September 15 and 22, 2019 24th and 25th Sundays in Ordinary Time
“Let us eat and celebrate; for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!”
Our readings speak of God’s generous, overflowing compassion and mercy. God is always searching for us, but we
don’t always want to be found. The parables of the lost sheep, lost coin and Prodigal Son were told by Jesus in
response to the grumbling of the Pharisees that Jesus “welcomes sinners and eats with them”. Jesus proclaims the
good news that all are welcome in God’s Kingdom. But are we prepared to be faithful disciples?
Our behavior and attitudes matter. We are called to act justly and to seek right relations with God, our neighbour and all creation.
