Seminar on World Health Day held at CMH Lahore Medical College

Department of Community Medicine, CMH Lahore Medical College (CMHLMC) organized seminar to

commemorate the World Health Day on 8th April 2019. The objective of the seminar was to create

awareness among the youth/students, faculty and the general public about” Health For All”; since the

theme of this year World Health Day was “Universal Health Coverage: Everyone, Everywhere”.

Before starting of the seminar, there was poster exhibition by medical students and nurses in the

museum of Community Medicine, which was inaugurated by Chief guest, Major General (Retd.) Abdul

Khaliq Naveed, HI(M), principal of the college. After that, an awareness walk was held in which faculty

members, medical students and nurses actively participated.

The seminar started in the college auditorium at 1100 hours with recitation of Holy Quran. A large

number of faculty members, students, nurses and people from all walks of life turned up at the seminar

to improve their understanding of Universal Health Coverage and Health For All

Major Genral (Retd.) Abdul Khaliq Naveed HI(M), principal was the chief guest on the occasion. Other

prominent members of faculty were also present; Major General (Retd.) Professor Chaudhry Ahmad

Khan, head of surgery department, Professor Shahid Hassan, head of physiology department, Brig.

(Retd.) Prof. Dr. Abdu Sattar, head of pathology department, Dr. Saeed, professor of microbiology,

Brig.(Retd.) Rehan uddin, head of dermatology department, and Brig. (Retd.) Tariq Mahmud Mirza, head

of Radiology department.

Speakers of the seminar were Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Chaudhry, head of Community

Medicine, ; Major General (Retd.) Professor Chaudhry Ahmad Khan, head of surgery department, and

Dr Shabnum, CEO of Punjab Health Agency. Miss Kinza Suhail, medical student, performed the duty of

stage secretary.

Professor Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Chaudhry, discussed the key facts, major challenges facing by health

sector of Pakistan, and recommendations for achieving Universal Health Coverage in Pakistan. Major

General (Retd.) Professor Chaudhry Ahmad Khan highlighted the practical experience of universal health

coverage in Pakistan/Armed Forces. Dr Shabnum discussed key challenges of health work force in

Punjab.

At the end of seminar, Chief Guest, distributed souvenirs and certificates among participants of seminar.

This seminar was part of awareness campaign of CMHLMC.
