Celebration for Titan Seniors! Papillion La Vista South High School

8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. (approximately)

8:00 am – 9:00 am 1st and 2nd Periods 9:00 am – 9:45 am Senior Breakfast in the Titan Café 9:45 am Mandatory Graduation Rehearsal in the Titan Arena

Special activities will include: Senior Breakfast, Graduation Rehearsal, and the Class of 2016 video!

Senior Guidelines The following information will help guide you through the closing days of your senior year:

Return all books. All fines and fees, including library debts, must be paid before graduation. A check-out sheet must be turned in to the Guidance Department before you will be permitted to participate in Commencement.

You will begin check-out on Wednesday, May 11, during your 3rd hour class. You will check out of your 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th hour classes on that date. On Thursday, May 12, you will check out of your 1st and 2nd hour classes and proceed to the Fine Arts Hallway for check-out with your counselor. After breakfast, you will proceed to the Titan Arena for mandatory Graduation Commencement rehearsal. At this time, you will receive your cap and gown as well as any honor cords or tassels that need to be distributed.

REHEARSAL IS MANDATORY! Out of fairness to all seniors, everyone must be present to avoid confusion. This will be your only rehearsal. Only Mr. Johnson may excuse you from rehearsal.

Immediately following graduation rehearsal and the planned activities on Thursday, May 12, seniors must leave the building. School will still be in session and we must maintain an organized learning environment.

Lockers should be empty when you leave the building on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 10.

Any senior who does not comply with requirements for Commencement as outlined will NOT be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony as a member of the class, but will be given his/her diploma at Papillion La Vista South the week after graduation.

You will receive your cap and gown at rehearsal. Verify the fit of your cap and gown for size. Follow the instructions for removing wrinkles from the gown.

Wear lightweight clothing under your gown. Gowns are very warm. Dress in professional attire (dress slacks, dress shoes, collared shirt, tie for our gentlemen and dresses, skirts, dress slacks and dress shoes for our females). You MAY NOT wear flip flops, tennis shoes, jeans, shorts etc.! If you have questions please see an administrator prior to May 12, so we don’t have any problems the day of the event.

Put the cap on well forward, with the short point almost between your eyebrows. Caps should be flat on top.

Wear the tassel over your RIGHT eye.

Commencement Baxter Arena, 2425 S. 67th Street, Omaha 5:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15 Parking: Free (Use Lots 24, 25, and 26) Graduates should enter through the main entrance (facing Lot 25 and 26) and report to the Holland Community Ice room no later than 4:00 p.m. This will be the holding room. Attendance will be taken at 4:15 p.m.; then the graduates will line up for the processional. Out of courtesy for the graduates and their families as well as people with disabilities, hearing impairments, and service animals, we WILL NOT tolerate the use of noisemakers at graduation. People using noisemakers will be asked to leave immediately. Baxter Arena WILL search bags of both the graduates as well as others in attendance. Processional The Commencement processional will start promptly at 5:00 p.m. Program After arriving at his/her seat, each graduate will remain standing throughout the Posting of the Colors, the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem. Recessional Upon completion of the declaration by the School Board President, the graduates remain standing and the band will begin the recessional music. (This procedure will be practiced at rehearsal.) All graduates will return to the Holland Community Ice room (holding room) at Baxter Arena for diploma distribution. Only seniors will be allowed in this room. After seniors pick up their diploma, they will be released to find their parents and friends for photos. All seniors will keep their cap and gown.

Commencement Pictures If you would like to purchase a professional photo of your student receiving their diploma, you may place your order with Hassel Photography, (402) 290-7775. They will take an individual picture of each graduate receiving their diploma. Information flyers are also available. Parents and friends of the graduates will not be allowed on the main floor of the Baxter Arena. Since seniors keep their caps and gowns, there will be numerous photo opportunities before and after the ceremony. Only seniors will be allowed in the Holland Community Ice room (holding room) of the Baxter Arena before and after the ceremony for security reasons. Thank you for your cooperation. Lost Articles Papillion La Vista South High School is not responsible for lost or stolen articles at the Baxter Arena. PLEASE do not leave purses, keys, or anything of value at the Baxter Arena. Special Seating Special seating will be available for family members with disabilities. This area are located at the top of the main stairs of the Baxter Arena and is accessible via the elevator. Seating is available all the way around the Baxter Arena. No special tickets are needed, simply speak with an usher. Live Streaming and DVD For those family and friends who are not able to attend the Graduation Ceremony, live streaming will be available. The broadcast will begin about 20 minutes before the ceremony and can be accessed at www.monarchbroadcasting.com . DVDs will also be available for $25. Order forms are available in our front office. Another option for the DVD is to have it personalized with the student’s name, for an additional $5. Pre-orders are preferred but orders will also be taken on site at graduation.
