Once upon a time there was a shepherd looking after his sheep on the sideof a deserted road. Suddenly, a brand new Jeep screeches to a halt next tohim. The driver - a young man dressed in a suit, shoes, sunglasses, - getsout and asks the shepherd, 'If I guess how many sheep you have, will yougive me one of them?'The shepherd looks at the young man, then looks at the grazing sheep andreplies, 'Okay.' The young man parks his car and connects his notebook tothe Internet. He logs in to the NASA website, scans the ground using hisGPS, opens a database and prints out a report on his portable printer. Heturns to the shepherd and says, 'You have 1586 sheep here.' The shepherdanswers, 'That's correct, you may have your sheep.'The young man takes his animal and puts it in the back of his Jeep. Theshepherd looks at the young man and says, 'If I guess your profession, willyou return the animal to me?'

'Yes, why not.''You are a consultant.''That's amazing, how did you know?''Very simple,' answers the shepherd. 'First, you come here without beingcalled. Second, you charge me for something I already knew and third, youdon't understand anything about my business. Now can I have my sheep

    back?'

    Belongingness comes with

    commitment

The quality of a person's life is in direct

proportion to their commitment to excellence,

regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.

There are only two options regarding

commitment. You're either in or out. There's no

such thing as a life in-between.

    Commitment

Commitment is generally referred to as an enduring

    desire to maintain a relationship

The concept of commitment is similar to the concept

of a long-term orientation that comprises the desire andutility of a buyer to have a long-term relationship with a

    seller

Stronger the commitment, the more likely is to

overcome potential obstacles in the employer-employee

    relationship, resulting in employee loyalty.

    Commitment

The mother of the bride did not look happy at thewedding Mass or at the reception which followed. Before the newly married couple could leave fortheir honeymoon, she asked to see his son-in-law

in private. It turned out that she wanted him to sign an unusual

delivery receipt, on which she had written thefollowing words:

"Received from Mrs. Barbara Wallace her daughterAlice who is in good working condition."

    "NO RETURN, NO EXCHANGE."

Why I should alone be committed to the

    organisation?

Never become discouraged with the seemingsmallness of your task, job, or life. Clingfast to the words of Edward Everett

    I am only one,

But still I am one.I cannot do everything,

But still I can do something. And because I cannot do everything

I will not refuse to doThe something that I can do.

The key to accomplishment is believing that

what you can do will make a difference.

    Organisational Culture

Concept of organisational culture and sharedvalues as a means of analysing the internal

    operating environment

A family dimension in the ownership and

    management.

The shared values of a sense of belonging,

honesty, loyalty, trust and respect will

automatically follow the family culture within an

    organisation.

    .our role

would your focus be the lumps, bumps, and

unfairness, or are you committed to dwell on

those things that are good, right, and lovely?

    .what we need?

    Wranglers and Stranglers

  • 7/31/2019 Sense of Belongingness

    21/25

    .what we need?

Talent between the two? Probably the same.

Level of education? Not much difference.

But the Stranglers strangled, while theWranglers were determined to give each other a

    lift.

The Stranglers promoted an atmosphere ofcontention and self doubt. The Wranglers

highlighted the best, not the worst.

Lets have the feeling of togetherness

Togetherness is a feeling. A feeling whichgives happiness, warmth, confidence,

assurance and above all a sense of

    belongingness.

Human beings owe their existence and

survival to this very feeling. Right from the

womb of his mother, a child is deeply and

strongly associated with this feeling of

togetherness. After his birth, he finds

peace and strength in the presence of his

mother, father, grand parents, siblings, relatives and friends. This togetherness

is to be realised even in our world of

work, in the organisation in which we

    are working for.
