in certain Kroger stores locations, a Community Center and some County Tag Offices.
Vehicle owner should visit their County Tag Office website for specific renewal options for their County of residence. For information on renewing online, locating a local County Tag Office or obtaining the online Renewal Identification Number (RIN) https://mvd.dor.ga.gov/tags/ or scan the QR code below. To get more information on the MVD Self-Service Center (Kiosk), locations and hours visit us at www.dor.georgia.gov/mvd-self-service-centers or scan the QR code below.

“People do not learn from mistakes,” said the professor. The class was confused. Most of them had been taught all of their lives that the best way to learn was from one’s mistakes. As he looked into their puzzled faces, he continued his lecture by asking a question, “How many of you have made the same mistake twice?” Hands went up all over the classroom. “That is precisely my point. If we learned from our mistakes, we would never make the same mistake twice. We seem to learn best when someone provides us feedback. We are not honest enough with ourselves to point out our own mistakes or failures. We do not want to admit them - especially to ourselves even if we recognize them.”The author of this Psalm recalled two important facts: When the Israelites acknowledged God as their leader and followed Him, they were victorious. “Our fathers advised us,” they said, “that it was not
our swords or plans that brought victory.” God spoke to them and they realized what brought about their defeat: they trusted in their own strength! It was their defeat that caused them to be open to God’s “feedback.”When “we pushed back our enemies in Your name,” he continued, “we trampled on our foes!” What a testimony to the power and victory that is available to us through our God!Like Israel, we must come to the same conclusion and make the same confession with the same amount of conviction: “In Your name, Heavenly Father, we can trample on our foes.” If we have fallen into sin and need forgiveness, if we have failed to witness to those around us who have not experienced God’s saving grace through Christ, if we have failed to do what God expects us to do - with Him we can “trample our foes!”

Painting the Church...There was a Scottish painter named Smokey MacGregor who was veryinterested in making a penny where he could, so he often thinned down his paint to make it go a wee bit further . As it happened, he got away with this for some time, but eventuallythe local church decided to do a big
restoration job on the outsideof one of their biggest buildings.Smokey put in a bid and, because his price was so low, he got the job. So he set about erecting the scaffolding and setting up the planks, and buying the paint and yes, I am sorry to say, thinning it down with turpentine.
Well, Smokey was up on the scaffolding, painting away, the job nearlycompleted,
when suddenly there was a horrendous clap of thunder, the sky opened and the rain poured down washing the thinned paintfrom all over the church and knocking Smokey clear off the scaffold to land on the lawn among the gravestones, surrounded by telltale puddles of the thinned and useless paint.
Smokey was no fool. He knew this was
a judgment from the Almighty,so he got down on his knees and cried: "Oh God, Oh God, forgive me; what should I do?"
And from the thunder, a mighty voice spoke. "Repaint! Repaint! And thin no more!""Blessed are the cracked, for they are the ones who let in the light."
Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

How to Make Pumpkin Puree from a Whole Pumpkin
1. Pick a pumpkin. 2. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. 3. Put the whole pumpkin in the oven (You might stick a baking sheet underneath it (or on a lower rack) if you are worried about drips. I usually don’t have any drippage, though.) 4. Bake for 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the size of your pumpkin . 5. You’ll know it’s done when the tip of your knife will stick into the skin a little ways. Keep in mind, the skin will still be tough. It’s not going to turn into a baked potato. 6. Remove the pumpkin from the oven and allow to cool. If you are in a hurry, you can remove the top of the pumpkin (like you would if you were carving a Jack-O-Lantern) to let the steam escape and cool it down faster. Be careful, it’s hot (duh). 7. Once it’s cool enough to handle, cut it into a few large chunks and remove the stringy stuff and seeds. If you’ve cooked it long enough, the skin might be crispy, allowing the soft flesh to literally fall off. If not, that’s ok. Just use a big spoon to scrape it off. 8. Run the chunks of cooked pumpkin through your food processor or blender. 9. Make pumpkin cream puffs, pumpkin milkshakes, honey maple pumpkin bread, or pumpkin pie in a homemade shortening-free crust. And don’t forget about the DIY pumpkin pie spice! Tips: You don’t have to bake it at 350, that’s just a guideline. Try increasing or decreasing the temp if your oven is already preheated for something else. Or cook other things at the same time, like perfectly crispy baked potatoes or even eggshells for your chickens. If you find that your pumpkin is still not cooked enough once you cut into it, that’s OK. Finish cutting it into chunks and put them back in the oven to bake a while longer. No worries.real pumpkin puree When I cooked my most recent pumpkin, the skin and the flesh of the pumpkin had separated while baking (as you can see in the picture), so all I had to do was hold it upside down to get the skin to come off. It was kinda fun. But if yours doesn’t do this, just scrape it off. The stringy stuff and seeds come off a LOT easier once it’s baked. Before, I would try to scrape them off raw and it took a little more elbow-grease. (Don’t forget to give the pumpkin innards to your goats, pig, or chickens. Or try baking the pumpkin seeds yourself!) I find that a food processor works way better than a blender. But my blender is pretty wimpy. Maybe if you have a high-powered blender it would work better. Store your pumpkin puree in the fridge and use it within a week or so. It also freezes very well.Source: The Prairie homestead
