This was a full semester long project to design a new home for the Chicago Lyric Opera. The old opera was deteriorating and un-proportional to the opera patrons of Chicago. The selected site for the new opera was Wolf Point, the intersection of the Chicago River’s north, south and west branch. The inspiration for the new design was a painting by David Casper of a glacier. Through many iterations, my team assembled a composition of spaces that cohesively interacted with each other in our desired form.

This project utilized the abilities of the CNC Router. The program was to design a flat-pack chair to be cut with a CNC machine, then assembled with minimal fabrication. This allows the chair to be easily replicated and shipped. I explored a multifaceted, tetrahedral geometry that used triangular faces with locking plates to create a multidirectional chair with a detachable back and leg rest.

Tower Charette Fall 2013

Rive Gauche - Paris, FranceRhino, Grasshopper and V-Ray

A week long design charette to design a skyscraper for the Rive Gauche in Paris. The concept of this design was inspired by the classic arts nouveax staircase. Terraces are stacked and skewed to bridge the gaps between towers. The intent of the design was to create a promenade to optimized the space in between the buildings to be used as vertical public space. It was important for the tower to bring visitors to the under used middle of the towers, rather than just the top or bottom.
