The Naonal Register of Historic Places
Denis Garner
Thursday, October 11th
10:00am to 11:00am
Come to learn how things get on the Naonal Registry….
The Naonal Register of Historic Places is the federal list of
properes considered historically significant and worthy of
preservaon. The list includes properes significant in
American history, culture, architecture, engineering, and
archaeology. In this presentaon Denis P. Gardner,
Minnesota’s Naonal Register Historian, highlights the
events that spurred creaon of the Naonal Register, and
he explains the concepts that help us determine what
makes a property eligible for lisng in this special
inventory of places. Gardner finishes his talk by featuring
properes in your region of the state that are a part of the
Naonal Register.
Denis P. Gardner is the Naonal Register Historian at the
Minnesota State Historic Preservaon Office in St. Paul,
where he reviews the eligibility of properes for the
Naonal Register of Historic Places. He is the author of
Minnesota Treasures: Stories Behind the State’s Historic
Places (Minnesota Historical Society Press) and Wood,
Concrete, Stone, and Steel: Minnesota’s Historic Bridges
(University of Minnesota Press). His latest book is Our
Minnesota State Capitol: From Groundbreaking Through
Restora%on (Minnesota Historical Society Press).

Both of our homes are small, Valentines is home to 15 seniors and at Loving Residence,10 seniors call it home. When you enter Valentines or Loving Residence you will understand why we call it home. You won’t be greeted by massive staircases, large meeting areas or dining rooms that can accommodate a hundred or more diners. Instead you will find and feel a sense of home. Our locations are staffed 24 hours a day with trained/
qualified caregivers under the supervision of an RN.
