    Steve Agg, Chief Executive, FCILT

    Steve, a well-known gure in logistics, supplychain and public transport circles, joined the

    Institute in May 2006. He is based at theInstitutes Corby headquarters. His role meanshe meets frequently with politicians andbusiness leaders to ensure transport

    infrastructure remains a key priority in keeping the UKseconomy moving. He has overseen the successful merger ofother Institutes and training organisations into the CILT family.Before taking on the role of Chief Executive he was mostrecently in the high-prole post of Managing Director BusinessServices for the Freight Transport Association. Prior to this hewas UK Distribution Director for Danone. Steve is a long-timemember of the Institute and is committed to raising the prole

    and status of all individuals working in the logistics andtransport profession.

    Damian Beswick, Lead DevelopmenteCommerce Products, Allport Cargo ServicesDamian has worked in China for 20 years, the last 14 withAllport Cargo Services, across many locations, primarilyShanghai and Hong Kong. A uent Mandarin speaker Damianhas used his detailed experience of the unique challenges that

    China presents to Western brands, including latterlyeCommerce channels, to help them launch and build marketshare. Recently returned to the UK, Damian is responsible forACS growing eCommerce product portfolio, designed to

    support a multi-channel strategy in China.

    Martijn Blansjaar, Head of Logisticsand Supply, OxfamMartijn started in humanitarian assistance withMedecins Sans Frontieres (MSF)-Holland in1987. He spent seven years in programmes ofMSF and other agencies around the worldworking in logistics, technical and project co-ordination positions and as Head of Mission. In

    1994 he joined MSF-Holland HQ Logistics Department for

    special assignments, a/o on pharmaceutical distributions,became Coordinator Technical Support in 1997 and Director ofLogistics from March 2001. In November 2006, he joinedOxfam GBs International Division as Head of Logistics andSupply. Outside his regular jobs he has been active since 2003in various initiatives on the professionalisation anddevelopment of Humanitarian Logistics.

    Seminar Speaker Biographies

    Clive Brady, Group VAT & DutyManager, WincantonClive has specic responsibility for all duty andexcise matters across Wincanton, ensuring the

    company complies with the HMRCrequirement of right duty at the right timeand providing guidance on HMRC-relatedmatters. A committee member of The Bonded

    Warehouse Keepers Association and an accountant byprofession, Clive has been with Wincanton since April 2003.

    Captain Richard Brough OBE BAAFNI, ICHCACaptain Richard Brough started his career withthe British Merchant Navy in 1969, comingashore in 1989. After working in managerialpositions for various companies, he eventuallybecame Managing Director for Northern CargoServices Ltd. At this time he was appointed a

    board member of British Ports Industry Training and pioneeredports vocational qualications and became a founder boardmember of Port Skills and Safety Ltd. In 2004 he set up his owncompany, Brough Marine Limited, offering professional advice tocompanies in the ports and logistics sector. In 2007 he formedUK Port Services Ltd (UKPS), which in 2008 became JenkinsPort Services Ltd. Richard later re-formed Brough Marine and in2011 was appointed Technical Advisor to ICHCA InternationalLtd. In 2013 became ICHCAs Technical and Admin Director. Hewas awarded an OBE in 2011 for services to Learning and Skills

    in the Humber Region.

    Stephen Carr, Head of CommercialStrategy, Peel Ports GroupStephen has been Head of Commercial Strategysince January 2013. He joined Peel Ports in 2009as Head of Business Development for theMersey Division where he led the team with anew approach to market, targeting importersand exports, whilst launching numerous

    products and services that add value to and remove inefciencyfrom the supply chain. During this period, he was instrumental

    in evolving the Liverpool2 strategy, developing the containerservice along Manchester Ship canal whilst developing andupgrading offers in other commodity areas too. Prior toworking at Peel Ports, Stephens career spanned both sales andsupply chain roles with both BP and TDG.

    Dorothea Carvalho, ProfessionalDevelopment Project Director,Chartered Institute of Logisticsand Transport

    Dorothea is responsible for the development ofnew projects within the Institute. Dorotheasprofessional background is in training and

    developing people, with a signicant proportion ofher early career spent overseas. She is the Institutes liaison personfor universities, humanitarian logistics and professional standards.

    Vincent Champion, ConsultingEditor, WorldCargo NewsVincent was a co-founder of WorldCargoNews/WCN Publishing in 1994 and Editorial

    Director until 2010, since when he has beenConsulting Editor of WorldCargo Newswithout any change to his work content,specialising in cargo handling equipment, green

    technologies, port and intermodal reports. From 1984 to 1994he was with Cargo Systems International and was thatmagazines editor from 1990.

    Mark Crook, ProductDevelopment/Customs Manager,CORE (UK) Ltd

    Mark has 15 years experience in the pre-shipment inspection industry working withinCustoms classication and valuation regimes,producing and presenting courses for Customsauthorities in developing countries. Recently he

    joined CORE (UK) Ltd as Product Development/CustomsManager. CORE is a solutions provider developing tools toimprove accuracy, compliance and automate Customsclassication of imports/exports.

    Stewart Ferguson,West MidlandsRepresentative and Head ofResearch and Consultancy,China-Britain Business Council

    Stewart began learning Chinese at the age of 16and after graduating from Durham University inOriental Studies worked for both Hong Kongand Taiwan invested companies in the UK. Prior

    to joining CBBC three years ago, Stewart lived and worked inGuangzhou for eight years where he was General Manager fora Taiwanese export orientated manufacturer. Stewart has an in-depth knowledge of both the opportunities and the issues UKcompanies may face when developing business in China.Located in Rugby, Stewart covers the West Midlands, Wales andSouth West England.

    Gary Forster, Chief Executive,TransaidGary has been Chief Executive of theinternational development charity since April2011. Having joined Transaid in 2006, initially asa volunteer, Gary managed projects for theorganisation in Zambia until 2008 and then inNorthern Nigeria until 2010. Prior to working

    for Transaid, Gary was a logistician for Procter and Gamblebased in its Bournemouth distribution centre where hesupported the European Chemicals Customer Service Team bymonitoring KPIs, establishing SLAs with 3PLs and investigatingnon-conformances.

    Ralph Goldney, Managing Director,Railfreight ConsultingRalph set up Railfreight Consulting four yearsago to give independent, expert advice to

    existing and potential future clients and users ofrail freight. The business is thriving with clients inboth the Heavy Haul and Intermodal sectors, andalso in the infrastructure management /terminal

    ownership area. Prior to that he was the Deputy ManagingDirector of GB Railfreight, where he had responsibility for allcommercial and engineering matters. Ralph is a Fellow of boththe Institutions of Civil and Mechanical Engineers and also aFellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transportation.He has an MBA from Henley Management College.

    Matthew Gore, Senior Associate,Holman Fenwick Willan LLPMatthew specialises in transactional corporateand commercial law. His practice spans a widerange of international corporate andcommercial transactions, including acquisitionsand disposals of businesses, assets and shares;joint ventures; corporate law issues; and

    commercial contracts. Matthew has particular experience ofinternational projects including corporate and commercialtransactions in a number of different sectors especially portsand terminals and shipping.     Chris has worked in international trade fornearly 30 years rising to Trade Director in LloydsBank in 2009. During his time with Lloyds, Chrisworked across different business segments from

    Peter Huggins, The KnowledgeCentre Manager, CILT(UK)Peter is responsible for developing, maintainingand improving The Knowledge Centresinformation services in Corby to ensure aneffective provision for all members, staff and thepaying public. Having joined the Institute in

    2000, he has seen The Knowledge Centre growfrom a purely traditional paper-based collection to the largestcollection of logistics and transport-related resources inEurope. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Libraryand Information Professionals (CILIP).

    Sharon James, Dockers SectionSecretary, ITFSharon has worked for the ITF since 2003, rstin the seafarers section and later as assistant

    secretary of the dockers section. She has alsobeen the assistant secretary of the ITFs civilaviation section, giving her a broad knowledgeof the transport sector. Prior to that she was

    an international policy ofcer for the UK Trades UnionCongress. Sharon James trained as a lawyer.

    Nigel Jenney, Chief Executive, FPCNigel heads up the FPC executive teamproviding strategic leadership to effect growthand increased membership. He joined the FreshProduce Consortium as Chief Executive in2004. To assist in representing the UK freshproduce industry, Nigel also holds non-executive directorships on the following

    boards: Freshfel (EU Trade Association for fresh produce) inBrussels; Gangmaster Licensing Authority (GLA); InternationalFederation for Produce Standards (IFPS); and the New CoventGarden Market Authority Board (CGMA). Nigel began hiscareer with the Department of Agriculture & Fisheries forScotland, working with the diversity of the Glasgow WholesaleMarket before moving to Aberdeen.

    and chairs the Groups Logistics Carbon Forum.

    Tristan Koch, Managing DirectorCargo Sales EMEA, AmericanAirlinesAfter studying for an MSc in EnvironmentalEconomics, Tristan began his career as a PolicyAdvisor at the Department of the Environment,Transport and the Regions. This was followed by11 years with British Airways in a number of

    senior positions with a specialism in partnerships, reorganisationand business restructuring. Today he is based at LondonHeathrow and since 2011 has been responsible for all American

    Airlines Cargo activity across UK, Europe, Africa and MiddleEast. That includes not only the carriers general cargo but alsospecialist products such as Expedite TC and its GSSA network.

    Nigel Kotani, company commerciallawyer, Excello LawNigel covers general corporate transactionaland commercial contract work, including UK

    and cross-border company and businessacquisitions and disposals, management buy-outs, group restructurings, private equityinvestment, private and public equity fundraising,

    joint ventures, supply and distribution agreements, outsourcingcontracts and IT contracts. He started his career as a systemsprogrammer and then switched to law and spent 15 years inthe City, including 10 years at a major international law rm,where he gleaned extensive transactional experience in Centraland Eastern Europe. After leaving the City, Nigel spent fouryears effectively running his own legal practice, a market-leaderin supplying legal advice to the logistics and supply chain sector.Nigels clients range from public companies, through privateequity funds, down to owner-managed businesses, and he hasled acquisitions varying in purchase price from US$250 milliondown to 30,000.

    Mark Lawrence, Operations &Service Director, Collect+,Collect+ is the largest store-based parcel servicein the UK. One of the rst directors to join theaward winning start-up in 2010, Mark hasresponsibility for the operational, customerservice and IT divisions of the business, which isa joint venture between PayPoint, the leading

    retail payment network, and the UKs leading parcel deliverycompany, Yodel. Mark is a Supply Chain Director with many yearsof experience across all aspects of the supply chain, havingpreviously worked for First Quench Retail, Fullers BeerCompany, British Airways and Marks & Spencer, where he wasHead of UK Operations until 2009, overseeing non-food logisticsoperations and development of the global logistics strategy.

    Alex Lennane, The LoadstarAlex launched The Loadstar blog in March 2011.It was well-received by the industry, whichtriggered its transformation into the new site.

    Alex is an experienced writer on aviation andlogistics, with many contacts throughout the aircargo industry, and she edits the quarterlymagazine Airline Cargo Management. She is also

    Maeve Magner, strategic advisor, theBill and Melinda Gates Foundation(BMGF) and CHAIMaeve Magner, MBA, is a leading internationalsupply chain advisor with a focus on developingeconomies. With over 29 years experience inthis eld, Maeve has accumulated a wealth ofinternational experience, in both the public and

    private sectors. Her experience includes 25+ years working formultinational organisations including Dell, Tippingpont andCapgemini.     After introducing steel bre concrete to theIrish market in the 1990s, involvement in the BT,Hilton Towers and design of BelfastsWaterfront Hall, Tim moved to Cip Ltd todesign and a install Tom Roes Point container

    terminal pavement in Drogheda, the rst major project utilisingGrouted Macadam. At 20,000 sq m, it was the largest project inGrouted Macadam at that time in the UK and Ireland. Duringthe 2000s, he developed soil stabilisation within the Irish andScottish markets. Back with Cip Ltd and Confalt GroutedMacadam since early 2012, he has been very successfullyworking with Port, Bus and Airport and Distributioninstallations.

    Paul McMahon, Freight Director,Network RailPauls team provides a national focus for freightand supports Network Rails commitment tothe freight sector. The team workscollaboratively with others in Network Rail andacross the freight sector to identify and deliveropportunities to improve rail freight

    performance and capacity. Prior to joining Network Rail, Paulspent more than eight years at the Ofce of Rail Regulation asDeputy Director of Railway Markets and Economics, where he

    Peregrine read Law at Southampton University,specialising in the law of carriage andinternational trade. He has been with the TT

    Club since 1984, rstly handling claims andproviding advice to all types of transport and

    logistics operators, until the late 1990s when he was directingclaims operations worldwide for the Club. Since 2002,Peregrine has led the TT Clubs internal risk managementframework as well as directing its loss prevention services. Inthis latter role he has developed links with like-minded tradeorganisations and NGOs with a view to promoting goodpractice in health and safety matters as well as generaloperations. The Club publishes loss prevention briengs andhandbooks on many operational issues.

    Gavin van Marle, Editor, TheLoadstarGavin van Marle is editor of The Loadstar(www.theloadstar.co.uk), an on-line source ofindependent journalism covering the supplychain industry and providing breaking stories,original comment, news and research as well asthe best stories from around the world. Gavin

    was senior reporter on Lloyds List and was previously editorof IFW and before that Cargo Systems. He is editor of the bi-monthly publication Container Shipping & Trade.     international freight forwarding, global logisticsand supply chain management. He is recognisedas a principal authority on maritime intensivesupply chains and logistics based on his

    achievements at Director level with some of the worldsleading global logistics providers. A graduate of the Institute ofExport and Member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics andTransport, Peters career started in the export shippingdepartment of Courtaulds PLC, before he joined his familysfreight forwarding company, DH Ward (Shipping) Ltd, where hebecame Managing Director. In 1994 he masterminded theCompanys merger with American-owned Fritz Companies,which under his leadership became a top-ve forwarder inEurope. More recently Peter was Director Europe of P&ONedlloyd Logistics, and Managing Director of the InternationalSupply Chain division at Wincanton Group, prior to joining DPWorld London Gateway in April 2011.

    Miles Warren, Managing Director,ACBACB was incorporated in 1997 to provide amultitude of industries with recycling anddisposal options for their redundant radioactivematerial. After several years of military service,Miles spent time in the metal recycling sector

    before turning his hand to radioactive materialmanagement. His professional experience includes RadioactiveWaste Adviser recognition, trained Radiation ProtectionSupervisor, and ADR Classes 7 and 9 licence holder, as well asproviding in-depth guidance to the Home Ofce concerningportal monitoring implementation at key UK points of entry.

    Chris has particular responsibility for executingthe companys strategic partnership with the

    United Nations Ofce for Coordination ofHumanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) in the eldof Disaster Management. Chris is British, based

    Chris Welsh, Director of Global andEuropean Policy, FTAChris has held a variety of senior managementroles for the UK Freight Transport Association

    and is a member of FTAs Board. He is currentlyDirector of Global & European Policy at theFTA where he is responsible for FTAs maritime,rail and aviation policy. This includes

    responsibility for FTAs Brussels operations. Chris is alsoSecretary General of the Global Shippers Forum which isadministered by FTA. From 1997-2002 Chris was SecretaryGeneral of the European Shippers Council where he played aprominent role in deregulating EU shipping and air cargomarkets, spearheading a series of successful maritime legalcases culminating in the repeal of anti-trust immunity for linershipping conferences in 2006. Chris holds a Masters Degree inBusiness Administration (MBA), is a Chartered Member of theChartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), and aMember of the Chartered Management Institute (MCMI).

He joined theUniserve Group in 2010 as Supply Chain Director and in 2011took up the role of Programme Director for the Supply ChainAcademy, providing learning and development to majororganisations whose supply chains are undergoing change orare in need of strengthening.

    in addition it is offering visitors the opportunity to participatein the classic supply chain challenge The Beer Game.

    The Beer Game simulates a simplied supply chain

    manufacturing and distributing beer and demonstrates some

    the fundamental challenges of supply chain management.

    Participants assume one of four roles Manufacturer,

    Distributor Wholesaler or Retailer and the objective is for

    each role to minimise their costs while fullling the orders

    they receive. Trade Extensions will be facilitating the sessionsfrom its stand (no. T1). Up to 16 visitors can participate in
