Biosensors allow the analysis of complex biological media. The detection of a large number of compounds is of great relevance, not only for scientific research but also for process control in the chemical and food industry. It is also useful in healthcare for the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of diseases. The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries greatly desire frequent to continuous analysis of biological media.

In collaboration with Jobst Technologies GmbH, IST AG produces and develops biosensors de-signed to measure the concentration of glucose, lactate, glutamine, pyruvate and glutamate. The biosensors use the enzymatic-amperometric measurement principle. They rely on immobilized enzymes to detect the target analytes with high specificity and reliability. The immobilization system used enables the setting of parameters such as sensitivity and measuring range, thus meeting the requirements of various applications and customers. Furthermore, the technology is compatible with gamma and beta irradiation.

UNIQUE FEATURES OF OUR BIOSENSORS

• Continuous monitoring• Operational stability• Multi-analyte• Biocompatible materials• Micro-miniaturized• Ultra-low flow-rates• Factory calibration• µFluidics integrated• Particle tolerant

• Whole blood / native broth• Repeated drying/wetting• Fast response• Quick hydration• Dry storage• Blank electrode use• Zero-intercept• Almost no interferences• Technological flexibility

B.LV5 BIOSENSOR - PERFORMANCE

Biosensor array response to analyte solutionTo demonstrate the independency of the biosensor signals, each type of biosensor was ad-dressed subsequently with its analyte in the concentration, which was used in the mixture. The measurement shown started with a mixture of 5 mM glucose, 2mM lactate, 1 mM gluta-mine, and 0.2 mM glutamate (µM scale on the right side).

B.LV5 BiosensorFlow-through biosensor for multi-parametric measurements (up to four different analytes).

B.LV5 BIOSENSOR - APPLICATION EXAMPLE

The B.LV5 biosensor is used, among other things, for glucose and lactate measurement in intensive care. A specific example is explained below.

EirusTM by MaquetIn this application the B.LV5 biosensor monitors two analytes simultaneously: glucose and lactate. Samples are analyzed every second and data is updated onscreen (at least every minute), numerically and as a trend curve avoiding gaps in the trend.

Accuracy glucose: According to ISO15197-2003, Clarke Error Grid Analysis; 97.7%-99% in area A, 100% in area A+B.

Accuracy lactate: 1609 paired sam-ples were obtained in patients.Correlation coefficient was 91%, Bland-Altman: 0.02 mmol/L3.
