Lori Penner Red River Valley EchoHundreds of people attended the Sustainable Energy Expo at the MEC in Altona on April 28. The event was organized by the Red River Technical Vocational Area and was intended to give parents, students, educators, and community members a view into what is taught in the RRTVA Sustainable Energy vocational program in Altona, and how the course can lead to unlimited career options. Clockwise from top left, lunch at the Pioneer Centre included a panel of keynote speakers from a variety of organizations and academic institutions. The exhibition included displays and information from a broad spectrum of renewable energy oriented businesses, schools and organizations. This vertical turbine was a big attraction. Students enrolled in the Sustainable Energy program demonstrated how to obtain energy from a table top turbine. Gavin Faurschou, program instructor and organizer of the expo, introduces the rst keynote speaker. Energy efcient vehicles were also on display at the exhibition. Justin Phillips of Sycamore Energy shared his story with students and other guests during one of the day’s seminars.
