Yakima Enological Society — September 2017 Page 2

President’s Corner September 2017 Congratulations to Chris Peterson, son of Y.E.S. members Rod and

Denise Peterson, on being named 2017 Winemaker of the Year. Chris was in the first Enology and Viticulture Program at Walla Walla Community College developed by the late Stan Clarke in 2003. Chris began his career at DeLille Cellars, eventually advancing to the role of production winemaker. He left DeLille in 2011 to start Woodinville-based Avennia with Marty Taucher. Former NFL quarterbacks Damon Huard and Dan Marino chose Chris as their winemaker when they started their Passing Time Winery in 2012. Chris thinks “it’s only the beginning” for Washington state wines.
