DESCRIPTION
Social and Emotionasl Learning is probably the latest most important Educational theory. It has been widely used in the schools of America. Hopefully this slide will give a brief introduction.TRANSCRIPT
Although the world has made a tremendous development physically, there has been a serious moral crisis. Our youth and children are in high exposure of violence.
Studies show that the most of our society’s children are exposed to violence in their daily lives. More than 60 percent of the children surveyed were exposed to violence within the past year, either directly or indirectly.
These exposures have been fatal for their youth life and lifelong. Polls reveal that 62% of Americans believe that juvenile crime is on the increase. According to the Gallup Poll, Americans believe juveniles are responsible for 43% of violent crime in the U.S.

Educational philosophers agree that It's not enough to simply fill students' brains with facts. A successful education demands that their character be developed as well.
Educators must also help children develop the skills to manage their emotions, resolve conflicts nonviolently, and make responsible decisions
SEL HELPS• Research shows that promoting
social and emotional skills leads to reduced violence and aggression among children, higher academic achievement, and an improved ability to function in schools and in the workplace.
Daniel Goleman: Father of Emotional Intelligence
George Lucas: A champion of SEL
SEL HELPS• Students who demonstrate respect for
others and practice positive interactions, and whose respectful attitudes and productive communication skills are acknowledged and rewarded, are more likely to continue to demonstrate such behavior.
•
SEL HELPS• Students who feel secure and respected
can better apply themselves to learning. Students who are encouraged to practice the Golden Rule find it easier to thrive in educational environments and in the wider world.
SEL HELPS• In SEL, educators (and other students)
coach children in conflict resolution and model how to negotiate, how to discuss differences in opinion without resorting to personal attacks, and how to accept others when their attitudes, beliefs, and values differ from one's own.
SEL HELPS• SEL strives to educate children about the effects of harassment and bullying based on social standing, ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.
SEL HELPS• Teachers must lay the groundwork for successful SEL by establishing an environment of trust and respect in the classroom.
SEL HELPS• Empathy is key. Before children can
be expected to unite to achieve academic goals, they must be taught how to work together, and so it provides them with strategies and tools for cooperative learning.
