REV. ROBERT C. HUBBARD
Reverend Robert C. Hubbard, a much loved former pastor
of Liberty, in Appomattox, peacefully entered into rest
on August 22d at the home of his sister, Miss Alice Hubbard.
Mr. Hubbard was born fifty-eight years ago in Halifax county,
Va. He was educated in Richmond College and Louisville
Theological Seminary. For some years he was pastor in Kentucky
where he met iwth splendid success. About twenty years ago he
came to Virginia and was pastor in Halifax county, Newport
News and Liberty church of Appomattox. He remained here seven
years, resigning on June 1, 1914, to accept~ call to Hereford
[Hertford], N. C. After one year of service there ill health
forced him to resign and he returned to Appomattox, making his
home with his sister. In April, 1918, he became pastor in • Norton, Va. Five months later he had a paralytic stroke and
again returned to Appomattox, where for the last two years
he bravely made his last fight.
Mr. Hubbard was a man of exceptional pulpit power. His
sermons were far above the average and large crowds always
attended his ministry. During his pastorate at Liberty many
were added to the church and gifts to missions and benevolences
largely increased. The seed sown by this faithful man of God
doubtless had much to do with the' erection of the magnificent
new building two years ago.
Brother Hubbard is survived by three sisters, Mrs. J. w. Downey, Woodland, N. C., Mrs. J. L. King, Windsor, Va. and
Miss Alice Hubbard, of Appomattox.
A great and good minister of the gospel of Jesus is gone,

but his work abides. He will long live in the hearts and
lives of those who sat at his feet and heard the unsearchable
riches of Christ. Though dead he yet lives.
