St. Ann’s Parish 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time September 25, 2016
I’m sure you’re aware that the City of Yonkers has sponsored a Columbus Day parade for many years
now. A few years back, noticing the large Italian population that is still present in our neighborhood, they
decided to move the parade to Midland Avenue. This year, they have even honored St. Ann’s by asking us to
be the host parish of the 2016 Columbus Day Parade. I of course accepted the offer with pleasure! The
Columbus Day Committee and all the dignitaries will join us on Saturday, October 1st for the 5:00 PM Mass.
There will be a light reception in Fr. Anthony Hall afterwards to which everyone is invited. On Sunday,
October 2nd, the annual Columbus Day Parade will step off from Yonkers Avenue at 2:00 PM. It will process
up seminary Avenue and turn onto Smart Street and then Midland Avenue. The grandstand will be situated at
the intersection of Smart Avenue and Midland Avenue, placing St. Ann’s Church and Chapel at the heart of
all the activity. It would be great to see a large number of our parishioners come out and support the parade.
St. Ann’s School marches every year, and you are always welcome to join us. It would be wonderful to see a
large contingent of parishioners in addition to the school. The Maggiacomo Lodge Order Sons of Italy in
America, whose chaplain I recently became, will be actively involved in the parade. Lots of dignitaries and
political figures are in attendance every year, especially right before Election Day, and loads of good people
from all over the region. I am honored to have St. Ann’s be the host parish of the 2016 Columbus Day Parade,
and I hope you share our honor and come out and join the parade as a marcher or a spectator.
