� More than 600 colleges accept and prefer the Common App, including SUNY Schools
The Common Application includes:

Family Section Activities Section
Education Section Writing Section
� Many schools will require a supplement in the form of short answers and/or additional essays. The supplements can be accessed on the Common App.

Keep in Mind…� Colleges prefer applications to be processed
online.
� If a school does not use the Common App, their online application can be accessed through their individual websites.
� Very few schools still use paper applications only.

Student Resume� Seniors should prepare a student resume.
� Examples of student resumes are included in their senior packet
� Indicate an intended major or area of interest, including undecided (this is not binding!)
� Counselors will refer to the resume to write a more informative letter of recommendation
� Allows for easy data entry when students complete the activities section on their application
� Used as a reference for scholarship considerations

Transcript Request Form� A transcript request form must be completed for each
school a student is applying to.
� Completing the form guarantees that supporting documents, transcripts, profile, and letters of recommendation will be sent to colleges on a timely basis
� If we do not get this form, we will not be able to help complete applications.
� Request forms must be submitted by appointment only at least 3 week prior to deadline.

Letters of Recommendation
� Please check with the colleges to which you are applying. Colleges typically require one or two letters. Some require no letters at all.
� Students must get a verbal agreement from a teacher before formally requesting a letter on Naviance.
� Teachers write only one letter for each student. The same letter is sent to all colleges.
� Teacher letters are uploaded to Naviance

Parent “Brag Sheet”
� Located in the Senior Packet is the Parent“Brag Sheet.”
� This is an opportunity to provide helpful information for your child’s Counselor.
� Please fill out the form and return to your child’s Counselor.

Standardized Test Scores
� Test scores will not appear on the transcript.� Scores can be unofficially self reported directly on the
applications� Students must officially send their scores to the college
directly from the testing agency.� Testing requirements can be located on the school’s website,
common application, or http://www.compassprep.com/subject-test-requirements-and-recommendations/
� Growing number of schools are testing optional: www.fairtest.org
