Seniors’ Centre Without Walls (SCWW): INFO

What is SCWW? It is a free telephone program that offers recreation activities, health & wellness seminars, educational series and general conversations to seniors and adults with physical disabilities who find it difficult to access regular community centres in person or who may not be able to leave home for extended periods of time.

How do you register? You can register as a client over the phone with the coordinator

You may register for programs at any time

How does it work? We use a teleconferencing (multi-person) phone system, which allows you to connect

with the facilitator of the program, as well as the other participants calling into the same program.

On the time and day of the program you will call into the session using the toll-free number, and will be joined into the phone session.

You will be able to hear and speak with the group and facilitator.

What if I am unable to call into the program on my own? If you are unable to call into the program using the steps, we can call you directly into the phone program. It would be very similar to just receiving a phone call from a friend!

Is there a cost? No– all programming is free of charge, and participants call into a toll-free line. No special equipment is needed. All you need is your own phone!

I am very passionate in advocating for seniors and for those with disabilities, and look forward to working with an organization that provides multiple services and programs that meet the needs of all abilities and interests.

I have previous experience in working with non-profit organizations, and have always admired the work that they do for the community. Slavery in Canada

Most Canadians hear the word “slavery” and think of our American neighbours and their history of slavery, African people being stolen from their home land and forced into unpaid labour, abused, bought and sold like cattle. Many Canadians never think of ourselves having been a participant of this economy but we were, and not in the heroic, Canada saved the runaway slave via the Underground Railway. Before we abolished slavery in this country there were violations towards people such as Africans as well as Canadian Aboriginals. Find out more on this less well know history in Canada.
