TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

FAITH FORMATION NEWS

Our Faith Formation Program for

Grades 1-6 begins this week on Tuesday, September 11 & Wednesday, September 12

from 4:45-6:15pm. As usual, we ask all students and their parents to join us in the Church for our

Opening Prayer Service at 4:45pm. We ask all of our parishioners to keep the children, their families, and our

catechists in prayer as we gather to begin a new year filled with joy and commitment to grow in faith and our love for Jesus as we journey to God’s Kingdom.

Upcoming Faith Formation Events: September 16 – Catechetical Sunday Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, 9:30am (1st class)

September 18 & 19 – Parent Meetings for Grades 1-6 After Opening Prayer Service (5pm)

September 23 – Parent/Student Meeting for Grades 7 & 8 12:15pm (after 11am Mass) in Hall Parent/Student Meeting for Confirmation 2pm in Hall

September 30 – Parish Picnic

OPENING THE WORD Scripture Study Returns – Introductory Evening

Reflection on Upcoming Sunday Readings This is a return of the successful study from Formed which we began last year. Our Introductory Session will be Monday, September 17 in the Parish Hall at 7:30pm. The evening format is as follows: Opening prayer and commentary on one aspect of the upcoming readings – then we view a 5-8 minute reflection on the Gospel and have an open discussion on thoughts. Each person receives a study guide for the week with personal reflective questions for each day of the week till Sunday. Total time is 1 hour with parish friends. If you are interested, please call Nancy Dunn at the Parish Office. These gatherings are generally three times a month on Monday evenings.

WOMEN: FEARLESS IN PRAYER! Saturday, September 22 at St Stans

Arrive at 11:15 for refreshments Begins 11:30(sharp) - 3:30pm

Arrive at 11:15 for light refreshment and fellowship. Women of all ages are welcome to attend a Saturday of reflection on the important role we play in praying for our families, friends, nation and the world. Focusing on the movie, War Room, it will prove to be an inspiring time of discussion, reflection, fun activity and of course food! Lead by Andrea Tighe and Nancy Dunn, we look forward to beginning a new “year” of discussing how to fight the spiritual battle to keep our families in the faith and in close relationship with our Lord! No matter what your state in life is, we can all come together as sisters in faith to enjoy this time together. We are asking for a donation of $20 for supplies and lunch. Please RSVP to Nancy Dunn at 635-1700 x 12 no later than Monday, September 10.

PIG ROAST THIS SUNDAY!

3-6pm This event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, to benefit the Youth Group trip to the Life March in Washington, DC in January 2019.

Suggested Donation Adults $20, Children $10, Family $50 The menu will include pork, chicken,

baked potato, corn on the cob, baked beans, and macaroni & cheese. Soft drinks/coffee/tea will be served

Take out is also available.

support the K of C and the St. Stan’s Teen Club.

HARDY MUM FUNDRAISER September 22-23

The teen club will once again be selling beautiful Fall Hardy Mums. This year instead of pre- ordering we will have the actual plants available for you to purchase. The cost for each

plant is just $8 or four for $30 and will come in a variety of colors. Please support the amazing teens in our parish and have a beautiful garden at the same time. All proceeds will help with the cost of our annual conference in December.

TAKING IT TO THE STREETS Targeted Sunday collections in September

For the month of September, each Sunday is going to be targeted for specific items to be taken to the local homeless in Poughkeepsie to help prepare for the cooler autumn weather. Sunday, September 9 Jeans: clean and wearable Sunday, September 16 Sweaters and LIGHT jackets

OCTOBER PILGRIMAGE TO THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

On Saturday, October 6, there will once again be an Archdiocesan pilgrimage to Washington, D.C., to visit the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. If you have never been on a pilgrimage before, please consider joining us for a day of prayer, reflection, and trust in her care as we visit the basilica affectionately known as Mary’s Shrine. Buses will depart from across the Archdiocese and there will be time to tour the basilica, pray the rosary together, and celebrate Holy Mass before returning home. ST. STAN’S TEEN CLUB NEWS

KICK OFF BBQ

On Saturday, September 15th the Teen Club will hold a BBQ to begin the year of activities. The event will be held at Mrs. Tighe’s house and will begin at 3pm. Please bring a side dish or desert to share. This event is open to all PTAFers and Jr. PTAFers. To RSVP Call or text Mrs. Tighe at (845)242-5208 or respond on the St. Stan’s Facebook page. (If you have not yet join the Facebook page please do so as soon as possible so that you can have the latest information and event updates)

TEEN CLUB AT THE PARISH PICNIC The St. Stan’s Teen Club is invited, along with their families, to participate in the Annual Parish Picnic. Members of the teen club are also asked to help with set up/clean up, run games, face painting and community building activities. Please RSVP on the picnic sign up and let Mrs. Tighe know if you can help with the activities.

REGULAR MEETING FOR PTAF & Jr. PTAF The first meeting for the Teen Club will be Sunday, October 7th from 12:15-2pm. At this meeting we will once again be making PB&J sandwiches for Taking it to the Streets. Also at this meeting we will be making plans for the Annual Conference- making the banner, planning our prayer service and practicing our cheers. Don’t miss out…. bring a friend. Our Jr. PTAF – all students in 5th & 6th grade are invited to join us at this meeting. See what teen club is all about and how you can be a part of it all. Hear about all the fun activities we have planned for the year.

NY CATHOLIC YOUTH DAY On Saturday, October 20th the Office of Youth Ministry will hold its annual Catholic Youth Day. St. Stan’s Teen Club has always attended this event where over a 1000 youth from all over the Archdiocese will come together for a day filled with music, speakers, service and fun. This year’s theme, BE BOLD, focuses on the message from Luke 1:30, “Do not be afraid, Mary for you have found favor with God.” Plan on joining us this year. This will be the class trip for our 8th

Grade Faith Formation class, so we will be taking a bus to the event. Please RSVP to Mrs. Tighe ASAP.

IT’S CONFERENCE TIME The 57th Annual PTAF Conference is coming quick. The date this year is Nov 30-Dec 2, 2018 and will once again be held at Honors Haven Resort & Spa in Ellenville, NY. Forms for the conference will be available at all of our gatherings so please make sure to take one, fill it out and return with a deposit made payable to St. Stanislaus Youth Program. The cost for the 3 day event is just $230 which covers the entire weekends meals and activities. The form and deposit is due by our Oct 7th teen club meeting. This is an amazing weekend that is filled with fun, friends and of course Faith.
