Depart your gateway city for Málaga, Spain.

Day 2 | Málaga, Spain | Antequera

Upon arrival, transfer to Antequera andcheck in to the Parador de Antequera.

Tonight, at the parador, get to know your fellowtravelers at a Welcome Reception and Dinner.

Day 3 | Antequera

Discovery: Ancient Antequera. Witnessthe striking prehistoric architecture of theMenga and Viera dolmens. Imagine the incredible labor and engineering skill behindthe construction of these enormous stone burial chambers. Then head into Antequera for a walking tour that reveals its roots as acultural crossroads. Begin at the Alcazaba, a 14th-century Moorish fortress which onceguarded the city, and admire sweeping vistasof the city and surrounding countryside. Visit El Carmen Church and see other historic landmarks before breaking for lunch in town.

Free Time: The afternoon is yours to plan.

Enrichment: Andalucía and the MoorishInfluence. Examine how eight centuries of Muslim rule shaped the region’s culture.

Day 4 | Granada

Discovery: Granada & Palace City. Today, discover the Alhambra, the dazzling Moorishwalled city of palaces and towers, set regallyover the city and framed by the Sierra Nevadamountains. The Nasrid sultans who built it inthe 13th and 14th centuries sought to createtheir own paradise on earth. As you meander within the courtyards and arcaded walkways, marvel at the exquisitely filigreed wooden and stucco carvings and ceramic mosaic details. In the breathtaking Palacios Nazaríes,see the Hall of the Ambassadors, the Court of the Myrtles, the Court of the Lions and other chambers. Visit the Alcazaba, the heartof Alhambra’s defense system, and strollthrough the manicured gardens of Generalife,the summer palace. Conclude with lunch atthe restaurant of the Parador de Granadawithin the Alhambra’s walls.

Day 5 | Sevilla

Discovery: Sevilla. Embark this morning ona panoramic/walking tour of southern Spain’scultural capital. Visit the magnificent Plaza deEspaña with its elegant, semi-circular façade,pretty bridges and tiled alcoves. Step insidethe stunning Cathedral of Sevilla, the world’slargest Gothic church. Next, tour the splendidReal Alcázar, a 10th-century Moorish palace,still in use today as a Spanish royal residence.

See the centuries-old bullring and the Moorishwatchtower near the Guadalquivir River. Endwith a walk in the quaint Barrio de Santa Cruz,where narrow lanes lead to shady squares andbougainvillea spill over the balconies.

Free Time: Choose a cozy spot for lunch on your own before returning to Antequera.

Day 6 | Ronda

Discovery: Ronda. Spectacularly situatedon the edge of El Tajo Gorge, Ronda is thelargest of the pueblos blancos, or whitetowns. Visit the lovely Iglesia de Santa María la Mayor, a church built on the site of a formermosque. Then stand in the arena of the Plazade Toros, first opened in 1785, and delve intothe intensely dramatic world of bullfighting at its museum. Cap off your time in Rondawith an unforgettable view from the terrace of Casa de San Juan Bosco.

AHI Connects: Bodega Joaquín Fernández. Delight in this organic winery’spastoral setting over lunch and a tasting.

Day 7 | Córdoba

Discovery: Córdoba. Explore La Mezquita,the exceptionally beautiful mosque-cathedral.Built in the eighth century, the great mosquewas converted into a Catholic church after the Reconquista in 1236, and a Renaissancecathedral was added in the 16th century. Theresulting combination of Christian and Islamicdecorative elements is truly astonishing, suchas its spellbinding hall of 856 columns linkedby striped double arches. Later, gaze at the imposing Roman bridge, and walk through the atmospheric Jewish quarter.

Free Time: Set your own agenda for lunchand exploration in Córdoba.

Tonight, dine at a restaurant in Antequera.

Day 8 | Antequera

Enrichment: Contemporary Spain. Gaininsights about issues impacting the nation.

ELECTIVE | Torcal & Olive Oil Experience. At a family-owned olive mill, follow the process of making the oils, then sitdown for a delicious brunch featuring the mill’sproducts. Afterward, drive through El Torcal Nature Reserve, best known for its unusuallimestone formations, and stop for a coffee.

As you meander within the courtyards and arcaded walkways, marvel at the exquisitely filigreed wooden and stucco carvings and ceramic mosaic details. In the breathtaking Palacios Nazaríes,see the Hall of the Ambassadors, the Court of the Myrtles, the Court of the Lions and other chambers. Visit the Alcazaba, the heartof Alhambra’s defense system, and strollthrough the manicured gardens of Generalife,the summer palace.
