In July of 2014, 67 Freshmen arrived at Bayfront Charter High School to open our brand new school. We had only 6 classrooms to work with and the recreation area outside. Our staff included Dr. Riley, Dr. Santos, Elisa and 8 teachers. From those humble beginnings Bayfront has grown each year… and now those Freshmen are SENIORS! Along the way our seniors have accomplished something that only 1/3 of high school graduates in California accomplish: they completed all of their A-G requirements. In addition, many will have successfully completed multiple community college and AP courses to add to their transcripts as well as PSAT and SAT exams. And—our current seniors have participated in the college visits to UC Santa Barbara (9 th grade) and Bay Area Colleges (11 th grade.) Now… they are in the final months of preparing their applications for college. Check out some of the important dates on the back of this newsletter. Go Sharks!!! BAYFRONT CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL SHARKS JANUARY 2015

.

SHARK BYTES…

Our Fabulous Bayfront Gear Popping Up Around Town!

The Lady Sharks joined girls from around the county for an intense summer Volleyball Camp at SDSU. The number one question at the camp: “Where can we get that cool black and teal gear from Bayfront?”

If you or anyone you know is traveling, make sure they take a Bayfront Charter High School t-shirt, hoodie or beanie with them. We want pictures from the Great Wall, Burning Man, the Roman Coliseum, the Australian Outback or anywhere else in the world!

SHARKS WATCH SOLAR ECLIPSES TOO Not all sharks may have been aware of the rare solar eclipse back on August 21, but the Bayfront Sharks were. Multiple science and math classes donned their safety glasses and came outside to watch the spectacular stages and manage a photo with their I-Phones! SHARKS FOOTBALL OPENING GAME The Sharks Flag Football Team kicks off their season on Saturday, September 9 against Calvary Christian High School. All games are being played on the new field at Mueller! GIRLS VOLLEYBALL Our Lady Sharks Volleyball Team will be playing in the September Classic Volleyball Tournament at Canyon Crest High School on Sept 8th and 9th. To see the entire schedule of games for Football, Volleyball and Cross Country visit our website.

COLLEGE WORKSHOPS FOR SENIORS (All workshops are at Bayfront Charter HS) • Aug. 23 @ 6:00- SAT/ACT Registration • Sept 6 @ 6:00- “Writing Your Personal Statement” • Sept 20 @ 6:00- College Application Process and Important Timelines (with UCSD Admissions Representative) • Oct 11 @ 6:00- Financial Aid Process and Important Timelines (with SDSU Financial Aid Officer) WASC ACCREDITATION Bayfront is preparing for the next stage of our accreditation process. All high schools in California must not only earn “initial” accreditation (Bayfront became accredited in 2015)… but it must be renewed every 3 years. Our WASC visit is scheduled for March 12 – 14. The process requires schools to analyze their strengths and growth opportunities in 5 categories: School Organization, Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment and School Culture.
