WHAT USP ASSESSMENT ISN’T
USP assessment is NOT an evaluation of individual courses
USP assessment is NOT an evaluation of individual teachers
USP assessment is NOT an evaluation of individual students
WHY ASSESS USP?
1. To ensure that student learning goals of USP are being met.
2. To improve student learning in general education.
3. To meet the obligations that UW has to the Higher Learning Commission.
4. To achieve the objectives outlined in UP III.

Once a database is achieved WA/WB/WC, QA/QB, O, and I/L can be rotated as the C and S categories
The assessment process, itself, is subject to assessment, and therefore, revision over time.
HOW TO ASSESS USP
Suggested Process Plan ahead to ensure that one or more
assignments meets the scoring sheet criteria (read the scoring sheet)
Collect assignment(s) from students Grade assignment for course purposes Assess assignment for USP purposes
Return graded assignment to students Complete online scoring rubric and submit to
Academic Affairs Data collected by category Data maintained in database
HOW TO ASSESS USP CONTINUED
Scoring rubric online
Submit to Academic Affairs within 2 weeks after the end of semester classes
Be sure to provide brief description of assignment
