In a few weeks from now, we will celebrate the launch of the 20 year celebrations of thefounding of NIST. There will be opportunities to look back into our glorious past as weplan for the future. The future of technical education is critical to a backward state such as

Odisha since this is perhaps the only vehicle which will directly help in transforming the economyof the State. The rise of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra coincided with theplethora of engineering graduates coming out of colleges in those states, so it will be the samein Odisha. For long we have been beating the drums about the untold wealth of Odisha in its mines, scenic beauty, long coastline, fertile plains, etc., but now it is crucial to convert the same to jobs, education and healthcare for itscitizens. Else, this generation of entrepreneurs, decision makers, politicians, educationists and bureaucrats wouldhave failed the State.

The placement season is upon us. The top industries of the country are visiting our campus in the few months. ThePlacement Department has roped in top IT companies, core companies and others to visit our campus and taketheir selection of our talented graduates. We hope that the batch of 2016 will surpass the records of the previousbatches in this placement season. Do remember: companies look for a 360degree personality in tune with theirrequirements and a person willing to learn and work in a team. Once again, the oft repeated quote for the batchof 2016:

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” - Paulo Coelho

Best Wishes,

Sangram Mudali

The chief beauty about time is that you cannot waste it in advance. The next year, the next day, the next hourare lying ready for you, as perfect, as unspoiled, as if you had never wasted or misapplied a single momentin all your life. You can turn over a new leaf every hour if you choose. With fresh thinking and new hope,

new aspirations and new scope, team NIST e_news welcomes the 2015 Batch.

The last few months have been very eventful. The recognition for the constant efforts put in by our students andfaculty members is quite evident in our National rankings in DATA QUEST TMR Survey and the OUTLOOKmagazine. The Nanosoft, VTS, RE Innovations, Cadence and many more showcase our achievements andnovelty. The ICBPC, the International and National Fellowships attest to our persistent effort for excellence. Thebooks and papers published, the seminars attended, the Thursday Lecture Series etc. highlight the academic andresearch quality of the members of the NIST family.

We hope this edition provides the newbies the food for thought for their futureendeavors and encourages them to intensify their learnability. Happy Reading!

It gives me a great pleasure to inform you that the campus recruitment for the graduating batch of 2015 wasexcellent. More than 35 companies from the Information Technology, Product Manufacturing, Design, CONSULTING and Service sectors have recruited our students in good num-

bers. Most of the students have already joined in various companies.

The industries are doing well now. The campus recruitment of the graduating batch of 2016 isknocking at the doors and can start anytime in September 2015. The students are required toprepare thoroughly & brush-up their aptitude, GD, Technical & HR skills exhaustively. Thestudents should go through various portals to get the latest updates about campus recruitment ofthe current batch.

I have already informed the students of the final year about the APAC University Graduates Test of GoogleIndia one of the most sought after companies in India for a lucrative and challenging job. The test is open foranyone above 18 years of age and with excellent programming skills. You can register and take the online testscheduled on September 20th, October 18th and November 8th 2015 on the website: https://code.google.com/codejam/apactest. For any queries you may contact the Placement Department.

There are different types of companies and different types of eligibility criteria to appear the selection processes. Some companies consider the students who are throughout Career 60% and above (first division marks from10th onward), they are generally referred to as career companies and some are non-career companies whichallow the students even if they don’t have 60% marks in 10th, 12th or diploma.

Last year the following Non-Career companies have provided career opportunities to our students: Wipro Tech-nologies, Miracle Software Systems, NTCS India, Perfect VIPs, Wipro Infrastructure Services, Aanvi Support,Epic Research, Entuple, ESSPL, Globussoft, Ramtech, HCL, Keeves Technologies, Broadcom, Caliber Tech-nologies, Myntra.com, Semtech Technologies, AptusDataLabs Technologies Pvt. Ltd, Seawind Solutions,Thyrocare, Neebal Technologies, RetailOn, ShieldwatchInfotech, etc.

Also, the following throughout Career 60% companies have also provided career opportunities to our students:Infosys Limited, L & T Technology Services, Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, Hexaware Technologies, HCL Tech-nologies, R-Systems International, Sankalp & KPIT Semiconductor Pvt. Ltd., AMDOCS, Cadence, CoreELTechnologies, GGK Technologies, PRATIAN Technologies, Innofied Solutions, etc.

I urge all the students of final year to prepare well and give in their best for the campus recruitment as this is agolden opportunity to get a good job. I wish all the best to the students of the graduating batch of 2016 for theirforthcoming campus recruitment season. Do well and make everyone proud!

Nanosoft by NISTEntrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) in collaboration with Sunmokshaand NTCS has developed NanoSoft Technology which is now widely usedand highly appreciated in the field of trade and industry. Being developed touse, control, and monitor electricity remotely, Nanosoft has immenselybenefitted the farmers and citizens. The technology has substantially contributedin making Chhotkei, a village of Angul district, India’s first Smart Grid Village. The installation of the power plant at Chhotkei has been done in associationwith Sunmoksha, Wartsila, Kotak and OREDA.

Vehicle Tracking System by NISTNational Institute of Science and Technology, the premier technical institutionof South Odisha, has achieved another milestone in the field of science andtechnology. After Nanosoft, the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) developedby the researchers of NIST Training and Consultancy Services (NTCS) ofthe Institute is all set to serve general public. To use the VTS go to http://www.vtslive.in/nist.

VTS is a modern GPS based technique which enables schools, colleges, busand taxi operators to obtain detailed information about the movement of theirvehicles via internet. It also helps in tracking the speed of the vehicle andconsumption of fuel. In addition to this, VTS ensures the safety and securityof the students as the speed and movement of the vehicles can be tracked bytheir parents through mobile applications. The accuracy of information will help the commuters to reach theirstoppages on time. Presently, this technology is being used, for a fleet of 20 buses at NIST and a few otherorganizations in India.
