TWENTY THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Exodus 32:7-11, 13-14, 1 Timothy 1:12-17

Luke 15:1-32 or 15:1-10 Brief Reflection: We are all sons and daughters of our merciful Creator God. God the Father shows remarkable mercy to us when we stray from following him. When we sin, we are called to repentance and to accept God’s gracious mercy. By the same token, when others stray, we are to welcome them back with joy when they repent. We are all sons and daugh-ters of the same merciful Father.

A Word from Fr. James… Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, On this coming Wednesday we will have a slight change in our time for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Starting on September 18, Wednesday evening, confessions will start at 5:15 pm and will finish at 6:15 pm. Saturday will remain the same, 3:30-4:30 pm. (A side note, you are always welcome to call the office to schedule a time for reconciliation if either of those two times will not work)

Also, beginning on Wed., Sept. 18, we will now have an even-ing daily Mass in Spanish at 6:30 pm. All are welcome to attend. Often it is difficult for people that work during the week to be able to attend daily Mass. So, this is another op-portunity in addition to Saturday mornings at 8 am to attend Mass during the week.

Since we are talking about daily Mass, I would like to take this opportunity to invite all of you to prayerfully consider adding daily Mass as part of your daily routines. I started at-tending daily Mass when I was first baptized into the Church in 1995. When I moved to Portland in 1998, I did not resume attending daily Mass regularly until about late 2002. Since then, with rare exception, have I ever not attended daily Mass and now that I am a priest, I have celebrated Mass every sin-gle day since. It has been an incredible blessing in my life and I would invite each of you to consider how it may become a blessing in your life. I know that not everyone is able to make it to church every day due to family, work, and other commit-ments, but many of us can, who maybe don’t have other com-mitments.

Daily Mass at Sacred Heart Church is 8 am Tuesday to Friday. Wednesdays at 6:30 pm and Saturday at 8 am at St. Louis.

May God bless each of our Parish Families. Fr. James

Prayer Intentions Let us pray for those who are sick in our commu-nity. Remember these parishioners and friends of the Parish in your prayers: David Fend (hear t surgery recovery) Marge Wallace (failing health) Tom and Marge Pranger (recovery)

Teddy Davidson (hospice) Margaret Koenig (health) May you find consolation in knowing that you are thought of and prayed for in this time of need.

SACRED HEART CATHOLIC SCHOOL 503-792-4541 [email protected] School has been in session for 2 weeks and our hallways have been filled with the sounds of laughter, joy and prayer. Our school family will be praying the Rosary together on September 18, 2019 at 9 AM in the church.

We would love to have our parish family join us. Our 6th/7th/8th grade class will be leading us. All volunteers to our school will need to attend a C.A.S.E (Creating a Safe Environment). We will be holding our first session on

Thurs., September 26, at 7 PM in the school library. We would love to have volunteers to read with our stu-dents or help with recess duties. Call the school office if you can volunteer!

Almighty Lord God, You keep on giving abundance to men in the dew of heaven, and food out of the richness of the soil. We give thanks to Your most gracious majesty for the fruits of the field which we have gathered. We beg of You, in Your mercy, to bless our harvest, which we have re-ceived from Your generosity. Preserve it, and keep it from all harm. Grant, too, that all those whose desires You have filled with these good things may be happy in Your protection. May they praise Your mercies forever, and make use of the good things that do not last in such a way that they may not lose those goods that are everlasting, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
