Design responsibilities for this project were to further develop the design, layout and materiality of the cabinetry throughout the house, as well as developing the design and layout of the bedrooms, bathrooms and living rooms. The house was modeled in SketchUp 8.0 and rendered images were produced with V-Ray and Photoshop.

Responsibilities for this project were to further develop the design for the back facade of the house and design the landscape in such a way that enhances the house but does not interfere with the ravine that the house is situated above. The house was modeled in SketchUp 8.0 and rendered images were produced with V-Ray and Photoshop.

SAWYERS RESIDENCE MAY-AUG 2014 | 3A CO-OP DAVIDCLOVERS

This is a residential renovation project in Sai Kung, Hong Kong. As the main person in charge of this project, I had many responsibilities, including heavily contributing to design desicions throughout the project, creating all presentation drawings for the clients, creating all technical drawings and details for the contractor and engineers, and choosing appropriate materials, fixtures and appliances. Technical drawings were created using AutoCAD and presentation drawings were created with AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator. The project is to be completed in December 2014.GROUND FLOOR PLAN

THE REPULSE BAY|INDOOR POOL

This is a renovation project for The Repulse Bay indoor pool. The current cementitious flooring of the pool is being replaced with new tiling and my role was to help design different options for the configuration of the new tiling, as well as helping to design the new lifeguard desk and shoe storage options. The first round of iterations was experimenting with different sizes of tiles, while the second round of interations involved experimenting with orientation and colour of tile, and the third round involved experimenting with completely non rectilinear shapes, pulling the shapes from the adjacent cafe through to the pool flooring. I created presentation drawings for the client using AutoCAD and Adobe Illustrator. The project is to be completed in Octiober 2014.

The ELT System is a robustly designed modular living wall panel with the ability to control the flow of water through each cell for saturation.

The proposed system stores water for toilet use and any water features on site. Not only does it save money by reducing water usage, it also reduces the risk of flooding by increasing paths for water outlet.

SYSTEM INSPIRED BY:

GREEN WALL STUDY RAINWATER SYSTEM STUDYFRONT COVER

The Hong Kong Arts Development Council Head Office wanted to move from the busy office core on Hong Kong Island to a building on Kowloon Island that was the previous station for the Royal Air Force. My role in this project was to be in charge of the booklet outlining the feasability studies for the project. This included material studies, studies of sustainable building strategies. laying out and colour rendering floorplans for presentations, and organizing the layout for the booklet. Programs used to complete this booklet were Photoshop, InDesign, and SketchUp.

The panels are very durable and are 100% recyclable at the end of their life cycle. As well, the pannels can be easily installed and are low maintenance. As for vegetation, the plants can be planted from plugs or from a potted nursery stock right into the cells of the wall.

Rainwater systems are easy to install and the need of new draining components are minimal. Some larger systems have solar PV panels to generate power to drive pumps and managment systems to ensure the tank is topped up by mains supply when rainwater is scarce.

TAI KOO LAU JUNE 2012 | SUMMER INTERNSHIP ANNA KWONG ARCHITECTS & ASSOCIATES | IN CONJUNCTION WITH JENSEN CHOY, KENNY HUI, & SOPHIA YUEN

Tai Koo Lau was a historic Catholic village on Hong Kong Island that has been redeveloped into a cluster of highrise appartment buildings to meet the ever growing population in Hong Kong. The purpose of this project was to celebrate the history of the village through a revival project that invovled building a scaled physical model of the village and the site surrounding it. My role in this project was to create 3D models for four of the ten buildings on the site using Rhino 4.0 and SketchUp.

AXIAL TIDES|CAMBRIDGE ROWING CLUB AUGUST 2013 2B DESIGN STUDIO

The Grand River is an integral part of the history of Cambridge, as it is what brought initial settlement to the city. Today, the Grand River is the centre of many of Cambridge’s recreational activities, including rowing. The purpose of this project was to propose a new design for Cambridge’s existing rowing club with an emphasis on materiality. My project focuses on emphasizing the two main axes on the site: one that runs parallel to the river and one running perpendicular. The parallel axes is accessible during all seasons, as it can be used as a biking or hiking trail during the summer and winter months, whereas the perpendicular axes is only accessible during the warmer seasons, as it is the path rowers take to bring the boats from the storage rooms down to the water. The building is made of predominantly wood with a significant amount of glazing. This creates a sense of unity between the building and its surroundings, as well as establishes the relationship between the occupants inside the building and the river.

VERTIKITCHEN|THE GRAND DOMESTIC REVOLUTION DECEMBER 2012 2A DESIGN STUDIO

Over the past decade, there has been an increase in immigrants to Cambridge, Ontario, 40% of which are South/ Southeast Asian. There has yet to be any proper cultural amenities provided for this demographic, which is what this project will address. The main amenities provided for these people will be an Asian market, where the occupants and the public can have access to Asian goods that are not readily available in Cambridge, and a cultural centre, where occupants and the public can attend cultural events and participate in weekly cultural activities such as Tai Chi and Mah Jong. In addition to the Asian market and cultural centre, the main features of the actual living spaces of the building are the communal dining and kitchen areas on each floor which allow the residents to interact and create a strong cultural community through one of the most important aspects of culture: food.

RBC BANK SUNWAY RIDGE BRANCH|EVOLVE COMPETITION DECEMBER 2012 | 2A ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONNIE LEI, TAK YI LEUNG, & CECYLIA YAN

The main goal of the Evolve Sustainable Design Competition was to develop innovative yet practical concepts for net-zero energy and water-wise buildings. The prompt was to design an RBC bank branch for a site in Calgary, Alberta, based on the key goals of the competition. Using data collected for our site, we designed a building with a simple and elegant circulation, effective rainwater collection system, maximized passive ventilation, functional shading devices, and solar water heating.

SUN PATH: WINTER SUN PATH: SUMMER

VENTILATION

To effectively ventilate the space, operable clerestories are placed on the north and south sides of the building to allow cross ventilation of the dominant northwest winds through the space.

SHADING DEVICES

In order to maintain a desirable comfort level throughout the building, horizontal louvers are used on the south side to effectively block out harsh light in the summer and allow sunlight in during the winter. As well, light shelves are placed on the south windows to allow the harsh south light to be reflected onto the ceiling and act as diffuse lighting for the space.

GREYWATER FILTRATION

Grey water from the building is directed into an outdoor pond where the water is then filtered and stored in an underground water tank. The water is then cycled back into the system and reused throughout the building.

SYMBIOSIS|VISIONS OF SETTLEMENT APRIL 2012 1B DESIGN STUDIO

This project is a high-density infill settlement in the neighbourhood of Churchill Park in Cambridge, Ontario, and increases the net area of the neighbourhood by 120%. Four different types of living units, ranging from single units to family units, are stacked in such a way that the balconies of each unit join together, creating more of a neighbourhood setting rather than a condominium type setting. As this particular street in the neighbourhood has very few views of the park, the project focuses more on views of people and the community created from the social interaction caused by this systematic gathering of people.
