It is a pleasure to introduce you to Tenby Schools Penang – a unique campus hosting both British International and Malaysian Private Schools, whose reputation of excellence in education, high quality teaching and wider student experience places it among the best value schools in the area.

The campus was built in 2011 and is fully integrated between the two schools. The International School follows the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), National Curriculum for England (UK), IGCSE and A Level programmes, and the Malaysian Private School follows the Malaysian National Curriculum.

Our academic results are excellent and we take every opportunity to give our students enough knowledge, confidence and varied life skills so that they can open the doors to the possibilities of our rapidly changing society. After all, a true measure of a school is not what its students are doing when they are 18; it is what have they have done when they are 80.

We bring together students from different cultures and nationalities to educate them to become global citizens of the future – young people with respect for one another, confidence in themselves and the determination to become outstanding achievers.

The School has the highest expectations of students and staff; each child is considered as individual and precious, and commits to a holistic approach to school life. We are not a one-dimensional exam factory but a school that offers wider experiences across our core values.

A rich range of academic resources complements our modern campus, with state-of-the-art technologies integrated into the curriculum and classrooms. Among our priorities is the continuous support to update teachers with the latest ideas and methodologies so that they can use them to stimulate students. We take great pride in the way lessons are taught; teachers are focused on our students and their learning, while our students are encouraged to be critical learners and to be involved in their own learning.

I warmly encourage students and their families to visit our campus to see how we do things differently. You will not be disappointed because prospective students nearly always choose Tenby Penang after they have spent some time with us.

We welcome you to join our ambitious, busy, happy and unique community.

Message from School Head

Sri Tenby was the first private school in Penang (commencing in 1981 as Sekolah Sri Inai) and currently offers the Malaysian National Curriculum for students aged 7 to 17. In line with our mission of “A United World At Peace – Through Education”, we inspire, support and nurture our multi-cultural students to be well-educated and empathetic global citizens. We are a community of learners working together to prepare our students for tomorrow’s world by building a solid foundation of academic excellence and rigour combined with a warm, inclusive environment in which all our students feel welcome, respected and valued.

Individual successes are celebrated while we remember that we are indeed a family. All students are given abundant opportunities to grow and achieve their full potential. Small classroom sizes allow better teacher-student interaction to establish a conducive learning environment.

We are committed to providing academic excellence in an environment that is rigorous and encouraging. Sciences and Mathematics are taught in English under the Dual Language Programme since 2016. This will provide students with fluency and ease of using the language in pursuit of tertiary education. Our students are provided with exciting and engaging learning experiences both inside and outside the classrooms.

We intend to be the private school of choice for our local families. Our values and beliefs reflect the high standards of our local community – respect, responsibility and cooperation. We challenge our students with high expectations through a stimulating school ethos. We do not just teach the curricula and skills but prioritise values and qualities – courage, compassion and resourcefulness – which they will need in the future. We believe in a disciplined and safe environment where students wear the school uniform with pride. I invite you to come see for yourself the Sri Tenby ethos in action.

CURRICULUM primary school

The new Malaysian Primary School Curriculum is called Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah (KSSR). This curriculum started in the year 2011. The KSSR curriculum was introduced as an effort to restructure and improve the current curriculum to ensure that students have the relevant knowledge, skills and values to face the challenges of the 21st century.

What is meant by a Standard Curriculum?

KSSR was formulated based on a statement of standards. The statement of standards is comprised of content standards and learning standards which need to be achieved by a student in a specific period and level of schooling. The Content and Learning standards are defined as follows:

• Contents Standards are specific statements on what the students must know and can do, within a specific period of schooling, covering the areas of knowledge, skills and values.

• Learning Standards are set criteria or indicators of education quality and achievements which can be measured for each content standard.

22 Sekolah Sri Tenby Prospectus

Tenby Schools is fortunate enough to work with an active Parents Association (PA), whose committee liaises between the school, parents and community associations to create a strong school spirit by organising events and activities for students, parents and staff.

The PA is key when transitioning into the school as it gives parents the opportunity to socialise, stay connected and make friends by hosting coffee mornings. It consists of parent volunteers and maintains a strong community that is inclusive of both the international and national schools.

It relies on the creativity and energy of volunteers to organise events such as:

• Welcome coffee mornings• Parent seminars• The annual Spring and Summer Fairs • Organising food for major school events

It is a warm and welcoming community that we hope you will be a part of too.
