PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY Priesthood Sunday, September 29, is a
day set aside to honor priesthood in the United
States. Members of the Serra Club of North Cen-
tral North Dakota are reminding parishioners in
our region that without priests, Mass could not
be offered, and sacraments could not be cele-
brated. It is essential to note that the number of
priests and ordinations in the United States has
steadily declined in the last fifty years. While we
have been particularly blessed in the Bismarck
Diocese in the number of vocations we have (and
we could always use more), many parishes
across the United States without a resident priest
pastor has sharply increased in that same period
of time. —
Take the time--especially on September 29—to
thank the priest(s) for their service in your parish.
His work never really stops. All of that is to our
benefit, and is a constant blessing in our lives.
Catch him as he rushes about saying Mass, hear-
ing confessions, baptizing, teaching, confirming,
and preaching. Stop him in his tracks and say,
Thanks, Father, for your presence in my life.
THE SERRA CLUB OF NORTH DAKOTA has printed a full color pamphlet titled “Praying
the Rosary.” For each mystery there is a color
picture, a brief description of it scriptural source,
and a brief prayer for priests. The club invites you
to take a copy and use it as an aid in praying for
our priests.
STEWARDSHIP THOUGHTS The dishonest manager in today’s parable knew
how to manipulate money to his own advantage.
But the Gospel warns that no one can serve
both God and money. Which do I serve? Is my
stewardship such that anyone can tell?
Stewardship Thought: In a life committed to
stewardship we are called to “possess lightly.”
Jesus taught about the damages of clutching to
material possessions and pointed to the real
treasures available to us in life.
