Senior year the year of last chances the year where

memories stay forever but repression may leave an

impression When school started I was already accepted into

college It wasnrsquot hard at all really Sadly enough many of my

friends had changed Some were cheating on their girlfriends

Others were leading guys on Some even started hanging out

with the wrong crowd It wasnrsquot all bad though

Some of my friends found true love good friends and

great opportunities I found all three of these Ashley Adams

and I have been dating for over a year and still going Her

friends along with my friends Travis Tyler Tom Rahul Chris

and Nick have been the best to me Even my job has perks I

made the Wilson Furniture website along with earning more

money than anyone in the school for it Though you canrsquot have

all sunny dayshellipa rainy day or two can change that

My girlfriend gave me quite a scare I was completely

devastated Then my one good friend is still being led on by

someone I thought was a friend but turned out to behellipwell I

canrsquot say here The senior year is meant to have good

memories something you want to tell your children but I want

to forget this year Times have changed indefinitely and every

Senior has started drama and this year is the worst yet

If you want advice then listen here if you start drama

then stop If you want to avoid it you will still start it Just lay

back and let things happen and Senior Year wonrsquot be as bad as

you think

Itrsquos almost summertime and that means vacations sun and some summer lovinrsquo I hope you went to see the St Crsquos Players production of Grease because itrsquos the perfect example of a summer relationship gone bad then good then terrible and then finally great I have to admit that I was extremely surprised by the authenticity and talent in the musical I thought that because of Greasersquos mature content that the production would be toned down and lame I can gladly say that I was mistaken because the details big and small were great There were so many costume and prop changes that were very elaborate but also very fast The crew obviously put in hours of time and dedication There was especially one small detail that made the play for me It may seem silly to most but I really appreciated how almost every ribbon in the girl characterrsquos hair was changed along with every outfit The live music played during was also spectacular I had the honor of sitting in front of the band and like the crew it was evident that they practiced very hard and were excited to be doing it

Overall the whole thing completely blew me away and I hoped it gave you some tips for some summertime lovinrsquo The only thing that could have made it better would be casting Frankie Berardi as Danny Sorry Austin

263 days ago my fellow peers and I walked into St

Clairsville High School knowing that this was our senior

year our last ldquohoorahrdquo before leaving the nest and heading

out into the real world I still remember that day and

walking into the school thinking ldquoOne more year thatrsquos all I

gotta make it throughrdquo Well they donrsquot lie when they say

senior year goes by much quicker than the three previous

years you spend in high school and itrsquos definitely the year

with the most memories at least it was for me

I now find myself saying ldquoWhere has the time

gonerdquo which is a much different thought compared to the

beginning of the year This year has been full of many

blessings tough times days that drug on forever and

memories that will last me a lifetime Itrsquos hard to believe that

senior year has come and gone I can still remember my first

day of Kindergarten cheering my first middle school football

game and going to my first homecoming But now that the

countdown is on it really makes you take the time to stop

and appreciate everything high school has given you I know

we all say we hate high school and we canrsquot wait to get out

but deep down we all secretly donrsquot want to leave

So hats off the class of 2012 Letrsquos take in every moment we have left and make this year go out with a bang

Itrsquos graduation time again a day that we anticipate since the day we enter high school We are sending a farewell to the class of 2012 As usual the graduation will be held at the Ohio University Fitness Center on May 25th with the senior picnic held May 24th at Olegbay Park in Wheeling A senior Megan Hendershot says ldquo Right now Irsquom excited to spend the last few weeks with my classmates but I am also ready to move on to the next step and meet new peoplerdquo As ritual at St Clairsville High School Graduation the class president will speak the 2012 class president is Lexie Smith Mr Skaggs Principal Superintendent of St Clairsville High School describes the class as ldquoOverall an enthusiastic group Made my year back smooth and seamlessrdquo

Oglebay Good Zoo a place where anyone can empty

themselves among the wildlife and activities Our

preschool has been working on their social skills so as

a means to test their social behavior in public they

were taken to Oglebay on May 3rd to experience its

beauty and animalistic wonders

This is an annual end of the year family field

trip for the youngsters and their respective families

The kids got to see the animals and play on the

playground It was a good time all around and is a

great way for them to end their school year

Giving Kids the ldquoRight to

Readrdquo By Alexis Laurine

Reading has taken the elementary school by storm They recently participated in a ldquoRight to Readrdquo Week The purpose of this program is to highlight the importance of reading to children and its influences on childrenrsquos lives Some classes even had guest speakers come in and read to hem I had the pleasure of reading to Mrs Moweryrsquos class as a guest reader and I believe that this program is a wonderful thing It encourages children to

read and it helps them to enjoy it Reading is a very important skill that children should learn to love and the ldquoRight to Readrdquo program helps to accent that

Earth Day is basically a day off for the Earth We help

it relax get well and clean it up a good bit A lot of people

take advantage of Earth Day and fully respect it Because if

there werenrsquot people who we refer to as ldquotree huggersrdquo or

ldquohippiesrdquo trying to do everything they can to protect and

promote the Earth Earth Day would probably not exist and

would be filled with all types of pollution and contamination

more than it already has St Clairsville Elementary School

students also decided to be involved in Earth Day and plant

trees RDDs Cody Jackson interviewed some of the ldquolittle

gardenersrdquo on why they were changing the planet for the

better

Kambel says he did it simply for ldquoSpring and Earth

Dayrdquo ldquoBecause it takes care of the Earthrdquo Riley included

Kody planted the trees to have shade for the playground and

Kristen wants to have support for her playground project No

matter the reason these kids planted their trees and helped

the Earth People should take heed and do as these children

Earth that were living on and keep it rolling

March Madness Comes to St C By Cody L Jackson

Everyone knows what March Madness is itrsquos the NCAA basketball tournament consisting of 68 teams that compete to play in the National Championship Recently St Clairsville sixth graders had their own March Madness Mr Schwertfeger the band director held a playing tournament for his sixth grade band classes to see who was the best The tournament was conducted using a program called Smart Music which is an online program that records you and grades you on how well you do Out of the two sixth grade band classes there were four winners Kelsey Wright Shaina Thornton John Kasik and Taylor Henry Mr Schwertfeger in his second term as Director of Bands commented on the competition He was quoted in saying that ldquothe real NCAA tournament inspired [the competition] ldquoHe also said that the students performed ldquoreally wellrdquo and ldquoreally took to the competitionrdquo Mr S also said that he will be doing his version of march madness with other grade levels in the years to come Three of the four winners were interviewed on their thoughts RDD At the start of the tournament did you expect to win

As you already know Mondays

are the worst days of the week

Especially when it comes down to the

last few of the school year However

since October of 2011 myself Zach

Bigelow Landen Thompson Jimmy Lodi

Joey Maroon Matt Cervelli and Logan

Williams have discovered an event that

has made Mondays just as important as

weekends It is Wing Night at West

Texas Roadhouse with forty-five cent

wings It may sound like a casual dinner

but we have so much fun there First of

all every time itrsquos one of our birthdays

we get an enormous brownie ice cream

sundae Not only that but before we all

get to dig in whoeverrsquos birthday it is has

to shove their face in the whole thing

Also we get the same waitress every

time we go there Her name is Gretchen

and she is so important to us that if all

seven of us have to squeeze into a booth

we will Yoursquore probably wondering why

she is so important Well Irsquoll gladly tell

you Gretchen provides our every need

whether it be ordering the most

ridiculous thing or letting us buy the

cook wings So if yoursquore ever going to

West Texas and want great service

request Gretchen Now Irsquove told the

food and service but what else has

happened Well a few weeks ago we

were all outside waiting for our rides

when this paving truck came pulling in

We didnrsquot think much of it but them

decided to go over and talk to the

driver The company was called Shawrsquos

so we asked the driver if his name was

Shawn He said ldquoNawrsquo my namersquos

Alfred Irsquom down from Missourirdquo He let

us climb up onto the truck and honk the

horn which was pretty cool Then he

was telling us how staring the next

morning he had to pave Lowersquos parking

lot So after we got a picture with him

even though he said he was camera shy

and ducked down to hide from the

camera we told him thank you for what

we got to do Alfred said ldquoA thank you

goes a long way boys now donrsquot you

forget thatrdquo With the school year

beginning to end we are still going to

attend Wing Night every Monday We

might even see you there

Most students look forward to one big trip at the

end of the school year It just so happens that this year the

fifth sixth and seventh grades are all traveling to

Pittsburg Pennsylvania to enjoy a day at Kennywood

First of all the seventh grade fieldtrip advisor and staff

held a grade-wide t-shirt design contest The winner

Noah Roscoe will receive between ten to twenty dollars

and the honor of having his design on the t-shirt Also the

students voted for a color for the t-shirt with safety (Neon

yellow) coming out on top On May twenty-first middle

school students (excluding eighth grade) will have fun

riding rollercoastrers chilling with friends and eating

lots of amusement park foods This trip also signifies the

end of the school year which meanshellip No SCHOOL

When they say the more the merrier theyrsquore not kidding And Lexie is the perfect example of that The more yoursquore involved in the more rewards yoursquoll get in return Who knows someday we just might see her on the Broadway stage or maybe

even the first woman President Congratulations on all of your achievements Lexie and we wish you all the luck on college

In the Senior Society

Over its opening weekend the

Avengers swept the box office but

although highly anticipated it lacked some

basic development The characters were

well depicted with emotions and their

thoughts unraveled as the story went on

but the plot was quite weak and was

missing the layered effect of a quest for

nothing more than a cube that would

destroy the earth

I commend the producers on their

ability to create a movie that encompassed

so many iconic characters and throughout

the story did not allow for any one of them

to lose their individuality by working in a

group quite ingenious They gave each

character a distinctive personality and ran

with their personas throughout the entire

show which caused the audience to be

able to relate well with the characters and

not lose interests by seeing the same

attributes in all the heroes

On the other hand aside from

character depiction the film lacked a

strong plot The whole story could

realistically be told in ten minutes The

villain the god Loki is after a blue cosmic

cube because he wants to destroy and rule

the world That is as deep as the plot gets

there are no betrayals no twists nothing

The whole story is about the villain going

after this cube and of course by the end

the heroes win and save the day They

could have improved upon the plot even if

they added one unexpected twist or turn

but no the story remained constant

The Avengers was indeed not the

worst film ever but it wasnrsquot good It was

told in a basic good versus evil sense and

certainly could have been improved but it

is one of the stronger movies that have

recently come out and I was at least able

to enjoy the film but was probably not one

that I would want to see too often I would

recommend at least watching it but it may

not be worth the money to see it in the

theaters

hellip This is it The moment weve all been waiting for

The end of the school year Which can only mean ldquoSchools

out for the summerrdquo Even though its not exactly the same

for seniors For seniors ldquoSchools out foreverrdquo hellip besides

college Anyways high school comes to a complete end for

the seniors of 2012 and their life of anew starts and

continues with their decisions good or bad leading them

into inevitable directions taking them to many new

directions With this being said for the last time of this school

year RDD decided to interview the teachers of St Clairsville

High School to know about their senior year and graduation

ldquoBack in their dayrdquo

Mrs Maffet one of the Civic and Economic teachers

was our first interviewee She says her senior year of high

school was good but she wished she would have done

different things or took other classes ldquoI already knew that I

wanted to be a History teacher in the 8th graderdquo she stated

Her favorite memory was being close to her History teacher

who valued Mrs Maffet and her wants for being a History

teacher When given her diploma her first thoughts were ldquoI

can move on to collegerdquo Her senior year was what she

expected but she wished she would of valued it more All she

mainly thought about was getting out of school Mrs Maffets

Senior Prom was good but her boyfriend was in Iraq at the

time and she didnrsquot want to go with any other guy So she

went with her friends

Our second teacher we interviewed was Coach Stiles

Science 9 teacher His favorite memory of senior year in high

school was ldquoHanging out with friends and playing sportsrdquo

ldquoIrsquom glad to be moving on to college to start my education

and careerrdquo was Coach Stiles thoughts when we was given

his diploma Senior year was what he expected but it was to

him small and unimportant He wanted to go to ldquonew and

unexplored areasrdquo of his life Coach Stiles Prom was pretty

fun to plan and prepare for but as he says ldquoThe Prom was

more important to the females but not so much for the

malesrdquo

The final teacher we interviewed was Mr

Sauvageot He says ldquoIt was basically uneventfulrdquo when he

was asked ldquoHow did you enjoy your senior year of high

schoolrdquo His favorite memory was when he received a full

scholarship to Stentson University When he was given his

diploma Mr Sauvageots thoughts were ldquoI can finally start

living my liferdquo He says his senior year was what he expected

a lot of hard work and expectations For his Senior Prom he

stayed at home and chilled Ironically the one thing that he

regretted from senior year was not going to Senior Prom

As for now RDD would like to thank you all for

reading ldquoBack in My Dayrdquo Congrats to the soon to be

graduated Seniors of 2012 we wish you the best of fortune

by making it to sectionals

and winning the Buckeye 8

With a regular season record

of 13-11 the athletes that

made up the team this year

obviously had strive for

success Though the team

often had errors they

always came back together

to form an unbeatable

defense With inspirational

coaches and talented

athletes the team was a

phenomenal influence on

St Clairsville as a whole

They have worked hard for

years to reach success and

have earned respect among

the community

Go Hard or Go Home

St Clairsville high school is sometimes known for their

athletic prowess This is no exception with St Clairsvilles

high school tennis team Despite several issues that would

make any other schools tennis team crumble ours stayed in

it and pushed through to the end Before the season even

started the tennis team lost one of their best players AJ

DeNoble due to broken bones The loss of AJ somewhat

doomed our team from the start it forced us to push players

up and therefore made our team worse Izaac Wiley who

would have been our teams 3rd seed was forced to move up

to 2nd letrsquos just say he didnrsquot appreciate this too much so he

demanded to be back on third seed The tennis teamed faced

more problems than this though one of the worst was our

lack of players After the loss of AJ we had t recruit female

players from the girlrsquos team But this did not stop us with

the new arrives of Taylor Stephens and Danielle DeNoble

our team became anything but weaker After the season

progressed more issues with our team rose After Izaac de-

cided he didnrsquot want to play 2nd seed the team was forced to

move Chris Baker up to the spot This wasnrsquot good for the

team in the least Chris didnrsquot win single match all season

after getting moved up but did this stop our team no Even

in spite of these issues coupled with our teams losing record

we stayed strong and still never lost faith with all of the

problems it was no wonder the Coach Mr Verba and

assistant coach Mr Oberdick didnrsquot spontaneously combust

This was just some of the issues the St Clairsville tennis

team of 2012 had to face But we never gave up and we

pushed on until the end

The St Clairsville track team has accomplished many of the goals they sat out to do at the very beginning of the season Coach Ben Frye had stated before the season began that he would like for the track team to be the best at the Buckeye 8 and OVAC track meets this year The boys have done just

that They placed first in both the Buckeye 8 and the OVAC track meets Although the girls did not they still finished strong with coming in second in the Buckeye 8 track meet and coming in third for the OVAC track meet The season is going well so far and the team hopes to finish strong

The team this year has been doing well with a 16-6

record Although we might have had some stupid mistakes I

think it all buff out in the end

I talked to baseball player Turner Provost about what

he sees happening in the future with this team He said ldquoI think

the next two seasons but we are loosing a lot of good players so

will wait and see

accomplished many goals in track with

this activity and continues to exceed in

Irsquom sure any student whorsquos had her would agree that Mrs Underdonk is one of the most extraordinary teachers theyrsquove had this far She makes English easy to understand and relatable to our own lives while also teaching us how to live our lives to the fullest and most successful way possible She says to her the best part of teaching is ldquotrying to make a difference in teenagersrsquo livesrdquo

Mrs Underdonk went to John Marshall High School where her favorite subject was English When she started college she says ldquothe only thing I knew is that I

didnrsquot want to be a teacherrdquo However starting her sophomore year and still unable to decide on a major she followed in an excited friendrsquos footsteps going into teaching little kids It didnrsquot take her long to change to High School teaching and find that it was the thing for her

She has now been teaching at St Clairsville for 25 years and will be retiring after this year Shersquos looking forward to spending more time with her family As much as we will miss her we hope her retirement goes well and thank her for being such a great teacher

With the school year coming to an end you arenrsquot going to be able to see your girlfriend everyday at school For some guys not seeing their girlfriend could be a great thing Whoops did I say that But for others this could be very hard If you want your relationship to last or for some guys not to last then you should probably follow these steps below

As always the guys and the girls were both interviewed on where to take your girl over this summers break Ladies first Senior Megan Paglialunga was asked where she would like her boyfriend to take her over this summer and responded with ldquoPittsburgh to shop and go to the cheesecake factory would be awesomerdquo Okay so Megan is the big spender watch out for her guys When Senior Brooke Bosworth was asked the same question she responded with ldquoHead over to the drive-inrdquo Not a bad answer for the guys to hear a nice and cheap movie with your girl wouldnrsquot be too bad

The ldquocluelessrdquo men also had to be questioned on the topic of where to take the girls Senior Luke Morrison answered the same question but where he would take a girl over summer break and responded with ldquoTake her to Sandcastle water parkrdquo Okay so not too bad of an idea You get to hit up a water park all day and catch some rays might have to look into that one Sophomore lady killer Colby Lindsey was asked about where he felt that girls would want to be taken over summer break and responded with ldquoI think that she would want me to take her to the beach but it depends on how long wersquove been datingrdquo So having your girl with you at the beach doesnrsquot sound too bad at all

When you first hear the word ldquopageantrdquo what do you

think If yoursquore like most people yoursquod think of TLCrsquos Toddlers

and Tiaras little girls all dressed up in expensive dresses

loaded with plenty of hairspray and make-up to last them a

lifetime Or maybe you think of Sandra Bullock in Miss

Congeniality with all of the beautiful but airhead women

competing for the crown However what people donrsquot know is

what really goes on behind all the glam and fashion of a

pageant

I started competing in pageants around seventh grade

and since then Irsquove witnessed it all From girls sword fighting

with their mothers (using hairbrushes) to having the pleasure

to meet some of the sweetest girls ever Irsquove been through it all I

know right now some of you are thinking ldquothis chickrsquos got to be

kidding me I know what goes on at pageantsrdquo well I can

guarantee you donrsquot For me pageants are a way to gain

connections and meet new people that will help me establish

where I want to go in life Whether it is the pageant director or a

judge you never know who is going to help you accomplish

what you want to do

In the movie Miss Congeniality pageant queens are portrayed as being ditzy airheads whose only goal in life is to accomplish ldquoworld peacerdquo but the titleholders today are intelligent gorgeous goal-oriented women that give back to society through in numerous ways They are way more than a pretty face Now Irsquom not saying there are no mean girls in the pageant world because there are the few who abuse the system and act like theyrsquore starring in the movie Mean Girls However the good definitely outnumber the mean So to close pageants are a way to express yourself and guide you to where you want to go

After months of campaigning and protesting the March election for Vladimir Putin in Russia

took place In the race for the power of the president Putin won another term of six years which

will extend his already twelve year term to 2018 Protesters gathered in the tens of thousands

during his campaign and they did the same miraculous stunts for the presidentrsquos inauguration

On May 7th Putin prepared to give his inaugural address to the people but some 20000

angry citizens did not share Putinrsquos enthusiasm The protesters began launching themselves upon

the police that guarded the commander in chief and the protesters with no avail succumbed to

Vladimir Putinrsquos security

It became nearly evident that the president was not to be toyed with and may take more

forceful measures against such demonstrations in the future now that his has obtained the power of

President and abdicated the prime minister position Putin believes that the protests will die down

and the nation will continue to prosper as a democracy With the evident example of Putinrsquos

superiority Russia as a nation will overcome the protesters and in the words of Putin ldquoWe want to

live and we will live in a democratic country that will offer opportunities and freedom for everyones

On May 7 2012 Franccedilois Hollande assumed control of France and defeated Conservative President Nicholas Sarkozy to become the next socialistic power over the western Europe nation Hollande will officially take control of the country on May 15th and is already the talk around the world He has been invited to the White House intends to attend the G-8 and NATO summits and intends to address the nation at a World War II ceremony where he will speak alongside Sarkozy Hollande has already multiple plans for the nation to continue the socialistic motions of France set in motion by Franccedilois Mitterand who lost office back in 1995 The new President intends to pull all French troops out of Afghanistan by the end of the

year He also has expressed his concern for education and intends to hire more teachers to schools and increase spending in the education sector money that will come from the very wealthy Hollande wants to tax millionaires and billionaires 75 of their income The new president also wants to lower the retirement age from sixty-two to sixty for ldquosome peoplerdquo He also has plans to wean France off its dependence on nuclear energy he wants to legalize euthanasia and gay marriage Hollande also wants to renegotiate the budget-trimming treaty which served the purpose of bringing the European economies closer together He wants to allow for government-funded stimulus programs in hopes of restarting growth and development German Chancellor Angela Merkel has spoken out in reference to Hollandersquos new plans as she and Sarkozy were the main contributors to the budget-trimming and many

people fear that there may be animosity between Germany and France now with Hollande in office Merkel explained her views saying We in Germany and I personally believe the fiscal pact is not up for negotiation Despite the position that Hollande has assumed many people fear that his rise to power may not be in the best interest of the world and could corrupt the world economy With his new tax regulations the wealthy will desire to flee France and thus they will The nation will lose a huge part of their economic sector this could cause the fall of the French economy thus causing the decimation of the Euro and the demise of the world economies being that they are all interconnected The alternative would be for the Germans or collective efforts of the European nations and possibly even the United States to help France financially recover but this too could lead to further destruction of the world economy

Now France looks toward the parliamentary elections that are forthcoming in June for the elections are vital to the Conservatives and the Socialists The Socialists currently have control over the Presidency and the Senate and if Hollandersquos party can claim the lower house as well the socialists will have unquestioned power over France but should the Conservatives win the lower parliamentary house they would be capable of blocking the socialists and their reign of power It will be most Interesting to witness how such events will play out as next month two political parties will compete for a conquest of great power the shell game has begun

Recently in Bogota Colombia before Barrack Obamarsquos

arrival in Latin America Secret Service agents were involved in a

prostitution scandal Late night in a bar a young prostitute

named Dania Londono Suarez was offered 800 dollars for her

services from a Secret Service Agent After spending the night

together Dania was kicked out of the room the next morning

when asking for her money She only received 50 dollars Then

the police were involved

Dania says during the night the agent slept for 5 hours

When Dania appeared on the Today Show she said that she had

plenty of time to go through the suitcase wallet or any belong-

High school For some itrsquos the best years of their life For others itrsquos social torture chamber ruled by the elitists and

the adults For me itrsquos the latter My freshman year was god awful I lost all of my friends from middle school sat in the

cafeteria alone reading whatever book I could get my hands on and just flat-out didnrsquot try in any of my classes My

sophomore year was a little better I made new friends who incidentally graduated that year I found out how comfortable it

was to wear sweat pants every day I worked my butt off to make sure my GPA was high enough for me to get into PSEO And

I got a B in Mrs Sirbaughrsquos Algebra One class Irsquod have to say however that my junior year has been the best so far I realized

I donrsquot need friends but itrsquos nice to have the ones that I do have I finally came out of my shell and realized that therersquos no

point in keeping to myself And I learned that just because I didnrsquot like the person didnrsquot mean I couldnrsquot have a nice

conversation with them

I can only imagine what my senior year will be like Itrsquos weird to think that almost exactly a year from now Irsquoll be

putting on my cap and gown and leaving this place forever I feel like freshman year was just yesterday It gives me a weird

sense of nostalgia which doesnrsquot make sense to me at all because as many good memories Irsquove made here the bad ones still

prevail Irsquom not talking about just during the school hours but also outside of them (Irsquove literally had at least one person in

my family die every year Irsquove been in high school) But maybe thatrsquos just a sign of change The death of a person is a huge

change in anyonersquos life especially when itrsquos a close relative And high school is a big change in life as well So maybe the

changes just go hand in hand

Itrsquos just odd to think of how much Irsquove changed from my freshman year to now The skinny jeans and pink hair

turned into dresses and heels The black nail polish was exchanged for pastel colors I unlaced my chucks and slipped on

some Sperryrsquos The layers of black eye shadow have turned into almost no make-up at all Instead of not talking to anyone

Irsquom not familiar with I smile and talk to almost anyone I see

Maybe some of it has to do with growing up Maybe some of it has to do with my having to have good social skills at

work I just canrsquot imagine how much Irsquoll change next year Change is scary but I think in my case itrsquos a good thing Irsquom still the

same person to an extent I think Irsquove just become a better version of myself

First let me say that I know as soon as you see Stephanie Meyerrsquos name in this review that you will think ldquoyuck Twilightrdquo and flip to the next page Please donrsquot because her novel The Host is honestly one of the best books I have ever read This novel has a futuristic plot where this alien-like species takes over the world by inserting their worm-like bodies in humans hence the title It features a human Melanie who becomes a host for an alien Unlike most of the predators she cannot get Melaniersquos voice and thoughts out of her head This causes the alien to have confusing human emotions and they set off into the woods to find a group of surviving humans that Melaniersquos Uncle saved Upon arrival

Melanie is tortured until her ex Jared kisses her and realizes that Melanie is still present in her body Both of the bodyrsquos occupants discover feelings for Jared but the alien also falls for another human survivor Now I know that yoursquore think this is another stupid love triangle However I can promise you that it is ten times more complex than a sparkly vampire expressionless girl and angry werewolfrsquos love interest fiasco The novel has a surprise ending that you will never see coming Also it is set to become a movie in 2013 I am begging you to give Stephanie Meyer another chance because there is nothing more relaxing than laying out on a summer day with a good book

So I hate to be the one to bring it up but itrsquos a topic that needs to be addressed I know that no one wants to talk about it but itrsquos something everyone deals with at one point or another As a journalist itrsquos my job to talk about the hard-hitting topics So here it is finals How does one get through the dreaded end of the year exams For me it includes lots of caffeine focus and music But it has to be the right music Whorsquos with me

First off I always need to have music playing when I study or when I have to do assignments But if I have a big test to study for I always seem to turn to more serene music I sometimes even turn to classical A couple issues back I mentioned an iPhone app called ldquo8tracksrdquo and there are some amazing studying playlists on there that I would recommend But if Irsquom going to listen to a band when I study I love listening to The Civil Wars Something about this bandrsquos lead duo is just so calming Their songs ldquoPoison and Winerdquo and ldquoFallingrdquo are perfect when you want something subtle playing in the background when yoursquore studying

I also love listening to classical music It helps me focus sometimes whenever itrsquos midnight and Irsquom falling asleep but I still need to study If you want to jump on the classical bandwagon like me my favorite composers to listen to are Chopin and Tchaikovsky Both of them are pretty well-known and have composed quite a lot so you should find some piece that will help you stay motivated If you type either of them into the Pandora or 8tracks apps I know you will get plenty of songs to listen to

So after the initial easy studying come the tiredness and the feeling of senioritis You know you have to stay motivated but most importantly you have to stay awake Therefore to reawaken your body you need a couple fun songs to listen to I recommend the song ldquoExpressrdquo from the movie Burlesque That song makes me want to dance like crazy Plus Christina Aguilerarsquos voice is phenomenal in itself Another favorite is the Glee Castrsquos cover of ldquoItrsquos Not Right But Itrsquos Okayrdquo by Whitney Houston Irsquom usually not a big fan when people cover amazing songs sung by amazing singers but Glee did it a lot of justice

Now when yoursquore at the final stretch of studying and you need something to keep you awake I have a few picks that get me through I always end up resorting to some classic music Personally I love the song ldquoGimme Gimme Gimmerdquo by ABBA or ldquoI Hate Myself for Loving Yourdquo by Joan Jett My logic behind this is that if these bands can get through having hair like thathellip I can study for another 30 minutes

So this is the end for me and this column for the year With this being the last issue out before summer time I just want to say that I hope you discovered at least one song you enjoy out of these writings for I have sincerely enjoyed writing them So when yoursquore studying for finals my advice to you is to down that

Summer swim is a program put on by the

St Clairsville Rec Center that takes place through

most of June and July The cost is $45 and anyone

between the ages of 5 and 18 can sign up at Allen

Pool May 29-30 or June 4-8 ldquoThe best part about

summer swim is hanging out with friends and

making memories at the meetsrdquo says Junior Ashley

Dunfee Summer swim is definitely a great way to

make new friends or spend time with old ones

while getting fresh air and exercise and keeping

cool at the same time

What have you done lately to help our community Maybe youve volunteered at your local hospital donated to chari-ty or maybe reffed a community soccer game it all adds up to helping out our community Saint Clairsville High School student council can proudly say they have taken action Over this past month of April the city of Saint Clairsville asked one of our teachers Ms Fitsimons if our high school student council and a few other helpful kids would participate in a bike trail clean up program This project was to get the bike trail ready and clean in time for the upcoming spring and summer On April 20th our student council took part in this clean up by shoveling mulch painted poles and picking up trash The project was a success and is now ready for the spring and summer The city and citizens really enjoy what you have done for our community

Do teachers really grade This is something many

students question Students are aware of what teachers do

grade and what teachers do not Determining if a teacher

does or not isnrsquot rocket science Teachers who promptly

grade and return papers obviously grade their papers and

manage their time well However some teachers take weeks

to return a simple assignment or even update their grades

online Students like teachers who do grade or donrsquot grade

and take advantage of either when the chance arises

Teachers who do not grade are easily spotted and

taken advantage of at every given opportunity Students all

have that one teacher that takes a million years to give

grades back or update even the simplest of grades If

teachers do this it does not necessarily mean they donrsquot

grade but when it takes this long for a simple book

assignment in which everyone receives the same grade it is

pretty obvious What is the point in giving assignments but

never grading them until a week before grades are do for

mid-terms or the end of the nine-weeks Lazy teachers are

bad teachers How is a student supposed to know how they

are performing in their classes if the grades are so out of

date Teachers guilty of this confuse students to no end and

donrsquot have any rhyme or reason to their madness and lack of

responsibility Teachers always preach how students have to

be more responsible but in all reality the teacher isnrsquot

showing responsibility on their part hypocrite

The end of the year is I here and nobody wants to be

here whatsoever Teachers why do you feel the need to try

and teach by cramming lessons in that you should have

taught throughout the year but failed to do so in the last few

weeks of school Those teachers who obviously do not grade

but assign busy work every day should realize that they have

to grade the work There are a few weeks left and the

teacher still feels the need to assign more work even though

grades havenrsquot been updated in a coonrsquos age I have the

solution for teachers guilty of this Tests quizzes and any

other assignment in the class should be multiple choice

Problem solved Grading multiple choice is rather easy

because the student either has it right or they donrsquot

Teachers grading isnrsquot a hard task if you manage

your time correctly It is a pet peeve to many students when

their grades are not up to date and are so out of date there

isnrsquot any room for even guessing their current grade If you

are going to be a teacher you have to grade The grading

process for essays can be long that is a given but promptly

returning papers is also effective in gaining the respect of

students

older wife Catherine of Aragon for Anne using the excuse that

she had been married to his brother Arthur before he died

the Pope creating the Church of England so he could marry

Anne But the day after she was dead he was engaged to Jane

Seymour and married to her shortly after

Annersquos siblings also had a lot to do with European

history Mary Boleyn Annersquos older sister was the Kingrsquos

mistress and it is rumored that her two children where the

Kingrsquos children George Boleyn on the other hand was a court

poet but was charged with incest with Anne which cannot be

considered fact since it was 476 years ago

Anne is very unknown in American history mainly

because she was a Queen in England and when you do read

about her they usually donrsquot mention her name Also what a

lot of people know about her is from The Other Boleyn Girl

and The Tudors both of which are works of fiction and people

take them as fact

In 2010 Claire Ridgeway author of The Anne Boleyn

Files and Elizabethan Files decided to make an Anne Boleyn

Day Every May 19 she would visit the Tower of London

where Annersquos memorial and body are Now she takes people

and talks about Anne and about the day

Senior year the year of last chances the year where

memories stay forever but repression may leave an

impression When school started I was already accepted into

college It wasnrsquot hard at all really Sadly enough many of my

friends had changed Some were cheating on their girlfriends

Others were leading guys on Some even started hanging out

with the wrong crowd It wasnrsquot all bad though

Some of my friends found true love good friends and

great opportunities I found all three of these Ashley Adams

and I have been dating for over a year and still going Her

friends along with my friends Travis Tyler Tom Rahul Chris

and Nick have been the best to me Even my job has perks I

made the Wilson Furniture website along with earning more

money than anyone in the school for it Though you canrsquot have

all sunny dayshellipa rainy day or two can change that

My girlfriend gave me quite a scare I was completely

devastated Then my one good friend is still being led on by

someone I thought was a friend but turned out to behellipwell I

canrsquot say here The senior year is meant to have good

memories something you want to tell your children but I want

to forget this year Times have changed indefinitely and every

Senior has started drama and this year is the worst yet

If you want advice then listen here if you start drama

then stop If you want to avoid it you will still start it Just lay

back and let things happen and Senior Year wonrsquot be as bad as

you think

Kody truly forgetting like a Senior

Itrsquos almost summertime and that means vacations sun and some summer lovinrsquo I hope you went to see the St Crsquos Players production of Grease because itrsquos the perfect example of a summer relationship gone bad then good then terrible and then finally great I have to admit that I was extremely surprised by the authenticity and talent in the musical I thought that because of Greasersquos mature content that the production would be toned down and lame I can gladly say that I was mistaken because the details big and small were great There were so many costume and prop changes that were very elaborate but also very fast The crew obviously put in hours of time and dedication There was especially one small detail that made the play for me It may seem silly to most but I really appreciated how almost every ribbon in the girl characterrsquos hair was changed along with every outfit The live music played during was also spectacular I had the honor of sitting in front of the band and like the crew it was evident that they practiced very hard and were excited to be doing it

Overall the whole thing completely blew me away and I hoped it gave you some tips for some summertime lovinrsquo The only thing that could have made it better would be casting Frankie Berardi as Danny Sorry Austin
