MASS BOOK OPENING The Mass book will open on September 14, 2020 after the 8:30am Mass at the Parish
Office located at St. Thomas More Church. There will be a limit to 6 Masses per person for the first day so that we may accommodate the many requests.
A REVISED Mass Schedule will be published next week.

This week we received a memo from the Vicar General of the Diocese of Brooklyn s u s p e n d i n g i n - p e r s o n
Religious Education, inside sports, and inside youth ministry initiatives. As a priest, this was a very frustrating memo to receive. I will continue our efforts to reach the young people of the community and I hope you will join me in encouraging them.
Religious Education: To be clear, Maureen McVeigh developed a concise plan to open our freestanding Religious Education School and worked with Father Jeremy to make sure that all safety protocols, more than if you go to the supermarket, would be in place. I thank them for this. And so we revise the plan for the third time. We will begin the year with grades K-7 with online instruction. Confirmation Class (grade 8) will meet in-person every week for prayer and study. A complete plan and schedule is being communicated to our registered families.
CYO and Sports: Let me thank Anthony Burti and his executive team for also make numerous adjustments based on what the Diocesan CYO Office is communicating. As a reminder, the pastor of the parish sets the policy for CYO on the local level. To this point I have asked Tony and his team to find every available space that our kids can use for sports. You cannot keep children locked-up in front of computers for 7 months and think that this is healthier than going to school.
Youth Ministry: We are now accepting resumes for a part-time youth minister. Some have asked why not hire a full-time youth minister? Salary definitely comes into play, but my experience and talking with other pastors as well seems to show that there is simply no justification for a full-time youth minister based on hours required to be worked. We are following the ministry guidelines of most music ministers in the parish and know it would be impossible to set standard hours to a need based ministry.
