A message from the Governing Body of Gowerton School

It is, as ever, a pleasure and a privilege to share the celebration of Gowerton School’s award winning students. Tonight's performers and award winners represent not only their own achievements, but

also those of every pupil and student, for it is the work of every single member of the school that makes it consistently one of the the top five achieving schools in Wales. The young people receiving awards are the first among equals, demonstrating particularly fine personal performance in GCSEs, vocational qualifications, AS and A levels and in their sporting, creative and personal development. We are proud of them all. This evening’s awards are sponsored by the school and governors, by the Gowertonian Society, by local business, by the armed forces, and by, or in memory of, individual former students and staff. The names of all the award sponsors, and of those remembered in the awards, appear throughout this evening’s programme. We are delighted that many of the sponsors are here tonight to add their praise to the prize winners, and to give them encouragement and advice for the future. We are delighted, too, to have this opportunity to make special mention of two particular members of the school leadership team, without whose wisdom, talent, loyalty and charisma the school would not be the place it is today. I refer of course to Head Teacher Peter Harrison and his senior Assistant Head, Tom MacCarthy, who are retiring at the end of August. They are exemplary leaders, encouragers and developers of generations of students and staff, and have created a strong and successful legacy for their successors. The school ethos is to give every single pupil and student the opportunity to achieve her or his very best. Gowerton’s teachers, parents, carers and mentors inspire and encourage them but it is the students and pupils themselves who put in the really hard work. The school’s young people enrich their own lives and those of the wider community through their achievements. We thank everyone taking part this evening, and extend hearty congratulations to everyone performing and receiving awards. Llongyfarchiadau i chi pawb - congratulations to you all!
