Keep your calendar up-to-date.

ArbiterPay will be used this year by some of our schools. Set up an account with ArbiterPay prior to the start of the season. If you experience issues with ArbiterPay, call Arbiter Technical Support.

May have missed adding conflicts for some officials. If so, let RSO know.

Conflicts of Interest, Mark-Offs

Refer to website to view new policies.

New policies in place that address conflicts of interest and mark-off’s.

All blocks and conflicts have been purged from the system – starting fresh this year.

Positive communication should occur during pregame introduction with coaches.

Shake the coach’s hand, look them in the eye,

introduce yourself and tell them good luck.

Do not take this lightly as it often sets the tone from a coach’s perspective for the game.

No off the cuff comments, no joking around. A handshake, your name, are all players legally equipped, good luck and move on.

Pregame Meeting with Coaches

If a player takes a step off the bench and they stop them – okay

If players come off the bench, they must be ejected.

If they come off and there is a fight, they are going to sit just like they participated in the fight.

If the head coach comes out and is helping, great! If arguing, assess a technical foul.

Note: When the officials are leaving the school with their bags around their shoulder and a coach berates them in the parking lot or anywhere else, issue a postgame ejection!

Coming off the Bench

Ejections – Must communicate to the coach and let him know whether it is a DQ or ejection. Don’t leave the gym without everyone knowing.

Disqualifications and Ejections

Report also required for DQ’s, etc so the players will have to go through the STAR program.

Calling official must submit the report within 24 hours, but don’t delay. Do it that night!

DQ’s and Ejections, continued..

Fighting adds 2 games to the suspension.

Coach can be DQ’d (2nd technical for being out of box) OR ejected (disrespectfully addressing official). Get this right! Both require reports.

Do not call a second Technical Foul on the coach during same dead ball interval unless he storms the court. Please let your partner handle this.

Don’t wait until the last minute. Take it on Monday or Tuesday so you have time to deal with issues.

NFHS Testing

Make absolutely sure your email address in NFHS matches your email address on the NCHSAA site exactly!

Must make 75 or higher to work NCHSAA games. (Lost 2 officials for the season last year)

Must be a Class I or II Official to work Post-Season State Tournament (Lost 4 officials for the play-offs)

Be extremely careful with social media comments. Officials have been suspended for what they thought were meaningless or humorous comments.

NCHSAA: The minimum suspension is 2 weeks; the maximum suspension is up to 365 days and the official has to request reinstatement.

A social media position statement by the NCHSAA was added in the sportsmanship section in the handbook.

Refer to the TBOA website for more information.
