2021 Seniors Week Program

Message from the MayorI would like to extend a very warm welcome to Seniors Week 2021! We’re over the moon to welcome back this important event, and yet another great program of activities.

Kick starting with two great events at the Queens Park Theatre, Friends of the QPT will host a Seniors Film on Friday 5 November – showing “Then Came You”. On Monday 8 November, the QPT will be shakin’ as Morning Melodies presents the ‘Australian Blues Brothers Seniors Week Concert’. The week will then offer all sorts of activities from workshops, afternoon and morning teas, have-a-go sessions and much more. I will be back to host one of my favourite events – the Mayor’s Mystery Bus Tour! This tour is a great way to get out and see the latest and greatest happening in Geraldton.

Seniors Week will conclude with a Multicultural Concert hosted by our

friends at the Midwest Multicultural Association. Tickets are just $5 and you’ll be transported to at least eight different countries – all in one afternoon. There will be music, dance and lots of cultural culinary delights! Make sure you register and book tickets where possible for the events throughout the week – as available spots don’t last long.

Seniors Week is all about celebrating and acknowledging the invaluable contribution our seniors make to our community and I hope you all enjoy coming together for this important occasion.

5.30pm The Friends of the Queens Park Theatre present Then Came YouNibbles at 5.30pm, followed by the movie commencing at 6.00pm at the Queens Park Theatre. Tickets are available from the Civic Centre, Geraldton Regional Library, Geraldton Visitor Centre or online www.queensparktheatre.com.au

MONDAY 8 NOVEMBER

10am Morning Melodies present Australian Blues Brothers Seniors Week Opening ConcertYou’ll certainly be ‘Shakin’ your Tail Feather’ when Jake & Ellwood Blues hit the stage backed by live musicians with this all singing, all dancing revue of Blues Brothers. The Seniors’ Concert starts at 10am with a special morning tea. The performance commences at 11am sharp and is 60 minutes long, without interval. Tickets are available from the Civic Centre, Geraldton Regional Library, Geraldton Visitor Centre or online wwwqueensparktheatre.com.auCost $25

TUESDAY 9 NOVEMBER

9.30am-10.30am Free Card Making WorkshopCome along and make your very own personalised cards! Presented by Tanya Yakisch with all materials supplied. QEII Seniors & Community Centre. Free event

1pm Quiz Afternoon Make up your own table of six or join in with others. Great prizes and door prize. Includes afternoon tea. QEII Seniors & Community Centre. Hosted by the Geraldton Seniors Week Committee. Bookings are essential. Cost $5

7.15am Walk and BreakfastMeet at the QEII Seniors & Community Centre for a walk to the foreshore followed by a cooked breakfast at the QEII Centre at 8am. Hosted by the Geraldton Seniors Week Committee. Bookings are essential. Cost $10

9.30am –11.30am Have a Go at Croquet Equipment and Morning tea provided. Maitland Street. Contact Kay, Club Coach on 0407 196 621.Cost $5

10am Sun City Christian Centre Open Day Tour of Community Gardens and Facilities in Assen Street followed by brunch at 11:00am. Bus pick up available if needed from the QEII Seniors & Community Centre at 9:30am and drop off will be between 12 noon and 12:30pm. Bookings are essential for catering purposes.Free event

1pm Have a Go at Outdoor Bowls Enjoy a game of Outdoor Bowls and afternoon tea. Hosted by Wonthella Bowling Club, Eighth Street.Cost $5

FRIDAY 12 NOVEMBER

9am Mayor’s Mystery Bus Tour Join us for a tour of Geraldton with City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn followed by morning tea at the QEII Seniors & Community Centre. The 2022 Geraldton Seniors Directory will be officially launched by Margaret Pike from the Inner Wheel Club of Geraldton at this event. Bookings are essential. Free event

SUNDAY 14 NOVEMBER

2pm Multicultural Concert By the Midwest Multicultural AssociationBe transported to at least eight different countries in one afternoon. Enjoy music, song and dance that will titillate your senses and get your toes tapping. Allow your taste buds to travel to distant lands with a cultural afternoon tea.
