SOMOS UNA COMUNIDAD
El conocimiento médico del siglo XXI y la tecnología mejorada han ayudado a los ciegos y sordos a enfrentar sus desventajas. Potentes audífonos, lentes correctivos y nuevos avances técnicos han mejorado los problemas de audición y visión para muchas personas. En los últi-mos años, las actitudes de la sociedad hacia los discapacitados físicos han cambiado, como lo han visto las leyes federales y estatales que han ordenado cambios que permiten a las personas con discapacidad vivir una vida más cómoda. Estas medidas positivas nos recuerdan las barreras que enfrentan los discapacitados físicos y nos instan a continuar nuestros esfuerzos para valorar a todos eliminando lo que excluye a las personas de la igualdad de oportunidades debido a sus impedimentos físicos.
Helen Keller, la autora y oradora ciega y sorda, una vez escribió: "Se llevaron lo que deberían haber sido mis ojos, pero recuerdo el paraíso de John Milton. Se llevaron lo que deberían haber sido mis oídos; Beethoven vino y se enjugó mis lágrimas. Se llevaron lo que debería haber sido mi lengua, pero yo había hablado con Dios cuando era joven. Él no los dejaría llevarse mi alma; ¡Poseyendo que todavía poseo el todo! "Esta cita perspicaz nos invita a considerar nuestra propia actitud hacia los miembros con impedimentos físicos de nuestro mundo. Es a estos que Jesús dirige su amor.
En nuestro Evangelio de hoy, un sordo con un impedimento del habla es llevado a Jesús. Con una sola palabra y un toque amoroso, proclamó: "¡Ephphetha! Abrirse ". El que no había podido escuchar experimentó una nueva libertad que le permitió avanzar hacia un futuro nuevo y prometedor. El sordo habló claramente y la asom-brada multitud comentó a Jesús: "Él ha hecho todas las cosas bien" ... un eco del veredicto del Dios Creador mientras el mundo estaba siendo creado por su mano. "Dios miró todo y lo encontró muy bueno". (Génesis 1:31) Jesús habló: "Abrid", recordando la profecía de Ezequiel: "En aquel día ... tu boca se abrirá para hablar" (Ezequiel 24: 27) ¡Su profecía se había convertido en realidad!
Ese mismo eco se escucha hoy durante el rito del Bautismo cuando cada persona recién bautizada escucha al celebrante recitar la Oración Ephphetha mientras toca las orejas y la boca de la persona: "El Señor Jesús hizo oír a los sordos y hablar a los mudos, que pronto toque tu oídos para recibir su palabra, y su boca para proclamar su fe, para alabanza y gloria de Dios el Padre. "Dios nos abrirá los oídos si le preguntamos. Sin embargo, nuestra solicitud de intimidad divina exigirá un alto precio. "Cuanto más queremos de Dios, más como Dios somos llamados a ser". Sin embargo, la sordera no es solo una condición física, sino también una falla moral que existe tanto hoy como lo fue hace siglos. ¿Con qué frecuencia escuchamos pero no escuchamos? Escuchar requiere atención cuidadosa. Con demasiada frecuencia escuchamos la palabra de Dios pero no la escuchamos atentamente, y como resultado, no se arraiga en nosotros. Lo que se requiere es escuchar y escuchar, porque la audición enfocada puede resultar en una comprensión más profunda y ¡puede movernos a la acción! En nuestro mundo lleno de palabras, somos bendecidos con dos oídos para asimilarlo todo, y una boca para dejarlo salir. Adults can come and enjoy the music of the Barrcasters while the children play on four different in!lata-bles/bouncers. Por favor, déje-los en el contenedor que esta cerca de la caja que es del Centro de Ayuda en la parte posterior de la iglesia. Donaciones moneta-rias también son muy apreciadas por esta caridad que vale la pena. El fundador Jo Wynn ha ayudado a adolescentes sin hogar,
a presos que están haciendo la transición de regreso a la comunidad, a abuelos que crían a sus nietos y familias que están siendo reunificada.

September the Human Concerns Committee is collecting toiletries for WALKIN IN MY SHOES. Please place them in the container by the Out-reach Collection Box in the back of Church. Monetary donations are also appreciated for this worthwhile chari-ty. Founder Jo Wynn has helped homeless teens, inmates making transition back to the community, grandparents raising their grandchildren and families that are be-ing reunified.

The Outreach Center would like to take a moment and thank the Human Concerns Committee and private donors whom helps us in the collection of school supplies
this school year. With everyone's hard work we were able to provide for 20 families with 61 students !
We would not have been able to succeed in our annual school supplies distribution with out all the help that was given.

Pink!Ribbon!Campaign...Don't!be! afraid!of! tomo-rrow! for!God! is! already! there#!May!you!wonder!WHY?..why!do!we!continue!to!do!it!again?!The!answer!is!because!so!many!peo-ple!continue!to!suffer!from!cancer,!die!from!cancer!or!know!and!love!someone!who!has!cancer#!People!who!we!dearly!love!in!our!own! parish! family! struggle! with! cancer#! salem"s! restoration!presented! in! today"s! first! reading.! ! It! is!what!we!all!long!for:!better!times!to!follow!troubles,!a!cure!for!what!ails!us!and!our!afflicted!society.!Isaiah!tells!that!the!God!who!protected!a!people!following!their!exodus!would!be!with!them!during!their!transformation!into!a!new!nation!---!they!would!no!longer!be!aliens!in!a!hostile!territory.!!He!would! heal! their! woes,! but! they! had! a! role! to! play! also.!They!had!to!be!faithful!to!their!covenant!with!him.!Jesus,! in! today"s! gospel,! is! outside! his! familiar! territory.!Known! for! traveling! in!a! land!where! the!people!believe! in!one!God,!he!is!now! in!Tyre,!known!for! its! idolatry.! !A!deaf!man!of!this!area!is!brought!to!him!in!search!of!healing.!The!deaf!man!cannot!hear,!nor! can!he!speak:! this!man!has!no!access!to!the!Word!of!God,!nor!can!he!speak!to!proclaim!it,!but! apparently! is! aware! of! the! miracles! of! Jesus.! !On! his!own!he!does! not! dare! come! to! Jesus:! others! urge!him! to!such!an!encounter,! they! �bring!him�! to! Jesus,!and! request!healing! from! Jesus.! Jesús,! en! el! evangelio!de! hoy,! está! fuera!de! su! territorio!familiar.!Conocido!por!viajar!en!una!tierra!donde!la!gente!cree!en!un!solo!Dios,!ahora!está!en!Tiro,!conocido!por!su!idolatría.!Un!hombre!sordo!de!esta!área!es!llevado!a!él!en!busca!de!curación.!El!sordo!no!puede!oír,!ni!puede!hablar:!este! hombre! no! tiene! acceso! a! la! Palabra! de! Dios,! ni!!!!puede!hablar!para!proclamarla,!pero!aparentemente!está!al!tanto!de!los!milagros!de!Jesús.!Por!su!propia!cuenta,!no!se! atreve! a! acercarse! a! Jesús:! otros! lo! instan! a! tal!!!!!!!!!!encuentro,!lo!%traen%!a!Jesús!y!le!piden!que!lo!cure.!Jesús!quita! la! aflicción! de! los! oídos! del! hombre! y! restaura! su!habla.!
La! historia! me! hace! reflexionar! sobre! aquellos! aldeanos!que!se!convirtieron!en! instrumentos!para!la! liberación!de!Dios!de!una!persona!con!problemas.!Seguramente!no!es-toy! solo! recordando! momentos! de! sensación! fuera! de!lugar,!entre!personas!más!ricas!o!mejor!educadas!que!yo,!o!porque!no!tuvimos!tanto!éxito!como!nuestros!hermanos!o!hermanas,!o!estábamos!en!un!país!extraño!donde!nadie!entendía! lo!que!dijo,!o!nos!hicieron!sentir!no!aptos!por-que! no! compartimos! las! tradiciones! de! nuestro! nuevo!país,!o!no!bienvenidos!debido!a!una!discapacidad.!
Señor,! te! damos! gracias! por! enviar! a! alguien! en! esos!!!!momentos,! alguien! como! los! aldeanos! que! trajeron! al!hombre!sordo!a!Jesús,!quizás!uno!de!nuestros!padres,!un!tío!o!un!abuelo,!tal!vez!un!maestro!o!líder!de! la!comuni-dad,!tal!vez!un!buen!amigo!que!entiende!lo!que!estamos!pasando.!Nos!ayudan!a!sentir!su!presencia!y!su!curación,!a!menudo!simplemente!al!escucharnos!y!nuestra!historia!de!dolor.!
