Upon receiving a plot of land in the Monkey Junction area of Wilmington, NC, the idea to build a transitional home for a veteran, with a family who is attending local universities, emerged. Step Up for Soldiers is proud to announce a new project, “Kramer House”, named for a North Carolina National Guard Soldier who was killed in combat June, 29 2009. Upon receiving a plot of land in the Monkey Junction area of Wilmington, NC, the idea to build a transitional home for a veteran, with a family who is attending local universities, emerged.

With the help of Mr. Cory Thompson of CT Hone Design, the plans for a 1400 square feet house will be completed. We hope to start this project mid-February, 2014. Mr. Mickey Webb, a general contractor in Wilmington, has generously offered to head up the building project for Step Up For Soldiers.

Now we need your help. The house will be built along the lines of a Habitat for Humanity build (i.e. with hard work, sweat and determination). Step Up For Soldiers is starting a donation program in order to supply the materials needed for the house and the overall project. This will be placed in book format, with every needed piece of material listed, and when donated, who supplied that material.

In addition to monetary contributions, we are also seeking the assistance of licensed professionals who would be willing to donate their expertise. As this is a Veteran’s signature house, we will also be asking local Veteran’s groups, church groups, social organizations and other hardworking volunteers for their help to build this house. Benefits of participating in this project include positive exposure from radio and TV coverage, as well as web site and Facebook posts.

By completing this house we as a community, are assisting Veterans in their new journey of life insuring that our veterans are able to remain with their families, we are doing more than just building a house: we are building a stronger family, and thus a stronger community.

Here are some of the tradesmen that have signed up to help with this project.

MW Webb licensed contractor, Ken Fowler licensed Air Conditioner and Heating, Kaleb Dutil licensed Electrician, Dean Moss Home Depot, and Wallace Van Ahoy metal framing material and many individuals and organizations.
