SEPARATENESS versus CONNECTION

Fish street, remains of Kras factory, Mendel Square, Wenceslas street, Little America, Main Railway Station, rebuilded Vaňkovka factory, derelict buildings of Vlňena factory, Svitava mill race. Thus sorted, brown�elds create a simple route, on which the industrial history of Brno has throbbed, the route once connected by millrace, but today sharply separated by tra�c arteries. All these areas lies on one axis, but are perceived and addressed separately, without connection to the territory, which was shaped by them. Let these areas have the "spine'' again, a ''spine'' on which these places can grow and prosper again.

CHARACTERISTIC OF AREA

Staré Brno is already rather residential area, but it still has many areas of brown�elds with the represen-tation of light industry. Area of Trnitá represents the largest area for development in the vicinity of the center, but with very poor permeability and attractiveness. I therefore propose to the two main avenues / routes that connect di�erent areas and allow its further development.

NORTHERN ROUTE

Until the mid-twentieth century the millrace �owed through the territory of Old Brno and Trnitá. The millrace was burried after second world war. Element that connected the Old Brno with Trnitá has disappeared. But the track of the millrace remained imprinted in the territory.

On the approximate route of the former millrace the new northern route is proposed. It will reconnects once again the exhibition grounds, area of former Kras factory, Mendel square, southern edge of Saint Anna hospital, area of former textile labs, Hybešova street, small square at the end of Nové sady, area south of Main Railway station and abandoned buildings of Vlněna factory.

Northern route with a typical stony riverbed element referring to the now lost millrace, but allowing its recovery in the form of recreation after completeness of reconnection of all areas.

SOUTHERN ROUTE

Křídlovická is one of the oldest streets in Brno. Nowadays it lacks its original center - Křídlovice, which was tore down. However, it has a new center, in place of the original one - Rondo Hall.Southern route will connect the quieter part of the Staré Brno : Hybešova street, Mendel Square, Wenc-eslas and the Křídlovická street , Rondo Hall , main bus station - Zvonařka and former Vlňena factory - where it will join the northern route.

ROUTE

Route is designed primarily for pedestrians and cyclists. Mode of car transport mode is changed from transit to the destination driven. This is a route where sidewalks are wide, where cyclist passes without being compromised by car, where the locals could park, where the cars will not only drive to its distant destination. Route full of greenery to the delight of its inhabitants, route with alleys and front gardens.
