MAY DEMONSTRATION - RICHARD PRATHER
Richard Prather begins his paintings with a one-color under-painting; that way he doesn’t have to deal with white. He paints on especially processed board.
Typically, he paints the whole picture with one bristle brush which he cleans as he switches to another color. He may change brush sizes.
He begins by blocking in basic shapes and the darkest areas, building up color from dark to me-dium to light. Is there something in the painting that’s driven by the light? Get those things first.
What he loves about oil is texture, which he cre-ates by poking the brush onto the surface. He steps back and judges the progress of warm to cool in the picture. When painting the sky, he puts little dabs of color into the blue paint. Little color spots make it “pop.”
The edges are really important—lost and found. He doesn’t want the object to look like it’s “cut out.” And the land strips are graded.
Since he enjoys painting plein air the most., when he is painting in his studio, it is executed under a special light.
Dianna Powrie was the lucky winner of lovely landscape Richard Prather
donated.

WHO AM I? I AM A WEST TEXAS NATIVE FROM LUBBOCK, TX who through a series of divine events was directed to the Dallas Metroplex in 2000.
I HAVE TRADED CRAYONS FOR PASTELS, finger paint for acrylics and construction paper for canvas as my inner child fulfils its calling to create WandARTful Glory from uncommon objects allow-ing the viewer to experience an Artistic Realm Transformation.
I HAVE CREATED WORKS in watercolor, mixed media and I am currently working in acrylics. Among my works are several wearable art pieces. One of my creations are “bARTtles”, where art meets recycling and ordinary bottles are trans-formed into art.
I AM AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF VAL-Visual Art League of Lewisville were I serve as Director/Past President and I serve as a Committee Chair and Data Entry assistant for the RCAS – Richardson Civic Art Society. I have my anchoring and inspi-ration from my participation in the Prayer Ministry of Westside Baptist Church, Lewisville,TX.
I HAVE HAD THE JOY OF PROVIDING art work advertising for several of the Greater Lewisville Theater productions. It has been my pleasure to lend my art to both my church, community and work environment.
I DESIRE TO BE SEEN AS AN INSTRUMENT
used to share God’s Glory with his creations

Message from the President — Pat Fekete
Richardson Civic Art Society P.O. Box 831027 Richardson, TX 75083-1027
Pat Fekete
We have taken on several new projects in the past several years. We are looking into several new ones for the future. Each started with an idea that was proposed. We need your help in delivering these activities. We are an ALL VOLUNTEER organization. We must ALL step up and help. If each of us does a little bit, we can all enjoy. I look forward to seeing each of you, getting better acquainted and being your president.
As we begin the new RCAS year, welcome to each of you! Whether you are a long-time member or someone searching for something new, RCAS has something for each of you! We hope to inspire, share experiences and help develop the artist in us all. The officers and chairpersons have already been busy working to develop and deliver interesting programs and fun activities for the year. We want to enrich your artistic experience. We hope that you will get involved or re-involved with us. We want to include you.
