The Leadership Visit is an annual fall trip coordinated by the Columbia Chamber of Commerce to another nationally recognized city for a diverse delegation of leaders from Columbia and Boone County. The visiting delegation meets with leaders from the host community to openly discuss challenges and opportunities their community is facing. What are the primary goals of the Leadership Visit? 1. Introduce the delegation to innovative programs and impactful projects that may be adapted for our community. 2. Facilitate exchange of best practices and lessons learned among participants. 3. High-level networking and relationship-building among business and civic leaders. Why Tuscaloosa? Tuscaloosa is home to the University of Alabama and has a population size slightly smaller than Columbia at 100,300. Higher education is a significant driver in the Tuscaloosa economy, with diverse employment sectors including manufacturing, retail, financial services, and other industries. Downtown is a vibrant area with growth in the public and private sectors, while the Tuscaloosa Riverfront has also seen recent renewal of recreational opportunities, business and restaurants, and event space. Tuscaloosa has a nationally-recognized workforce development system, is collaborating on an innovative transportation infrastructure investment, and recently opened an incubator and accelerator as a partnership between the University, Chamber, and City. Specific sessions for the Leadership Visit will be developed in the coming months, and may include topics of workforce development, entrepreneurism & retention of local business, transportation infrastructure, housing and residential growth, sports facilities and tournaments, impact of University research, and more to be identified. Who can attend? Registration is open to Chamber members who are interested in coming together to share ideas and make positive changes in our community. Attendees have historically included leaders and decision-makers from our business, education, government and nonprofit sectors. How do I register? The cost is $2,000 per person.
