Description of the Samsun ammonia tank

• new double wall refrigerated storage tank - 22000 m3

capacity, De=35.1 m, H=31 m - filled with liquefied ammonia• high seismicity: Tekkeköy, Samsun region, Turkey

PGA: 0.278 g at DBE, 0.490 g at MCE• the aim is to keep the existing substructure

• the aim is to keep the existing substructure(r.c. slab on 121 square columns) without reducing the capacity of the tank

• problems: a) insufficient strengthof the existing columns;b) sliding of the tank

• solution: seismic retrofit w.seismicisolation with pendulum isolators
