GOSSIP Fr. Jorge A. Román

A Mexican saying says: ¨ Eat sweet potatoes and don´t feel guilty. Take care of your own Home and leave the others in peace¨. No one has made us judges of others, when we judge, we are not brothers or sisters anymore, and we are not fulfilling the commandment of love that Saint Paul reminds us in his Letter to the Romans telling us that he who loves his neighbor, causes no harm to anyone. Love implies respect and discretion, since the tongue destroys. During the Second World War there were cartels in the ships that said: ¨Loose lips sink ships¨. Gossip is a grave sin that destroys a person's reputation, who even being guilty, has the right to be respected and not to be destroyed in its dignity. Gossip is spread to the air like the feathers of a pillow. That is easy. What is difficult is to recover them later. Once gossip spreads, it is difficult to heal the damage that has been done. Discretion is a sign of respect and love to our neighbor. This does not mean indifference to the wrong or silent complicity. Jesus tells us how we should proceed before someone who we know is wrong. First of all, we need to talk personally to the person and point out the mistake. It is also necessary to listen, since often things are not what they seem to be, and what from our point of view it seems bad. It may be that we don´t know the whole truth. Some friends, wanting to help a woman who was struggling with a man, came out to help her and after dominating the man, they took the car keys and handed them over to the woman. Then the man let them know that he had taken them from her because she was very drunk and wanted to drive. If after talking with the person to make him know his fault, and he pays no attention, try again with two or three people who are also trying to help him; and if he pays no attention again, then proceed to accuse him before the appropriate authority. Proceeding this way is to act with charity and discretion. To talk to other people rather than doing so with the concerned person, it is gossip and it is a mortal sin, because it is the same way that Christ was sentenced to the crucifixion. We become accomplice of his death every time we judge, accuse or gossip on someone. In a closed mouth, flies do not fall, and being quiet you look more beautiful.

Dice un dicho Mexicano: ¨Come camote y no te de pena. Cuida tu casa y deja la ajena¨. Nadie nos ha constituido jueces de los demás, ya que cuando juzgamos, no somos hermanos y no es tamos cump l iendo con e l mandamiento del amor que nos recuerda San Pablo en la Carta a los

Romanos diciéndonos que quien ama al prójimo, no le causa daño a nadie. El amor supone respeto y discreción, ya que la lengua destruye. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial había carteles en los barcos que decían: ¨Labios sueltos hunden barcos¨. El chisme es un pecado grave ya que destruye la reputación de la persona, que aunque sea culpable, tiene derecho a ser respetada y que no se le falte a su dignidad. El chisme es como esparcir al aire las plumas de una almohada. Eso es fácil, lo difícil es poder recuperarlas después. Una vez que se difunde un chisme, es difícil sanar el daño que se ha causado. La discreción es un signo de respeto y amor al prójimo, lo cual no significa indiferencia ante el mal o complicidad silenciosa. Jesús nos dice como debemos proceder ante alguien que sabemos que está mal. Primeramente hay que hablar personalmente que dicha persona y hacerle notar su error, pero también es necesario escucharle, ya que muchas veces las cosas no son como parecen y lo que desde nuestro punto de vista parece mal, quizá es porque no sabemos toda la realidad. Unos amigos, queriendo ayudar a una mujer que forcejeaba con un hombre, acudieron en su ayuda y luego de dominar al hombre, le quitaron las llaves del auto y se las entregaron a la mujer. Luego el hombre les hizo saber que él se las había quitado porque ella estaba muy borracha y quería manejar. Si luego de hablar con dicha persona para hacerle ver su error y no hace caso, inténtalo nuevamente con dos o tres personas que busquen ayudarle y si no hace caso, entonces procede a acusarle ante la autoridad pertinente. Proceder de esta forma es actuar con caridad y con discreción. Hablarlo con otra gente antes que hacerlo con el interesado es chisme y es un pecado mortal, pues de la misma manera, se condujo a Cristo a la condena de la Cruz. Así mismo, nos hacemos cómplices de su muerte cada vez que juzgamos, acusamos o chismeamos sobre alguien. En boca cerrada no entran moscas y calladito, te vez más bonito.

THE EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS

In the early seventh century, the Persians conquered Jerusalem. The Persian King Khosrau II captured the True Cross and took it back to Persia. After Khosrau's defeat by Emperor Heraclius II, Khosrau's own son had him assassinated in 628 and returned the True Cross to Heraclius. La fiesta del Triunfo de la Santa Cruz se hace en recuerdo de la recuperación de la Santa Cruz obtenida en el año 6129 por el emperador Heraclio, quien la logró rescatar de los Persas que se la habían robado de Jerusalén. Esta Festividad es el Jueves 14 de Septiembre y tendremos la Misa a las 6 de la Tarde en la Iglesia de San José en Mammoth Lakes.

LA SEGUNDA COLECTA DE HOY.- Será destinada para ayudar a las víctimas de los recientes Huracanes. Por favor , sean generosos.

CURSO SISTEMATICO DE BIBLIA.-

Este curso nos enseñará no a interpretar, sino a conocer las Sagradas Escrituras y conocer la Palabra de Dios de manera viva y veraz. Todos los Martes a las 6 p.m. en la Rectoría de San José a partir del 19 de Septiembre.

UN MENSAJE DEL OBISPO BLAIRE.- Estimados hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, Hago un llamado a todo nuestro pueblo Católico en la diócesis de Stockton y todas las personas de buena voluntad a unirse, en favor de los jóvenes que han calificado para DACA (Acción diferida para quienes llegaron aquí en la infancia). Estamos hablando de unos 800.000 hombres y mujeres jóvenes que sin culpa de parte, se encontraron en los Estados Unidos siendo aún niños y han caído en las grietas de un sistema de inmigración cuarteado. Los Estados Unidos es el único país que ellos conocen. Son jóvenes con mucho talento, esforzados, llenos de potencial y promesa. Las medidas actuales adoptadas por la Administración en vigencia aumentan la complejidad de las cuestiones de inmigración. Estos jóvenes serán dañados a menos que nuestros gobernantes electos actúen oportunamente para preservar el contenido de DACA y pasar una reforma migratoria integral. Una legislación miope que construye muros en lugar de puentes no hará el trabajo. Usted puede ayudar poniéndose en contacto con su Congresista y con los dos senadores de California. Aprovechemos este momento no sólo para ayudar a estos jóvenes que bien lo merecen sino para avanzar el bien común a través de una Reforma Integral de Inmigración. EDUCACION RELIGIOSA PARA TODOS.- La Catequesis no es solamente para los niños que han de recibir su Primera Comunión, sino para todas las personas de cualquier edad que quieran conocer la Fe Católica o recibir alguno de los Sacramentos. Las Clases comienzan el 23 de Septiembre en Mammoth Lakes y el 1 de Octubre en Lee Vining El Jueves 21 de Septiembre a las 6 p.m. tendremos junta con los Papás de los niños que asistirán al Catecismo. Es indispensable su presencia.

FIESTA DEL GRITO DE INDEPENDENCIA.- El Viernes 15 de Septiembre celebramos la Independencia de México y los Países Centroamericanos y en Nuestra Parroquia de San José lo festejaremos con la Misa Solemne a las 6 p.m. y luego con la Celebración del ¨Grito¨. Ven con ropa típica e invítanos a disfrutar de algún rico manjar de tu Terruño.

NUEVO PARROCO.- Después de cuatro años como Administrador Parroquial, El Obispo Blaire me ha nombrado Párroco Canónico de la Parroquia de San José en Mammoth Lakes y las Missiones Parroquiales desde el 1 de Septiembre del 2017 Me pongo a sus órdenes para servirles siempre con toda mi dedicación y amor que Dios tiene por cada uno de ustedes. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR ALL ._ Catechesis is not only for the children who have to receive their First Communion but for everyone of any age who wish to learn about the Catholic faith or receive any of the Sacraments. Also, those who want to be converted to the Catholic Religion and receive Baptism are invited. Registrations are open now. You can get registered during office hours. Classes will start onSepteber 23 in Mammoth Lakes and on October 1 in Lee Vining. On Thursday, September 21 at 6 p.m. we will have a meeting with parents of children who attend the Catechism. Attendance is mandatory.

CELEBRATION OF INDEPENDENCE DAY. _ On Friday, September 15, we celebrate the Independence of Mexico and the Central American Countries and in Our Parish of Saint Joseph we will celebrate it with the Solemn Mass at 6 p.m. and then with the Celebration of the ¨Grito ¨. Come with typical outfit and invite us to enjoy some delicious food from your hometown.

NEW PASTOR.- After 4 years of serving you as a Pastoral Administrator, Bishop Blaire has appointed me as the Canonical Pastor of Saint Joseph and the Mission Churches, effective since September 1, 2017.
