FROM THE PASTOR: Prayer From Today’s Gospel Lord Jesus, You are my Treasure, my Life, and my All. There is nothing in this life that can outweigh the joy of knowing, loving, and serving You all the days of my life. Take my life and make it Yours for Your glory now and forever. Dan Schwager—Servants of the Word

Good-Bye To a Staff Person I hired Denise Lorenchick in May as our new financial secretary to replace Mary Lou Porter who was retiring. But life often brings changes. She needs to resign so she can devote more time to caring for her elderly parents. She was making good progress in grasping and executing the position’s many responsibilities. But that experience might do well by her in the future. She and the staff were just getting to know each other, but she will be missed. We promise our prayers and bid her God speed. Her last day was Wednesday, September 4th.

New Servers and Cross Bearers Needed A great way to show your love for the Lord Jesus is the serve at Mass. You may have noticed that the servers and cross bearers help the liturgy unfold in a prayerful and orderly way. Training will be provided.

Servers need to have made their First Holy Communion and Cross Bearers be in at least 8th grade. Please call or email the parish office to sign up. Thanks.

Parents, Your Child’s First Year of College I came across an article recently entitled, “Is Your Child Emotionally Ready For College?” You might find it helpful in this important transition year for your child. Just google it.

Families Are Indispensable “Families must become places ‘of redemption rather than places of wounding; places of reconciliation rather than places of betrayal.’ It doesn’t take courage to be a fool. It does to do the right thing.

Consider today where you can turn from wrongdoing and begin to lay down your life once again, for your spouse and your family. And admit to those places where you

need God’s divine glue, and ask God to heal you.” Donald & Lorrie Gramer from Marriage Care Novena

Abortion forever severs bond between mother and child It was with a mixture of emotions that I noted “Women’s Equality Day” this week.

I am quite thankful for the sacrifices and struggles that our foremothers underwent to ensure that American women live in a free and equal society. I treasure my right to vote, my professional prospects, and equal treatment under the law.

But I cannot help but think that feminist pioneers such as Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton would be deeply disappointed with the failures that keep women oppressed.

Key among these is legalized abortion. Millions of baby girls are denied the right to life under the Roe v. Wade regime. They are unable to exercise any rights, because they have been robbed of the most fundamental of these—the mere right to exist.

Moreover, rather than providing freedom to women, legalized abortion can entrap them in a vicious cycle of abuse...The act of abortion itself is abusive to women, for it forever severs the bond between mother and child. Women are left to grieve their children lost to abortion—often in secrecy and silence.

The battle scars can lead to substance abuse, suicide attempts, eating disorders, and all manner of self-harm. The cruel legacy of abortion can then traumatize succeeding generations—such as the siblings of the aborted child—and the preceding generation, as grandparents struggle with the loss of their descendants.

I long for the day when we can celebrate women’s true equality—when all pregnant women are supported, cherished, and loved, along with their priceless progeny.

Until then…as long as Roe v. Wade is the law of the land…Women’s Equality Day will indeed be a cause for sober reflection on how far our society has yet to go. Maria V. Gallagher, Legislative Director, Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

T H O U G H T S O N G I V I N G :

“Everyone of you who does not renounce all his possessions cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:33)

When we first hear this statement, it seems that Jesus is making an unrealistic demand upon us. How can we renounce all of our possessions? We need them to live. However, what we must renounce is the belief that they belong to us. Everything that we have belongs to God alone. All of our resources are entrusted to us not only for our own use, but also so that we can help others. Once we renounce the idea that we possess or are entitled to anything, it is much easier to share the many gifts that God has given us. Then we truly are His Disciples.
