Finding the Heartbeat
I love the game of baseball. I started playing when I was around eight years old. When I first joined a team, I believed the point of the game was to hit a homerun every time I was up to bat. I truly thought the entirety of the sport rested on the bat crushing a ball over the fence. As I matured I learned a hard lesson. Homeruns are very rare. We turn on Sports Center and see homerun after homerun from highlight reels. But that is from 32 teams with an active roster of 25 players. That is 800 of the best players in the world, and they are nowhere near hitting a homerun every at bat. I quickly learned that homeruns are not the point of the game, but only a part of the sport. The bat is a part of the game, along with the ball, glove, field, bases, players, coaches, fans, fences, and so much more. The heart of the game is the anticipation of what will happen after each pitch leaves the hand of the pitcher. Unless you truly understand that point, baseball will
always disappoint you.
That is true of the purpose of the Church as well. If we don’t understand what the heart of the Body of Christ is, then we will always be disappointed in what comes out of it. The center is the Gospel. I won’t go into great detail explaining the Gospel, because the
Elders of First Baptist Church and I would love to hear what you have to say about it.
We are seeking to complete a church wide survey to see where FBC is centered. The survey will not be long. In fact, it is only one question. There is no specific length of an-swer that we are looking for. We are asking that you answer the question however you
feel you can best define the gospel. The question is: How would you define the gospel?
The survey will be out from September 1st-28th and we would like to have all of them back in on the September 29th. You don’t have to include your name to your answer, but feel free to if you would like to. I truly appreciate each of you taking the time to complete this survey and for being a part of the family of FBC. You make this church a
great place to worship together.
