2010·29·Senate -04: Termination of studentship of two locally sponsored PhD students:
Name
Mr. Pranab Kumar Patnaik and Mrs. Reena Roy are enrolled in the PhD programme in the Mechanical Engineering department under Local Sponsored category. But they have been transferred by their employer to outside Rourkela. Details are as follows:

Hence, they do not satisfy the status of their studentship "Sponsored Local Student".
As per the instruction of the Director, they were advised to change the status of their studentship to either "Sponsored Student (Full time)" or "Full time student without fellowship (Self financed/self supported)", if interested. If not they may discontinue.
They failecl to change the status of their studentship by a stipulated date, i.e., March 22, 2010. Accordingly they have been informed that they have discontinued the programme .
. The Senate approved the termination of studentship of the above two locally
sponsored PhD students.

2010-29-Senate-08: Publication of results of M.Tech. 4th semester examinations and approval of the list of graduating M.Tech. students:
The results of 4th semester M.Tech programmes and the list of graduating M.Tech students as recommended by PGPEC were put up by Dean (Aca.) The Senate approved the above results.
Further, the Senate decided that students taking withdrawal will be registered for the paper Seminar & Technical writing only twice during withdrawal period.

E. MISCELLANEOUS:
2010-29-Senate -09: Any other matter with permission of the Chair:
a) Academic Calendar for the session 2010-11 has been revised as per the decision of the Senatc and subsequent advice of the Director. Director will issue a circular for streamlining the submission and uploading of project thesis by the students befordhe submission date.
b) The studentship of Sri Sudhansu Sekhar Tulip was discussed. The Senate confirmed its earlier decision of termination of his studentship.

Note: (1) All other offences will be made equivalent to one of the above by the ISOC considering the nature of the offence and the circumstances.
(2) Higher penalties may be given if so announced in advance under special situations for example, in a public function if it is announced that crossing barricades will invite expulsion from the Institute, such punishment may be given.
(3) In case of multiple offences of comparable seriousness the penalty shall be at least one step higher than the highest penalty of individual offences.
(4) If a student makes a false complaint, against another student, the penalty on the former student will be at least one step higher than the highest penalty recommended for the offence charged.
(5) Students given 'F' grade for a disciplinary measure are not eligible for supplementary examinations. They may, however, register for summer courses if offered or write backlog paper in the following year. For final year students the F grade will be replaced by UR status.
(6) If a penalty leads to UR status in an even semester course of final year, the student may be permitted to replace it by another subject of odd semesteL.(llG..or PG) considered equivalent or higher by the departmental academic committee.

Agenda discussion-1: Recommendation of 4th Semester M.Tech results of Spring Examination 2009-10:
PGPEC recommended the 4th Semester M.Tech results of Spring Examination 2009-10 to be approved by the Senate as put up with the following specific comments.
a) The results of M.Tech students taking withdrawal and registering for full 20 credits of Research will be given I grade.
b) Respective departments to clarify the credits to be considered for each withdrawal student and accordingly grade to be resubmitted.
c) For the withdrawal students, it not clear whether they will complete 8 or 12 credits of Seminar & Technical Writing in three years. It is also not clear that whether students can register for Comprehensive Viva-Voce before completion of the project.
d) Since the results of Biomedical Engineering and Biotechnology are not yet received in the Academic Office, the results may be put up to the Senate directly for approval.
Agenda discussion-2: Change of grade in the course EC-624 : Embedded Computing System:
Four second semester M.Tecn (TSP) students were awarded B grade originally in the course EC-624 : Embedded Computing System which was notified by the course teacher in the department Notice Board. While entering online, due to oversight B grade was entered as EX by the course teacher for all these four students. This was pointed out by a student and was verified from the database and the course teacher. The course teacher has requested to change the grade Ex to B for these four students.
