    Pensacola residents to

    meet with Senator Gaetz

    This Tuesday, three Escambia County schools will receive state academic awardsand cash performance bonuses totaling $148,606 from Senator Don Gaetz.

    Gaetz, who represents Northwest Florida in the Senate, will hold "Neighborhood

    Day" on Tuesday, December 16th in Escambia County. From early morning until wellinto the evening, Gaetz will meet one-on-one with citizens, talk with civic organizations,walk door to door and visit Scenic Heights Elementary School, Cordova Park ElementarySchool and A.K. Suter Elementary School. All three schools earned "A" ratings from theFlorida Department of Education this year.

    Since his election to the Senate in 2006, Gaetz regularly takes his Senate office to

    neighborhoods throughout Northwest Florida to hear citizens ideas and suggestions anddiscuss their problems face-to-face.

    Very few people have the time or opportunity to travel to Tallahassee to expressthemselves about state issues, Gaetz (R-Niceville) said. Neighborhood Day is a chancefor me to spend a whole day in a neighborhood and listen to small business owners,moms and dads, veterans, teachers and taxpayers who live and work there. Theres nogovernment office, no need to make an appointment, its all very informal and the coffeepot is on.

    Neighborhood Day kicks-off at 6:20 a.m. with Senator Gaetz live on WEBY

    AM 1330 with host Dave Daughtry. Following this, Gaetz will be a guest on WCOA1370 AM at 6:40 a.m. with co-hosts Don Parker and Luke McCoy.

    Starting at 8 a.m., the Senator will visit the two elementary schools whosestudents achieved the state's highest scholastic ranking. He will award each schoolprincipal with a senatorial commendation for their outstanding academic achievementsduring the 2007-2008 school year. The first A award presentation will be given toPrincipal Mary Ellen Wiggins from Scenic Heights Elementary School, located at 3801

    Cherry Laurel Drive. This is the sixth consecutive year Scenic Heights Elementary hasearned an "A." At 8:45 a.m., he will present Cordova Park Elementary School PrincipalAggie Bauer with their eighth A award certificate. Cordova Park Elementary is locatedat 2250 Semur Road.

    Then, at Heights Baptist Church from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and again from 2:00p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Gaetz will meet one-on-one with anyone who would like to talk withhim about problems with state agencies or offer opinions about energy, education,insurance, taxes or other concerns. If individuals want to meet with the senator at aspecific time during these office hours, call toll free 1-866-450-4DON. No appointmentis necessary, however, people can simply stop by the church, located at 600 PickensAvenue in Pensacola.

    Gaetz will speak to the Pensacola Rotary Club from noon to 1 p.m. at New WorldLanding located at 600 Palafox Street. He will talk about the economy and the SenateSelect Committee on Floridas Economy.

    At 1:15 p.m., Gaetz will travel to A.K. Suter Elementary School to presentPrincipal Pamela Lewis with their seventh consecutive A award. The presentation at501 Pickens Avenue will begin at 1:30 p.m.

    Later in the afternoon, he will walk door to door in East Pensacola Heightsneighborhoods, meeting residents on their doorsteps. "I enjoy talking with folks on theirown doorsteps," Gaetz said. Before and after his 2006 election to the Senate, Gaetz hasknocked on over 25,000 doors in Northwest Florida.

    Gaetz, halfway through his first four-year term, is one of five senators overseeingpolicy groups and managing the flow of legislation to the Senate floor.

    The Business and Industry Policy Group, which Gaetz will lead, includes Senatecommittees on commerce, transportation, regulated industries, banking and insurance.He also heads the Senates Select Committee on the Economy, a powerful bipartisangroup charged with creating incentives and removing disincentives to economy recoveryand making state and local government function less expensively and more effectively.

    Gaetz was named chairman of the Senate committee with jurisdiction over healthpolicy and regulation. Gaetz is a former hospital administrator, served as president andchairman of the National Hospice Organization and co-founded VITAS HealthcareCorporation, a national health services company which he and his partners sold in 2004.

    Additionally, the Niceville resident is a member of the ways and means policygroup, which has jurisdiction over the states budget and tax policy, and the socialresponsibility policy and steering committee. Gaetz is also a member of the rules, healthappropriations, and education K-12 committees.

    Prior to his service in the Senate, Gaetz was the elected superintendent of schoolsin Okaloosa County, served on the Okaloosa School Board and was the first townchairman of Seaside, Florida.
