FROM THE

COUNTY ECUMENICAL OFFICER

Greetings,

It seems to me that for many churches the

month of September brings what appears to be

the “start of the new term” with congregations

returning to normal once the new school year

commences. I am certainly reminded by my

diary this year of the commencement of new

things with a number of appointments to attend

the Induction Services for clergy being

welcomed into new ministries. A real sense of

anticipation always accompanies these new

beginnings.

This year I have visited two ecumenically

motivated Children’s Holiday Clubs, the energy

and motivation of these events is always

amazing with so many volunteers committed to

make the week a success. These are wonderful

examples of Christians working together for the

benefit of the whole community. A great big

Thank You to all involved many folk giving up a

week of their own holiday.

A reminder that this years CTiB VISION DAY

takes place on Saturday 16th October, the focus

is “celebrating Good News”. Please make certain

that the Poster and Registration Form are on

BUCKINGHAM CHILDREN’S HOLIDAY CLUB’

‘IS THIS MESSY CHURCH?’

From 2nd to 6th August nearly 70 young people (11-

14yrs) descended upon the Royal Latin School which

had been transformed into Venue 2 of Buckingham's

annual Holiday Club. The week's theme was

"Discover the truth behind the mystery", with each

day focussing on a different aspect of Jesus - as King,

Teacher, Servant, Son of God & Saviour. Each day

consisted of some extremely messy games, a variety

of crafts, times of worship and teaching and

discussion in small groups.

The week was extremely successful with nearly 40

Bibles given away, and around 30 young people

made a commitment at the end of the week.

CT FOR CHESHAM

PARTY IN THE PARK

Party in the Park organised by Churches Together for

Chesham. Central feature was a programme of well

known hymns and songs from the shows led by the

Chrysalis Community Choir, conductor Mandy

Dunstall. Master of ceremonies was Rev Philip

Thomas, pastor of Broadway Baptist Church. Stalls

included a Fairtrade stall offering delicious afternoon

teas, face painting for children, juggling lessons with

Mark Thomas and an ever popular bouncy castle.

The event took place on Sunday 18th July, a lovely

sunny afternoon. It attracted around 250 people..

CTfC Chairman Bill Reynolds said “We’ve held a Songs

of Praise in the park for several years but this year we

broadened it out to include extra features and it

proved very successful.
