year, both Middle and High School groups will meet on Sundays:

4:00 – 6:00 pm – Middle School Youth 6:00 – 8:00 pm – High School Youth

Another feature of this new schedule: Both groups are invited to share in a 5:30 pm meal. Parents from both age groups will sign up to provide the meal on a rotating basis.

GO APE! High Ropes Adventure Course Saturday, Sep 6 - 1:00 - 7:00 pm Middle School, Sr. High, & Chaperones $35 (17 & younger) or $55 (18 & older) plus money for dinner It’s the return of Go Ape! Come enjoy numerous rope ladders, 39 exciting crossings, 2 Tarzan swings and 5 zip lines. Each section takes you higher into the forest canopy and finishes with a longer zip line and more expansive views! The course consists of over 2,624 feet worth of zip lines and obstacles -- an incredible treetop adventure!

We’ll meet Saturday by the Youth Room entrance at 1:00pm, head to Go Ape, and eat dinner together after! Wear sneakers or boots (no sandals or open-toed shoes) and comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather. We need a strong adult-to-teen ratio on the course, so adults are definitely encouraged to join us! Those not wishing to participate are welcome to come and watch us from the ground (though they don’t count

toward our ratio). More drivers and vehicles will likely be needed (and reimbursed by the church for gas).

Sign up as soon as possible (the absolute last day to let me know is Monday, Sep 1) by contacting Tim (447-3089). DON’T FORGET: If you went to Go Ape with us last year, bring your certificate of completion to get a free t-shirt (or water bottle)!

SCHOOL NEWS

Thank you to everyone who attended our schools’ “Open House” on August 17th. We had a great turnout, and everyone seemed happy and excited about the start of school. It was so nice to see so many parents and members of the congregation visiting our classrooms and meeting our teachers!

Evangelical School for the Young Years

Our preschoolers began the year on August 25th and 26th with a one hour session for children and parents. The children got a “taste” of school, while parents received an overview of the school year. This year we have four classes of four year old students, and three classes of three year old students with a total enrollment of 120 students. Everyone is

Page 5: September 4TH Sunday, Oct. 19 - evangelical-ucc.org · 2014 Below are the 2014 dates for the Flower Calendar, if you would like to purchase the altar flowers in memory of honor of

enjoying getting into the routine of school. This year we are starting something new with the addition of all-day preschool for four year olds. Students who are enrolled in the morning program may also elect to enroll in the afternoon session. The afternoon session ends at 3:00 as to make a smoother dismissal with the elementary dismissal. We have also added an extended care program. Those students enrolled in the all day program may also take advantage of our “Eagle’s Nest” before and after school care. The times are 7:00-8:45am and 3:00-5:00pm. There is an extra charge for this service.

A September field trip is planned for the four year old students on September 17th and 18th. The classes will be going to Eckert’s

Apple Orchard to pick apples. We have a Parent Night scheduled for September 22nd. Parents get to know more about the curriculum, and follow their child’s schedule of rotating through our three specialized rooms.

Evangelical Elementary and Middle Schools

School for elementary and middle school students started on August 18th with two half days. Curriculum night was held on August 19th. It appears that the students and teachers were anxious to get back to school! Along with our new kindergarten students, we have new students in other grades as well.

We extend a big Evangelical welcome to them and their families. The elementary enrollment totals 326 students. We added two new teachers to our faculty. Michael Toolen III will be teaching Music, and Jacqueline Garcia will be teaching Spanish. Stephanie Hawkins, our former Spanish teacher, is teaching fourth grade this year, and Michelle Decker moved from teaching fourth grade to teaching fifth grade. We welcome our new teachers, as they become part of our Evangelical family.

Auction News

The annual auction will be held October 17th at The Commons on the campus of Lewis and Clark Community College. You will soon be receiving an invitation, and we hope you will able to join us. The auction is the major fundraiser for our schools, and provides for things that we would otherwise not be able to provide. This year’s theme is “Mardi Gras Masquerade”. The students will be making items for the auction, but we are also looking for other donations for the auction. If you would like to donate something, please drop it by the school office by October 3rd. If you have never attended one of our auctions, please plan to join us this year for a wonderful evening. With your help, we can have a great auction!

DuBois Center Fall Festival Sunday, October 5 11:00am - 5:00pm

Save the date of Sunday, October 5, 2014, for DuBois Center Fall Festival. It is a family friendly event with FREE parking and admission. More information to come.

Also, on Sunday, October 5th, DuBois will be holding a DuBois Dash. this is a 5K Trail Run and a 1 Mile Fun Walk. The Trail Run and Walk will begin at 9:30am.

For more information about the Dash, please go to DuBois Center web site at www.duboiscenter.org.

Your Trash, Our Treasure

Before putting away your garden tools at the end of the summer gardening season, it might be a good idea to take stock of jut what has accumulated in your garage or tool shed over the years - 4 trowels, 7 kneeling pads, 3 hoes, etc. Amazing - isn't it?! Are there extras that are no longer needed to care for your garden? Then please consider donating them to DuBois Center. They have a random hand tool or two, but not enough to accommodate work groups of youth from Hoyleton Children's Home, confirmation classes, scout troops and other willing volunteers. They do have lots of full-sized rakes and shovels, but more tools specifically for garden work - planting, weeding and pruning - are needed. Think trowels, cultivators, hand weeders, hoes, loppers, pruners, and shrub rakes.

If you have any questions, please contact DuBois Center at (618) 787-2202.

Fall Festival - Salad Luncheon

Thursday, October 2, 2014

The Fall Festival & Salad Luncheon is right around the corner. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, October 2, 2014. This event is our biggest fund-raiser. Proceeds are used for various church projects, equipment and much more. As always, we need your help.

Bakery Pies are our best sellers! Anything yummy will do. Coffee cakes, muffins, cookies, cakes, candy, jams, jellies, etc. Our hope is that each family will donate at least one baked item.

Beads, Bangles & More

It's all about accessories! Beads, bangles, costume jewelry, belts, scarves, purses, etc.

Books Gently used books, recipe books, and children's books. PLEASE NO ENCYCLOPEDIAS, TEXTBOOKS OR MAGAZINES.

Flyers Please help us get the word out. Take a few flyers and pass them along to family, friends and businesses.

Tickets As in the past, we would appreciate each family selling 10 tickets. We'll have tickets available on Sunday, September 7th.

Baskets There will be NO White Elephant area this year. Instead the Women's Fellowship Board has decided to raffle off "themed" baskets. The board will be busy putting baskets together. But, in order to have a wide variety, we are asking for donations from the congregation. Whether from an individual, or committee or board, if you could donate a "themed basket" for our raffle it would give our "guests" lot of choices. Please contact Nancy Brown with any questions. We are looking forward to another successful event. Please know that your donations are very much appreciated. Women's Fellowship Board
