Leader:

The word guru is a Sanskrit word derived from gu (darkness), and ru (light). Teacher is someone who inspires, encourages and guides one to be capable enough to face all the odds of life. Teaching is one of the noblest professions on earth and was a revered profession in ancient gurukul system in India. The quality of education in any educational institution hinges on the availability and resourcefulness of good teachers. A good teacher not only shows the right path for the students to follow but also prepares them to be resourceful for further development of self and the nation.

Dear teachers sometimes people have ignored and forgotten who you really are, your dedication, passion, creativity and service as a teacher. For every child who needs someone to believe in one’s potential, there is a teacher who will do whatever it takes to encourage, motivate, challenge, engage

and instill a love for learning. For every teacher who inspires and builds a better future for all with one child at a time, we salute and thank you.

We are here today to thank God for bestowing on you the privilege of moulding the minds and shaping the character of the wards in your care. Today we celebrate your presence and power as a Teacher of our institution.

Reader 1: God created teachers in His wisdom and grace, to help students learn to make their world a better and wiser place.  Teachers inspire a love of knowledge and truth as they guide learner’s thoughts and light their path leading to the goal.

Ritual A: Visuals on the Heart of a Teacher - http://youtu.be/QDVECWcYtjcalong with the song from "Taare Zameen Par" http://youtu.be/PMBetSreYRc

The Heart of a Teacher by Paula Fox

The child arrives like a mystery box...with puzzle pieces insidesome of the pieces are broken or missing...and others just seem to hide

But the HEART of a teacher can sort them out...and help the child to seethe potential for greatness he has within...a picture of what he can be

Her goal isn't just to teach knowledge...by filling the box with more partsit's putting the pieces together...and creating a work of art

The process is painfully slow at times...some need more help than otherseach child is a work in progress...with assorted shapes and colors

First she creates a classroom...where the child can feel safe in schoolwhere he never feels threatened or afraid to try...and kindness is always the rule

She knows that a child can achieve much more when he feels secure insidewhen he's valued and loved...and believes in himself...and he has a sense of pride

She models and teaches good character...and respect for one anotherhow to focus on strengths...not weaknesses and how to encourage each other

She gives the child the freedom he needs...to make choices on his ownso he learns to become more responsible...and is able to stand alone

He's taught to be strong and think for himself...as his soul and spirit healand the puzzle that's taking shape inside...has a much more positive feel

The child discovers the joy that comes...from learning something new...and his vision grows as he begins to see all the things that he can do

A picture is formed as more pieces fit...an image of the child withinwith greater strength and confidence...and a belief that he can win!

All because a hero was there...in the HEART of a teacher who caredenabling the child to become much more...than he ever imagined...or dared

A teacher with a HEART for her children...knows what teaching is all aboutshe may not have all the answers...but on this...she has no doubt

When asked which subjects she loved to teach, she answered this way and smiled..."It's not the subjects that matter...It's all about teaching the CHILD."

Reader 2: Let us now listen to the Scripture Reading: Mt 5: 14 – 16

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp, and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Reader 3:

Dear teachers you are more important than what you teach because you have the passion to make your pupils to scholars. You educate to enlighten, inspire and empower and not just teach to give information, for education is the kindling of a flame and not the filling of a vessel.

Dear teachers you make a difference, as you develop students who can create their own image and hence experience the joy of discovering their potential. You reach out to each child to become the next great teacher, author, artiste, scientist, architect, musician, doctor, engineer and leader.

Like a candle you burn yourself to spread the light of your knowledge, wisdom and love. You are content to remain hidden so that your students may shine. Let the good Lord bless you and your families with sound health of body, mind, heart and soul for the noble task you are engaged in.

Let us stand up with lighted candles to signify our service in giving without counting the cost as we play the song ‘carry your candle’ and hold it high when the chorus ‘carry your candle’ is sung.

Ritual B: Hold a lighted candle and raise high during the chorus ‘Carry your candle’ Concluding Song : Carry your candle - Refer: http://youtu.be/CVqR6kTu8lE

Concluding Prayer: (Any Teacher)

Lord God, Your Spirit of Wisdom fills the earth and teaches us your ways. Instruct me that I may learn from Thee what I ought to teach concerning thee. Help me never to forget the beauty in each child. Enable me to teach with wisdom for I help to shape the mind. Equip me to teach with truth for I help to shape the conscience. Encourage me to teach with vision for I help to shape the future. Empower me to teach with love for I help to shape the world.
