Most Influential

12

One of the most influential things in my life has to have been my experience in Drum Line. It has taught me how to strive for excellence even when you want to nothing but to give up. When the blisters on your feet are hurting so bad and your hands feel nothing but pain I learned how to push through that and that has made me stronger as a person. It has also given me the opportunity to become the leader I have always wanted to be. For most of my life I have always just been the one to follow directions, but there I can lead. I can help teach the next generation of kids what to do and how to do it right.

I can also see the skills band has taught me outside of practice. Those if I opened it, close it. If I got it, put it up. Those if I broke it, fix it or take the blame. But these apply everywhere. It’s the right thing to do and if it weren’t for the life lessons the Fishers tiger band has taught me, I don’t know if I would have learned them. If it weren’t for band, I wouldn’t have become the man I am today.

The Job of a Friend.

I have always done my absolute best to be there for the people that need me. The roll of a friend

is one I think I do the best at. There’s nothing nicer than knowing that someone’s there for you when you

need it the most. It’s important to have people like this in your life, everyone knows that. Sometimes life

really sucks, when I’m having a bad day all I want to do is surround myself with people that care. I

always feel better once I’m with people than I do by myself.

Being the friend does have advantages and disadvantages. Guys especially my age obviously

do their best to look good for the girls. Some guys try to act mean to try to attract girls, while some guys

friend-zone themselves. This always isn’t a bad thing; some of my best friends are girls! But sometimes

you don’t want to be “just friends”, and at that point it’s hard to stay friends when all you want to be is

more than that. But in the end you would do anything for them because just being a friend is a part of

the job. Being the friend isn’t always for everyone but I know that it’s the easiest for me. (206)

Special Memories

Some memories come and go, but the memories that leave scars tend to last a little longer. I remember it like it was yesterday. I was doing exactly what every parent or teacher tells you not to do, I was leaning back in my chair. Before this day I thought that it was all just some bull hockey that our parents tell us so we wouldn’t get hurt. In the end it turned out they had their reasons. Why I pushed too hard is a mystery.

I fell backwards in the chair hitting my head on the floor. I had bitten through my lip when I hit the ground. My parents rushed me to the emergency Room with lightning speed. And for a seven year old, ten stiches on the face was a pretty big battle wound. My parents to this day still make fun of me. While I was receiving the actual stiches, I guess I was crying so hard the doctor had to get earplugs. But hey, I was seven years old and I had just bitten through my lip! I guess you can say I was a little freaked out. I still think it’s funny how we carry some memories on us. My memory sits right under my lip to this day. (215)

My time at Fishers high School will forever be some of the greatest times in my short life. We spend four short years making friends, influencing others, and shaping our futures for something greater than ourselves. Now a day I often wonder, where am I going to be later in life? How am I even going to get there? Or the most interesting question, how are people going to remember me? Wasting away the majority of my High School career, I doing what I thought was going to make me cool. I ended up trying to please others more than myself. Later on I found out that my grades were not the best and it was because I was putting my status above my education and that the whole reason I’m here, to receive an education.

Finally, it came to the point of no return. I couldn’t waste my time trying to be something I wasn’t. I wasn’t happy and it’s not exactly how I wanted to be remembered. I stopped buying what everyone was currently warring or what was currently trending and I did what made me happy. Surprisingly, I’ve made some of my closest friends that way. People that I know will remember me in 20 years. At Fishers High School I want to be remembered as someone who always put forth the most effort even when times were rough. My senior year is coming to an end; let’s see what I can do. (284)

Meaning of Life.

Life, such a silly game we all play. For some, life can be what ever we make of it. For others, we may be stuck in a life that we necessarily don’t enjoy. It comes down to trial and error. Learning from past mistakes and creating new ones. Life wouldn’t be the same without those mistakes that make us human. The saddest thing people learn in the end is that money is only just paper, yet it consumes our lives. We spend the majority of it trying to gain worldly possessions instead of memories. In the end all you have is memories. When you’re old and wrinkly you won’t give a crap about the car you drive or the clothes you ware, but whom you spent those years with. The people you invest your time with will stay with you forever.

Personally, I believe that the meaning of life is what ever you make of it. Whether it’s doing what you love or loving what you do. I find the most peace being outdoors. If I’m inside for too long I start to get a tad anxious. If I could, I would spend the rest of my life outdoors. In the end, the meaning of life for me is experiencing new things. Trying something new may be scary but you’ll never know what you enjoy until you try it.

Moments Define Me.

There are always moments that we experience growing up, but nothing defines teenagers as much as graduation. Even though I haven’t quite experienced it yet I think that being this close to freedom, we should be able to talk about it. Ever since we started first grade, graduation has been the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve always imagined what it will be like. Walking across the stage, tossing my hat in the air, and celebrating of course. Thinking that the rest of my life starts in only a few short weeks is a scary thing to embrace, but nonetheless it is something I think everyone and their mother is excited to graduate.

Moments always become memories way too fast so I really try to take in the most of the situations life throws at me. We only get one senior year and I couldn’t be happier that what this year has brought me. Through the friends I made and the experiences I’ve had it will truly be a year I wont ever forget. (206)

Future Goals

For a while now, my passion for music has been really strong. And don’t get me wrong, it still is. To this day I still can’t believe that I stayed in Marching Band my whole high school career. I have always wanted to stay in the activity because of that. A lot of people think that their isn’t much work within the field of music but in all seriousness music doesn’t only limit to the performance aspect, there are tons of jobs you an find yourself in just by seeking them.

Because I have surrounded myself in the percussive arts for so long I hope one day I can find a job doing something in that activity. Being a Percussion director at a high school would be the ultimate goal for me. In order to teach you have to put yourself through college with a major in music ed. and a minor in music performance usually. The one problem I have with that is that most of the music majors I know are no longer in the program because they said that it’s impossible to do all the practicing and homework required and still have a life. As discouraging as this is to hear, I still think I should learn for myself and try. (233)

Newspaper Reflection

Luscombe, Belinda. "Pop Culture Finds Lost Boys." Time. Time, 2 Feb. 2007. Web. 20 May 2013.

I think that this story Is special because how many times do we hear about the good that pop culture has brought to us. Nowadays pop culture has been a way to make people think that they have to look a certain way or act a certain way in order to be cool. I think that this is a cool way of showing that pop culture saved this boys life and reconnected him with his family after everything they went through, and to me that rare in todays times. When people work together to help someone out is really special and should be reconized.

The one thing that makes this different from most stories is that beah didn’t give up hope even in his darkest hour. Just imagine, if you were a child soldier at the age of 13, no family, what would you do? Would you continue your dream of continueing music despite the constant fear of death? Would you run for your life? I know that I wouldn’t possibley have the courage to deal with something like that. The fact that this boy did it at 13 is a miracle to me. If I was half that strong I think I could conqure anything. (206)

Magazine Reflection

Gustin, Sam. "Gambling on Tumblr: Marissa Mayer’s Billion-Dollar Bet to Make Yahoo Cool." Business Money Gambling on Tumblr Marissa Mayers BillionDollar Bet to Make Yahoo

business.time.com/2013/05/20/bubble-what-bubble-marissa-mayer-bets-1-1-billion-that-tumblr-can-make-yahoo-cool-

Recently, the popular website Tumblr was sold to Yahoo for a total of 1.1 billion dollars. Compared to the 13 Million that Tumblr was generating a year, 1.1 billion sounds like a nice payday. Tumblr employs a little over a hundred and twenty people so and yahoo still plans to keep its same employees. Tumblr Hold 108.4 million blogs and has over 50.9 billion posts. It gives you the opportunity to have your own website with a custom theme that suits you. The company is run by 26 year-old David Karp and was started in 1986. Tumblr is a point blank example of micro blogging and has been since it began. Although it is a micro blog, it’s still considered a social network.

The overall interface of the website allows you to be as creative as you like. Most of the users are shown to be among the younger population so pop culture influences a lot of what gets shared around. You can post anything to tumblr, videos, GIF’s, pictures, music, you can also write out posts as well. Among most social media, Tumblr has stayed pretty well hidden from most people and most tumblr users are happy about that. Me included, users are happy with the way tumblr functions so hearing that Yahoo bought the name scares everyone. But I don’t think Yahoo plans on changing to much so that’s a little comforting. Art Reflection

This piece of art is important because it really shows what we actually are made of. Were not just all meat, over half of our body’s are made of water. We know that water is vital to survive, and we know that going without it usually ends in death. Dehydration can lead to headaches, fatigue. We are very complex individuals but yet we forget that everyone is the same on the inside. Nobody can live without water. This picture is rather minimalistic compared to most, and it does a good job of showing how minimalistic water is as well.

I like the idea of the picture, but I also just really like the picture in general. It isn’t too flashy and doesn’t let your mind over think too much about the main idea is of the piece. Art will be what ever you make of it. For some, they can look at this piece and think about something completely different. Minimalistic art like this can let your mind wonder but the title really steers you to the right path. I look at this picture and it makes me wonder how exactly did we end up being made of water. But in the end it is who we are and makes us, us. (212)

Art Reflection 2 The Shower

By: G.C. Cuevas

This picture is funny to me because it’s a tribute to Psycho. The movie came out in 1960 and was directed by Alfred Hitchcock. As one of the first scary movies, Psycho changed the scary movie industry for forever. This movie was insanely popular because it was one of the first movies that were required to warn the audience that it would be graphic. The movie is about a couple that move to this house and feel as though they are being watched. The most famous part in the movie is the shower scene where Mrs. Bates is murdered.

This Picture is iconic because thorough the whole movie you never get to see the killer, this causes suspense throughout the movie. I chose this picture because in the movie you can only imagine who the killer is. The artist still doesn’t even know and you can tell. The artist depicts the killer as a shadow and he looks almost ghoulish. This picture really keeps the theme of the movie alive by not showing the killer and I think that is really interesting. Overall, movies like Psycho are what inspired a lot of movies that are produced even today. (198)

Time Capsule 1. My iPhone

Your phone resembles a big part of who you are. You hold it close like your life depends on it. I might find this in the future and remember all the good times that I had with it. All those conversations, pictures, music; it really resembles who I was.

2. A pair of drum sticks

I would add this item because of its importance during my high school career. I can’t even begin to explain how much money I’ve wasted on sticks in the past seven years. I’m always looking to buy new junk so it’s ok. I hope drumming is a passion of mine even when I’m older.

3. My State Champion medal

It will be a day I know I won’t forget. I always hoped that I would win a state championship my whole high school career. Everyone in our ensemble worked so hard all season and it really paid off. It would defiantly be nice to pick it up in the future and remember those good times.

4. The right shoe from my first pair of Vans

I honestly don’t know why I picked the right shoe. But I wore those shoes every day for the longest time. I still ware them every now and then. They’re so beat up and old but It really shows how much I used them and all the places that they went.

5. A Strawberry Arnold Palmer

Recently I have discovered the greatness that is strawberry Arnold Palmer. Ever since Cody Cheung let me try it I have been wasting my money on these bad boys. In the future, I can’t wait to be able to open my capsule and crack open and drink one of these.

Top Ten List Items: Phone, Car, Laptop, Pizza, Friends, Playstation, Internet, Pants, Glasses, Headphones 1. My Phone- It’s the first thing I use every day. My phone is a useful tool in a lot of ways. It

wakes me up in the morning and reminds me what I need to do that day. My phone also holds all my music so that’s very important to me too. I use it to talk to my friends and stay in touch with my parents. By far one of the most important things I own.

2. My Car- When I first got my license; I was driving a beat up Ford Taurus. Let’s just say that I have gladly upgraded since. But just having a car is what’s important. Having my own car has made my life so much easier compared before when I had to have my parents take me everywhere.

3. My Laptop- Just recently I had finally gotten my first real laptop. Since then it has helped

me out a ton. From being able to type my papers all on in one place, to having my iTunes library all organized has brought ease to my education.

4. Pizza- it might be crazy, but I love pizza more than most people. Its one of those things that I

could eat everyday and be totally fine with it. I really am picky about the kind of pizza I like but I’m always willing to try something new at the same time.

5. My friends- my friends are always there for me and I don’t know what I would do without

them. If I’m having a bad day, good day, whatever the mood, my friends are apart of my everyday routine. Just having people to talk to about things is one of the best feelings in the world.

6. My PlayStation- because without it, I would have way too much free time. Let’s think

about this, my PlayStation has my Netflix account on it. I use it almost every day before I go to bed. Sometimes it’s nice to watch some TV before bed to help me go to sleep. It was defiantly worth the purchase.

7. The Internet- My life, and everyone’s lives would be dramatically different without the

Internet. Because of this invention, it has been so much easier to explore foreign topic’s we might not know about. So it is vital to me on a daily biases to have the Internet available to me.

8. Pants- See, without pants life would be awkward. Everyone would be naked and I don’t

think anyone has time for that. If it weren’t for pants, we would also be very cold. I think we underestimate our pants too much.

9. My glasses- I don’t really think about how much I use my glasses to see. Most of the time I

just forget that their on my face but when they’re gone I’m hell bent on finding them. I use to ware my glasses for like reading mostly, but my vision has strained since then and now I need them 100% of the time.

10. Headphones- It’s always when you need them you don’t have them. For me that’s all the

time. Every time I’m in school and we have a bit of down time it’s always nice to take out some headphones and listen to some music. This year was the first year we were allowed to listen to music and I feel it has helped a lot.
