INDOOR BOWLS REPORT

For many the Indoor Bowls that are played on

Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons are a social

highlight of the week, where interesting subjects

can be discussed and ongoing situations can be

brought up to date. In other words the Indoor

bowls team are a family that are sharing some

time together playing the game we all enjoy, but

with a certain amount of competition.

The next event on the Silverdale Indoor bowls

calendar is the Birthday event on September the

18th, celebrating the 21th year since the Indoor

bowls club began.

The birthday event will be a fun day with three

unusual games and prizes for the team that has the

most wins, runner up and the team that has the

least amount of wins.

There is also a prize for the person that can guess

the amount of money in our money pig.

The money pig is used as a small penalty (10

cents) for knocking the target white ball off the

Mat.

As well there will be plates of food nibbles before

the games to get everyone in the mood.

OUTDOOR BOWLS REPORT

August presented us with some trying weather.

However, brighter days are ahead.

Our opening day is 13th September and a

reminder that subs, $25.00 per member, are now

due.

Competition bowls are every Tuesday. Roll ups

are Wednesday and Saturday 12.30pm—2.30pm.

Roll ups are the social, informal bowling days.

RSA members who feel like trying the game of

bowls are warmly invited to join us for a friendly

afternoon. Spare bowls are available for your use.

Our RSA is a wonderful facility, but, without

members support, progress is not possible.

KEV REPORT

Some 30 members attended our August meeting and

among the issues discussed it was decided to purchase

a book outlining the history of the Korean War and

donate to the RSA Museum.

Those of us in attendance were able to congratulate

Past President Harry Pratt celebrate his 90th birthday.

We all stood and sang the appropriate tribute.

Our guest speaker was no other than our Welfare Offi-

cer Janet Fitzgerald who spoke of her life experiences

both as a child and a young adult. Janet stated she still

has all her school reports with each report featuring

the comment “Janet likes to help others”. Well that’s

what she does so admirably for the KEV vets and

doubtlessly for all RSA members requiring her

specialist knowledge and assistance. We sincerely

thank you Janet for all that you do for us.

From a KEV viewpoint we must not overlook the

magnificent luncheon on Sunday 17th August ar-

ranged for the WW2 vets their wives and vets of other

conflicts. Mark Harris did a great job in putting it

altogether with great support from RSA management

and staff. The catering was superb. The colour party

of Air Force Cadets, the table service provided by the

Women’s Section, the 15 waitresses provided by

Whangaparaoa College all made for a most

memorable occasion. The RSA National President

General Don McIvor mentioned in his address the

high standing of the Silverdale RSA and it was truly

evidenced by this celebration.

WOMEN’S SECTION

Hello Ladies, once again I must apologize for not doing a

report for the August newsletter.

In July we had 73 Ladies at our Ladies day.

Unfortunately our entertainer was ill on the day, but to our

good fortune Jocelyn Stubbing stepped in for us and did a

wonderful job of entertaining us.

In August we also had 73 Ladies attend our Ladies day, and

we gave out free meal vouchers to any lady that bought

3x$2 raffle tickets. I hope you all enjoyed your lunch. Our

entertainment was the Westpac rescue helicopter, it was a

wonderful talk and I think we got a lot out of it.

September entertainment in Flight centre who will talk to

us about different travel options.

If any of the ladies have some ideas for a day trip or of dif-

ferent entertainment your input would be appreciated.

Please let me know, my phone no 424 1654

Hope to see you all in September.

Kay

RUBY’S DANCING As promised, brand new Saturday occasional lunch dates

chance to catch up with your line dance and non line

dancer friends.

Next dance is on 20th September. If it proves popular

further dates will be announced. The cost is $5 for line

dancers and free for invited non line dancer friends.

You can send in requests to Ruby at

[email protected] beforehand to enable her to

prepare a playlist for continuous play for some of the time.

This is a great opportunity for a convivial get together for

all line dancers and their guests to enjoy some free time,

and puts the social back into social.

Also Ruby will be back with a 4 hour Roaring 20’s themed

social at the RSA on Sunday 19th October, so plenty to
